  • and why do you have alredy hakama?

  • @dzusik12 if you don't mind just going to "view all comments", you'll see the question posed several times, and my corresponding response. feel free to ask more if you need further clarification.

  • so together just 2,5 years of traininng ? and you are traininng with weapons also?

  • how many years have you trained before this exam?

  • @dzusik12 hmmm... about 2 and a half years?

  • Now try that with someone not trained in the art of making hakama look pretty, no offence.

  • @theblacksashman no offence taken, but what is your actual question or comment?

  • @lordosaya The comment is what I just said. If you want to be philosophical, then what New Age guru Ueshiba called 'takemusu' IP, Bruce Lee's 'formlessness' within 'form', the Zen 'space' within the cup is a valid concept in MA. Of course Aikido is about rules, the flowery cup, the floating hakama, and is the archetypal 'magician' (in the bad sense) using 'misdirection' and plain lies in its hand. Another words it is a rigid system of compliant New Agery, sorry to break it to you.

  • @theblacksashman ah, that's much better. thanks for elaborating.

  • Looks great & real smooth. Your dojo's style appears to be very formal with little room for variances. Do you guys get more aggressive and street-fighterish when you advance in rank? Add an element of realistic attacks? i.e. If you don't get off line and/or deflect properly your nose is broke?

  • @insaneduane i've moved interstate and so i'm no longer training there. but to answer your question, no, they don't tend to "get more aggressive and street-fighterish". however, the attacks are expected to get 'heavier' and faster, with more intent as one advances; so yes, good tai-sabaki is required.

  • the music is a little over the top for an art rooted in being non aggressive and humble wouldn't u say?

  • @Taud =) yes, i was a little concerned about the music too, but due to youtube's music copyright policy, i've only had a very small collection of music to choose from, and this was the best fit in terms of timing and 'feel' at that time. if you have some suggested tracks (copyright-free) for my future videos, i'd be more than happy to hear them.

  • @lordosaya oh i didnt realize you didnt have anything to mix of your own, that sucks about the copyright

  • @Taud ;) no worries mate. we do with what we have.

  • very good flow, but a few intense.

    good job

  • wow lordosaya you are very powerful with words, and your technique is great. I guess youve found the "aiki" spirit. Can I give you one advice on your sankyo? Try putting ukes hand against your body, for example if its right hand then put it on your right shoulder. I feel the closer you are connected to uke, the more effective the waza! cheers

  • Sankyo ura variation

  • @696906 thank you for you the suggested variation. i'll give a go. but no, i don't think i've found the aiki spirit yet. i'd like to think that i'm on the path, but it's still a very very long journey ahead. =)

  • Why the hell are you wearing hakama when you are only 4th kyu. I trained aikido for 5 years to reach 1st kyu and then only could you wear hakama. Our gadings took at least 45 mins and it was extremely intense. Man i would'nt join your club its soft. Im now a sandan and it took me 8 years of hard training and a lot of injuries for that. Now i know my club has massive standards.

  • assuming you are who you claim to be, you sound amongst the most arrogant and ignorant aikidoka i've encountered here on youtube. it is disappointing that your club's massive standards do not include humility and respect.

  • Yeah I must admit I did go too far so I do apologise. My club and I are so passionate about Aikido we have links back to the Hombu and Tenshin dojo. Its always been instilled in us that you should earn the right to wear Hakama and represent the yudansha grade. When you fight to earn Hakama and you do recieve them its the greatest feeling you get in Aikido. So as your club give Hakama away all you can work hard for is your Shodan, Believe me fighting for the Hakama is Aikido's toughest battle.

  • it is easy for a person to make a mistake. it is much harder to acknowledge that mistake and make amends. thank you for apology and i appreciate that you are really passionate and that we all have different emphases and focuses in our aikido. i see where you're coming from but IMHO, working for the hakama is not aikido's toughest battle - i believe overcoming one's ego and desire to win is. to each his or her own i guess. ;)

  • @marknic79 I do not believe that the toughest battle in Aikido is 'fighting' for your Hakama. There should be no fighting for it. O-senei said in The Art Of Peace : "As soon as you concern yourself with the "good" and "bad" of your fellows, you create an opening in your heart for maliciousness to enter. Testing, competing with, and criticizing others weaken and defeat you." The most difficult aspect of Aikido is maintaining yourself within it's philosophical beliefs.

  • lmao! you just did aikido with words and made him fall and take his school with him. it doesn't matter what martial art it is someone's school and style is better and is happy to let you know it.

  • are injuries the thing u want to have to see that ure Training is correct? Maybe i'm to new at aikido but.... a good training will avoid injuries right?

Ahh and see the gokyu exam of saya their i postet a comment to the thing With the hakama.

