  • Ha.... It was hot? I run in southern Texas. I hate running in anything below 80 degrees.

  • I love reading these comments by people arguing with each other about my video, being insulted by virtual strangers and laughing at the enormous number of typos. Thanks for the entertainment, folks!

  • Chicago is worthless. Corrupt, inept, dysfunctional, crime-ridden, filthy, dirty and full of stupid kids that can't learn, corrupt politicians, and shitbag "citizens". Drop a nuke on it, stick a fork in it, Chicago is the next Detroit. GOOD JOB, SHITBAGS!

  • this is fuck up you are dealing with human beings!

  • stupid sport

  • fuck you

  • It was about as hot and humid in Minneapolis/St. Paul, but there we had plenty of water, as well as people spraying us with water and offering orange peels as we ran by their homes, and the many trees that shaded us from the sun. Glad I picked Minny over Chicago.

  • Apparently the majority of Americans would rather run the CHI Mar. than a Minn. Marathon. A prestigious marathon for prestigious avid runners.

    CHICAGO '08 !!!

  • I'm going to try again this October. I want redemption!

  • two of my friends ran in this marathon....we are from florida.....that heat was nothing to them......the problem they said was that the water/gatorade situation was pathetic.....people were on cell phones calling there families, telling them to meet them at a specific mile marker with liquids.....that's pathetic for a big race like this

  • Agreed!! I am from the UK and we all pay alot of money to be in these races and expect at least water!

  • I ran and walked this marathon. The news media latched on to these so called "desperate stories" and also using terms like fiasco and disaster when none existed.

They act like we will out there in the middle of nowhere when in fact a convenience store, fast food joint or grocery store were on around almost every turn. We are not babies here. C'mon fellow runners you take more precautions on a first date then you did for running 26.2 miles in 80+ degree temps.

  • so 5 people ran out of water and the rest were fine?

Sure the runners could have gone into the shops but they paid to get water and the authorities knew what the temperatures would be...

  • Man, even ex-FEMA head Ron Brown is saying, "come on, how could you guys not prepare better knowing full well the extreme weather condition you had???"

  • Stopped the race? Imagine that? A touch of creeping SANITY appears in our land ? What next ? Promote kindness or peace ?

Living modestly ? Why did they not allow the runners to simply die at their own convenience and design ? Where is the spirit of America ?

  • our prayers go out to the family of the runner that sadly passed away. this was to be my hubby's first marathon (at the age of 51!) i secretly planned to pace him in at mile 20 (archer-chinatown) marker and bought my own bib and picked up my packet with his at the expo last friday....his 15K Pace 12:41, Half Pace 13:16, TIME Chip Time: Clock: Pace: 13:45. maybe next year?

  • With the heat index what it was, many runners had to make a judgement call about whether or not to participate. I'm a seasoned runner used to hot weather. Had the aid stations been fully supplied, I would have had less trouble in the race. What's being reported is accurate. There simply was not enough water or Gatoraid. There is no controversey about it. The heat was an anomely but the lack of hydration was what it was. Hopefully, the Chicago Marathon directors will learn from this.

  • Oh please, this video is dramatic and just causes controversy. IT was HOT! people need to take personal responsibility for their behavior. If it's too hot, don't run. Everyone knew it was going to be HOT. People and the media are always finding someone to blame.... the weather was unfortunate and out of the ordinary. Yeah ! Chris for your 3 hr 24 min time.

  • @jbrd28 I disagree. The runners pay for water stops and medical booths in their entrance fee so that they can focus on the job at hand - running. This isn't a practice run where you stock water on the course for yourself and carry tons with you. It's an organized event the organizers failed. I ran the Chicago Marathon this year - it was also in the Mid 80's and the experience was good - they were prepared.

  • dont these people check the weather report before leaving the house? if i'm running in a marathon and they say 90 degrees and humid, i'm staying the fuck home!!!

  • it was crazy!
