  • We need a WW1 Band of Brothers -sort of thing! I've been writing scripts for the past

10 years now trying to find a producer, but f...k it's so hard to break into the

industry, they've got their contacts and stuff, closed doors all around; do you film

for yourself alone or for other productions as well? What do you charge? I'd like to shoot

a short film over here in Ypres, but probably too costly. But I don't like shooting in

Poland or Czech either, not the same..

  • This looks so good! Hauting music in the beginning (russian, however, it fits the mood)

I've only been to one re-enactment (if you can even call it that) over here in Europe,

near the place I live, you might have heard of it, Ypres (;)) . It's in Zonnebeke,

    held every year mid June, but can't compare to what you're doing over in the States;

Fly-overs like that, firing rounds etc, probably would be unheard of.

WW1 is the most haunting event in history. At least to me it is.

  • I have contacted several of the German units in an attempt to join but I never get a reply. Must be a pretty exclusive group.

  • @Bumper776 Reenacting is a very secular thing. Many people are scared to recruit off the internet. It's a very "I know a guy who knows a guy" business. Keep trying a few different units. Expanding your knowledge on WWI may be the ticket to get you in! It's always good to see reenacting grow and flourish, no matter the period or theatre!

  • @mathias2992 Wow, I'm tired. Not secular, seclusive.

  • This is like Saturday cartoons for me.

  • Nice. My great-grandpa, fought with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in the Great War.

  • Oh I would also like to conclusively say that the K98 WAS used in the First World War. The K98a was a Cavalry and Artillery carbine, it was the K98k used in WWII. However in the First World War, most infantrymen used the G98

  • what is the music here?

  • wierd, im listing to pipes of peace while watching ww1 reenactment vids..

  • Super..macht ihr sowas auch in Deutschland??

  • whats the song between 1:30-1:59 ? please answer

  • bet it fun to do this lol

  • does anyone else notice the large amount of obese reenactors?

now i definitely saw several younger-looking, skinny guys, but there were all these heavy-set mustachioed guys.

  • they reenact 1917

by that point in the war all sides would be useing whoever they could get there hands on to help

the old the young and yes the fat

  • you guys so totally kick ass over us dark-ages folks.

  • I was at this re enactment on the German side. It was my first and I am told rates among the better events anyone can remember. If your thinking about getting into this do it!

  • How can you apply to be in an reenactment i'd love to do it?

  • What unit? I'm probably gonna join the 8th kurassier.

  • I am an SS reenactor, and it costs a good deal of money, about how much does it cost for a German WWI impression?

  • Just a few more uniform peices and I could probably do this, already have the Stahlhelm (1916) and a K98.

  • cant use a K98, thats ww2, in ww1 they were outfitted with Gewehr 98s ( G98)

  • Really? Crap. Hmm, where was the K98 used then, in WWI, because it was made as a carbine version of the Gewehr at the same time.

  • they began using the K98 in 1935

They had a carbine version in ww1 but it was identical to the G98 in length. It is not the same as the Mauser Karbiner 98 Kurz (k98), so no K98s in ww1.

  • Ah, I see.

    Danke fuer die Information.

  • bitte bitte mein Herr.

your K98 would be perfect for the re-enacting that i do, though

    5,/SS Aufklarungs Abteilung - 12 "HJ" - wwII

  • gewehr 98, k98 is world war 2......... and try over 1000$ for basic kit. if you do it right

  • K98 was WW1 as well, but only used by calvary

  • @dchristy56 and stormtroopers

  • some of my civil war reenactor buddies do this and they say its alot funner ...i should try it. :)

  • colour much? lol!

  • Blimey, some of those tunics are under a bit of strain around the middle.

  • I see some of the IR92 members in this. That's pretty cool, that's my Regiment that I just joined. Thanks! Very well done video

    Jan

  • world war 1 was much worse and darker then world war 2

  • HAHAHA! Just as the music built to a climax an icecream van drove past my house playing it's tinbox music!! LOLOLOL

  • I'm a Civil War reenactor, and whenever I'm doing the Battle of Franklin reenactment, I feel like a WW1 soldier since I'm fighting in the trenches! ;D

  • Which battle of Franklin? First or second?

Sorry, Aussie speaking... don't know too much about it. :P

  • God save the Tsar.

    it's also in Tjaikovskys "1812"

  • Are you talking about the music in this because its not God save the Tsar....Theres the first part of the 1812 overture then the rest is from Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor I cant quite recall the part of the Mass its from right off hand.

