amazing harmony between this couple,a manifestation of pianistic telepathy indeed.but still my favourite interpretation is the one came from the turkish sister sohir and goher pekenel.
So glad to hear someone else who remembers Vronsky & Babin. They were an incredible pair, in the tradition of the Lhevinne's, and I still hear both duos as models for the works they recorded. This is a wonderful performance of the enchanting Rachmaninoff Suite. Thanks for posting!
The greatest recording of this Suite is by Vitya Vronky and Victor Babin on an old RCA LP. They were married and breathed, sang and played like a dream!
Rachmaninoff and Horowitz used to join together in seeing how many notes they could improvise into one of Rach's pieces. In this case Rachmaninoff himself devised a piece with a great number of notes - but, of course, it took two people to play it. One wonders whether one phenomenal pianist could do it!!
A favourite piece of mine for many years, and always a pleasure to hear, especially when played as well as this. Good tempo - most duos let this music drag painfully. As for using page turners, there's nothing worse than seeing pianists trying to turn their own pages and struggling to get them turned with one hand. And who cares whether pianists play by memory or not anyway? I sometimes use a page turner even in solo recitals.
Gorgeous, i love this movement!! Great ensemble too :)

Thank you for this lovely rendition. I also have the old Vronsky and Babin LP, and agree that their version is the gold standard.

Yeah, a teacher of mine played it to us, but I can't find the record anywhere. Do you know what company produced it? Thanx!

Page turners are very common at duo recitals.
