1) One is a prime. To say you don't build nothing new from it is a delusion. What is 2? Answer: it is the symbol for 1+1. When we say "2" what we actually mean is "2 times one". One is the primes' prime.
2) The point at about 0:34:35 with the increasing sides of dices raised my brow. As the sides go to infinity the dice becomes a sphere. One wonders, then, if there is a formula for primes that has along e, π as well. That would be staggering!
Sorry but one is not a prime. By the standard definition one might be tempted to define 1 as such, but if we were to do so then this throws a cog in a lot of number theory. For example, prime factorization is no longer unique since 1 doesn't do anything. i.e., 2 = 1*2 = 1^2*2
Secondly, the riemann zeta function is closely related to the primes. There are numerous formulas about the zeta function which use both π and e. These are truly remarkable results in number theory.
but starting @ 0:51:32 it is WELL WORTH IT to listen -- the connection between the harmonics for primes, and the atomic structure of certain molecules! wow!
Deficient opinion? OK -- remove the word "fascist" - I agree, that is debatable, but the rest are facts - not really a matter of opinion.
You may or may not like Israel's behaviour, but those are the facts.
You disagree? Where are you getting your news from?
And yes, the USA pays for their atrocities withh over $3billion of military aid (they have just increased funding) while it either turns a blind eye or gives them permission to commit their crimes.
@Nilguiri Commit their crimes? by this i suppose you're referring to defence. Every country is entitled to defend their land, but apparently not Israel. Palestine have been like flies, try and brush them away but they keep pestering. Clearly you're perceptions of Israel have been heavily influenced and tainted by the media.
You are talking out if your ass. You obviously have no clue of what is happening... Or worse, you know what is happening and you approve.
And if I had been influenced by the media (especially US media), it would have been by Israeli propaganda and lies... which you obviously believe as facts.
I think you are talking at the wrong forum: the political/insulting/namecalling one is down the corridor. This one is about knowledge, which has neither country nor reasons for shame.
Oh, and I mean NO country, i.e. Israel, Palestine, USA, Iceland, Micronesia, Bhutan... NO country.

excellent lecture! And although I hate to be a pedant, the odds of his London telephone number being a prime is not 1 in 15, it's something like 1 in 18. because you shouldn't use numbers smaller than 10 million to calculate the odds. and the odds for a number between 10 million and 100 million to be prime is roughly 1 in 18.
fantastic presentation - thanks for sharing

@MrAlexGTV Are you saying that if pi somehow showed up in a formula that relates to the locations of primes in the number line...
That would be amazing..?
Did I understand you correctly?

Prime Numbers in the Quran point to 31 events to hit Earth Jan-Nov 2012 each lasting 4 days and sweeping the Globe 4 times along 31 latitudes.
Most places of worship will become safe havens so we may finally realize that we all worship the same ONE GOD regardless of religious flavor.

Excellent lecture. Really interesting.
But De Sautoy; Have you no shame?
It is a disappointing that he did it in the fascist, racist, warmongering, baby-killing, apardheid state of Israel.
These disgusting people should be boycotted. Cut them off. They don't deserve this. They certainly wouldn't let Palestinians attend.
