@Bumper776 Reenacting is a very secular thing. Many people are scared to recruit off the internet. It's a very "I know a guy who knows a guy" business. Keep trying a few different units. Expanding your knowledge on WWI may be the ticket to get you in! It's always good to see reenacting grow and flourish, no matter the period or theatre!
Oh I would also like to conclusively say that the K98 WAS used in the First World War. The K98a was a Cavalry and Artillery carbine, it was the K98k used in WWII. However in the First World War, most infantrymen used the G98
I was at this re enactment on the German side. It was my first and I am told rates among the better events anyone can remember. If your thinking about getting into this do it!
They had a carbine version in ww1 but it was identical to the G98 in length. It is not the same as the Mauser Karbiner 98 Kurz (k98), so no K98s in ww1.
I'm a Civil War reenactor, and whenever I'm doing the Battle of Franklin reenactment, I feel like a WW1 soldier since I'm fighting in the trenches! ;D
Are you talking about the music in this because its not God save the Tsar....Theres the first part of the 1812 overture then the rest is from Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor I cant quite recall the part of the Mass its from right off hand.
i love what the GWA does - it's a tribute to the men who served and a real link to the past that really brings the war to life and passes the memory on ---- only comments on realism is they don't dig the trenches deep enough - no one spent that much time with half their bodies out of the trench -
Yes. We are not shoting any projectiles from our mussels. It is just the gun powder igniting and creating the sensation of a gunshot. We NEVER aim at a person, always towards and up. This way we dont burn them. If a mortar, grenade lands near you and you cannot move, just cover your face is the best advice.
I've never been burned by one, But I have had the Germans ingenious sling shot land a grenade in my lap.. I dont know what they wre using but this fuse was burning and had an odd trajectory (at night).. regardless that was interesting...
This is true, they did away with the.. I dont know its official name, but the Spike Helmet towards the later half of the war.. They then used the "box" helmet and continued to during WWII.. =)
not really. the germans did not really rely so much on gas in ww2 except for strongholds in stalingrad and such, and germans did not have the big powerful luftwaffe in ww1 as they did in ww2 and their tanks in ww2 were tiger tanks being better than their ww1 tanks from 1918.
Wrong, the Pickelhaube was discontinued around 1916, when they adopted the Stahlhelm, which in its modified form served in WWII. (British 1st World War re-enactor here :) )
@Qorlan I saw on all quiet on the western front that they were still wearing the Pickelhaube was still being used by some of the soldiers, but i have to say i am fasinated by WW1, and the fact that millions of men lost their lived over a few hectors of mud was irresponsible, and stupid.
This is held twice a year in November and April in Newville, PA. I believe the age requirement is 18. You can find more info about joining a unit and attending the reenactment at the website listed at the end of the film. I highly recommend it. It's a fantastic experience you won't find anywhere else. If you need more help contacting a unit I can put you in touch with the right people, let me know.
Very good! Very realistic too! I like the older guys or the little...overweight guys, 'cause they add a little more o' personality to the characters and demonstrates that during the Great War Germany recruited anyone
Oh, I wish I did. We shot on film, so anything we would have shot wouldn't have come out - not enough light. I agree with you, though; it was incredible.
We need a WW1 Band of Brothers -sort of thing! I've been writing scripts for the past
10 years now trying to find a producer, but f...k it's so hard to break into the
industry, they've got their contacts and stuff, closed doors all around; do you film
for yourself alone or for other productions as well? What do you charge? I'd like to shoot
a short film over here in Ypres, but probably too costly. But I don't like shooting in
Poland or Czech either, not the same..
Vandorianna 4 months ago
This looks so good! Hauting music in the beginning (russian, however, it fits the mood)
I've only been to one re-enactment (if you can even call it that) over here in Europe,
near the place I live, you might have heard of it, Ypres (;)) . It's in Zonnebeke,
held every year mid June, but can't compare to what you're doing over in the States;
Fly-overs like that, firing rounds etc, probably would be unheard of.
WW1 is the most haunting event in history. At least to me it is.
Vandorianna 4 months ago
I have contacted several of the German units in an attempt to join but I never get a reply. Must be a pretty exclusive group.

Just a few more uniform peices and I could probably do this, already have the Stahlhelm (1916) and a K98.

cant use a K98, thats ww2, in ww1 they were outfitted with Gewehr 98s ( G98)
Rammstein4ever 3 years ago
Really? Crap. Hmm, where was the K98 used then, in WWI, because it was made as a carbine version of the Gewehr at the same time.
JonnyLightning 3 years ago
they began using the K98 in 1935
They had a carbine version in ww1 but it was identical to the G98 in length. It is not the same as the Mauser Karbiner 98 Kurz (k98), so no K98s in ww1.

I don't know... Look at 1:27, it looks like he's chambering another round. Blanks perhaps?
Either way, it looks really well done.
TheCanadianSoldier 4 years ago
I was there that event.. American Infantry. I was operating a trench mortar.
They are using Blanks, most likely grenade launcher rounds. They are louder and can literally shake the ground around you.
The one German towards the end of the video did an extreme 'no,no!' He aimed his rifle at the allied soldier. He could have powder burned him.
And if you are wondering I am 19..
LoserNumber34 4 years ago
Yeah, people think blank rounds are harmless.
They can still do some damage! lol.
