Like the video, Could you help me out by telling me, what did you use to transfer to pc? a firewire or usb.. and did you transfer to a mac or windows xp? .. I have just bought an xl1s and am having nightmares, coz my laptop dont have a firewire port. So I triede using a usb to firewire lead (my lappy says, "No device drivers found for the device) grrr, I phone canon and am told that windows Vista is not compatible and I defo need to transfer via firewire. Any tips would be very appreciated
@pianoalien I actually used a Mac to edit the footage together and imported with firewire to Final Cut. Seems like you're having trouble importing. I would skip all that mess, borrow a buddies Mac and use it to import footage using a program like iMovie which most Macs have these days. Transfer all the movie files that you created to your PC using an external hard drive and edit from there. Good luck!
@AvantgardeFilm Thanks for the reply, I actually solved the problem by using a dazzle to transfer footage to my Sony Vegas pro 9 editing suit. The results are fantastic, so after two weeks of stress, I've finally nailed it, I'm delighted, I can now begin shooting a film trailor for my recently published book, Can't wait :) Thanks again and be lucky..
Using a camera with a 24p setting is good but will only get you so far I would reccomend for cameras such as the xl2 to set the shutter speed to 1/48 and the iris setting to 2.4 then in editing softwares such as premiere pro toy with the contrast a bit. Maybe go into photoshop cs5 64bit and add a slight grain, blur and a vignette. And top it all of with a couple of effects from after effects. Then you can buy a 35mm convertor such as the letus35 but they are expensive.
Excellent job. I have also the XL1 and Final Cut Pro Express, and I wonder how you did that.. Can you tell me what filters did you used, and I wonder if it's possible to transfer a video like this to DVD (maybe 1 hour or more, and get good quality for a big HD T.V. Thanks man.
@lorddinaire I wish I remember what I used. It's been so long. I know I used a slight vignette, desaturated the color, bumped up contrast, and de-interlaced the video. I know I did some other stuff, but I don't remember. You should be able to transfer video like this to DVD, but the quality might be sub-par on an HDTV.
Hi. Your videos are awesome. I'm working with my Canon XL1 in parties, and editing in my Imac with FCP HD express. Usually I finish projects in 100 minutes length with 20 to 25 GB each. Good to make clear that FCP Express HD, do not includes Compressor. The thing is : If someone knows the proper settings in XL1 and FCP EXPRESS Pro HD to export MiniDV tapes and burn it in IDVD or BLUE RAY with Crystal clear results (or look alike) in a 52 inch plasma HD 1080, I will be very happy to read it.
@ayinde30 Miscreant. It was 3/5. The people who wanted to end slavery (Abolitionists) made it that way so slave holders couldn't use their slaves to increase their power in Congress. Originally, the Abolitionists didn't want them counted at all. Wrap that around your dumb liberal head.

@MowenStudios I agree. The XL1 only shoots 60i. I don't shoot with it anymore. I shoot with an HDSLR these days.

@AvantgardeFilm True but I must say that was some astounding footage for what you were working with. Keep it up!

The song that is playing - what movie is that from?
sfrappier 2 years ago
n/m - it's "Structure and Disipline" from American Beauty. A very powerful and simple song.

I think we need to do some GL2 35mm look on the payoff and the post it with nothing but his creepy growl in the back groud "wahhhhhhhhhhh"