  • Damn, put a camera on that plane to get some awesome shots! Still a really good video

  • I would have dressed up as my great Grand father in his Austro-Hungarian uniform. He was a Sgt as well

  • i love what the GWA does - it's a tribute to the men who served and a real link to the past that really brings the war to life and passes the memory on ---- only comments on realism is they don't dig the trenches deep enough - no one spent that much time with half their bodies out of the trench -

  • wow , very good , especialy with the airplane

  • The food must bee good in WWI

  • The food must bee good in WWI

  • The food mus bee good in WWI

  • blanks can hurt/maim possibly kill so yes they hurt more than paintballs

  • Do blanks hurt as much as Paintballs? Anyway, what hapens if you got shot in the head? O_O...

  • Yes. We are not shoting any projectiles from our mussels. It is just the gun powder igniting and creating the sensation of a gunshot. We NEVER aim at a person, always towards and up. This way we dont burn them. If a mortar, grenade lands near you and you cannot move, just cover your face is the best advice.

  • you are using airsoft guns?

  • I don't know... Look at 1:27, it looks like he's chambering another round. Blanks perhaps?

Either way, it looks really well done.

  • I was there that event.. American Infantry. I was operating a trench mortar.

They are using Blanks, most likely grenade launcher rounds. They are louder and can literally shake the ground around you.

The one German towards the end of the video did an extreme 'no,no!' He aimed his rifle at the allied soldier. He could have powder burned him.

And if you are wondering I am 19..

  • Yeah, people think blank rounds are harmless.

They can still do some damage! lol.

  • They do burn.

  • I've never been burned by one, But I have had the Germans ingenious sling shot land a grenade in my lap.. I dont know what they wre using but this fuse was burning and had an odd trajectory (at night).. regardless that was interesting...

  • this was my second event i froze my ass off and got killed like five times. awesome experience. 63rd kuk rox my sox!

  • and to think only 20 years later these guys would be shooting at each other

  • arent they already shooting at each other?

  • we're allies now.. Germany designs weapons for the US.

  • hey on 00:20 there me on there i,m the nazi one

  • there was no nazis in WW1

  • Those weren't nazis, the German Army pretty much used the same design from World War 1 in World War 2

  • This is true, they did away with the.. I dont know its official name, but the Spike Helmet towards the later half of the war.. They then used the "box" helmet and continued to during WWII.. =)

  • Pickelhauben

  • not really. the germans did not really rely so much on gas in ww2 except for strongholds in stalingrad and such, and germans did not have the big powerful luftwaffe in ww1 as they did in ww2 and their tanks in ww2 were tiger tanks being better than their ww1 tanks from 1918.

  • Wrong, the Pickelhaube was discontinued around 1916, when they adopted the Stahlhelm, which in its modified form served in WWII. (British 1st World War re-enactor here :) )

  • Id love to do stuff like this but i have no idea on how to get started.

  • @Qorlan I saw on all quiet on the western front that they were still wearing the Pickelhaube was still being used by some of the soldiers, but i have to say i am fasinated by WW1, and the fact that millions of men lost their lived over a few hectors of mud was irresponsible, and stupid.

  • Hey why am i getting booed? I'm just talking about the uniform, not the helmet and yes, i already know that they stopped using spiked helmets in WW2

  • Thanks for the information. I emailed a few regiments from SWA's website and I'm hoping to be able t ogo out and do the event in November.

  • Where is this held?

    I'd be interested in going

Is there an age requirement for actually reenacting?

  • This is held twice a year in November and April in Newville, PA. I believe the age requirement is 18. You can find more info about joining a unit and attending the reenactment at the website listed at the end of the film. I highly recommend it. It's a fantastic experience you won't find anywhere else. If you need more help contacting a unit I can put you in touch with the right people, let me know.

  • Those starving Germans sure do look well-fed for 1918.

  • danzig387

Nah... it suits the Germans good.

  • Far less chubby reenactors than most, VERY well done!

  • Nice! Id like to know what song is this?

  • The song in the beginning is the 1812 Overture with a snare track laid over it. The rest is from Mozart's Requiem in D minor.

  • I like your video clip and have rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some pre WW1 battleships.

  • Very good! Very realistic too! I like the older guys or the little...overweight guys, 'cause they add a little more o' personality to the characters and demonstrates that during the Great War Germany recruited anyone

  • Awsome video !! very realistic, Thank you for sharing.

  • cool video, did you get any good shots of the action Saturday night? That Jerry raid on the French lines was terrifying...

  • Oh, I wish I did. We shot on film, so anything we would have shot wouldn't have come out - not enough light. I agree with you, though; it was incredible.