And for me i think it will not be the greatest feeling to wear one after reached the nikyu. the greatest Feeling in aikido is every Training Day after i trained Aikido and on my Way home im feeling confident and calm with a clear mind.

  • Whats the name of the song at the end? Its so familier.

By the way, good video, im thinkin bout taking aikido.

  • Whats the name of the

  • Whatd the name of the song at the end?

By the way great video, im thinkin bout takin aikido

  • Hi, whats the name of that song at the end of the video? Its so familier, its buggin me.

  • Good grading, you have very good posture.

  • well, that's at least one thing i've got less to worry about it. now if i can just get the other hundred things sorted as well.... ;)

[p.s. hv you seen my last grading mate? i've posted my 2nd kyu grading a few weeks ago]

  • thats mayby useless but do you know where i can find a Aikido (Dojo school i dont know how to call that) in Berlin?

  • i'm not very familiar with aikido dojos in that part of the world, but i'm sure if you google "aikido berlin" or something along those lines, you should be able to find something close by that you could have a look at. cheers.

  • You give your back in randori here. It might just be for your test/in the dojo setting, but I don't think you should give your attackers your back, ever. I know this video was made a while ago, but I'm just saying.

Train hard, train well, and best of luck.

  • My God you graded to 3rd Kyu fast.

You do look very good when doing your technique though :-)

  • for randori, it's more about movement and timing rather than technique. We stay away from ikkyo and shihonage, use a lot more momentum throws, such as iriminage and kokyunage because they don't take up too much time..you don't want to make your 2d or 3d ukes wait around on the mat while you're still disposing of uke #1..anyway, I hope that's not too much, but this is in the spirit of giving out the knowledge I garnered after many hours of mistakes. Good luck , and happy practice !

  • dojomania, thank you for sharing. there's always something for all of us to learn, similar style or otherwise. it's been over a year since i made this video, so i hope i'd have improved since then, but still, it's always good to get comments and feedback. =) cheers mate.

  • Thank you for graciously accepting my comments. Please bear in mind that although I point out "mistakes", I still frequently make them, so I should also the subject of my own criticism. I also neglected to say that you look very graceful on the mat. "Soft technique" is often harder to execute than "hard technique". How much longer until the 2d kyu test? Are you from S'pore?

  • =) if all goes to plan, i'll be doing my 2nd kyu grading in October this year. it was delayed because i had to reacquaint myself with new syllabus and protocols as my home dojo changed affiliation this year. fingers crossed, it'll turn out alright. re: your query, i'm originally from Malaysia but have lived in Australia for several years now.

  • Have you studied under Sugano shihan?

  • ah no, alas, my home dojo is not affiliated with the Australia Aikikai, and from what i've heard, AA is very strict with inter-dojo training. i think a few of my dojo's yudanshas have trained with him previously though... hmm, have you trained with him?

  • No, but I train under Shihan Eddie Hagihara, who was one of O'Sensei's last students to have been annointed with the green tea ceremony( that is a prelude to shodan, performed in private with O'Sensei). Hagihara sensei was then uchi deshi for Tohei sensei, until Tohei's parting with Hombu dojo. He was sent b to NY with Yamada sensei, and taught for a while at NY Aikikai. After Hagihara stopped co-teaching at NY, Sugano came over from Australia, and shared the teaching duties wtih Yamada.

  • on your shomenuchi sankyo irimi@1:09 your left ( the one closest to uke) foot should be the front foot, and should be almost under uke's armpit, learn to take his space to control him, remember "soft" technique doesn't mean loose technique..uke shouldn't be able to escape. In this move, it's actually shomenuchi ikkyo into sankyo, so you have to perform a successful ikkyo first before moving in with the left hand to switch to sankyo..

  • Greetings, nice test. I am only a 2d kyu but would like to offer my lowly suggestions. I realize this is a different aikido style ( we don't get to wear hakama until shodan at USAF) at 0:46 , hanmi handachi shihonage> your uke is too close to your body..technically, he could give you an atemi while you are executing shihonage, usually this is prevented by keeping uke more unbalanced during shihonage by guiding him downwards so that he is only on the front foot.. more to follow..

  • How cool, looks as though youv'e learned alot. Good vid.

  • nice yokomen uchi shiho nage

  • Really dig'n on your style and fluidity of movement. I would like to be considered as graceful someday. You're movements, in my opinion, do not reflex a 3rd Kyu; More like a Shodan. I look forward to your next testing video.

  • thank you for your kind words my friend. it's a long and difficult road, but a very satisfying one. like you, i too look forward to my next grading video as i don't actually get to see my own aikido until i make one of these videos. lol. it'll be a enlightening when i do. ;)

that said, my home dojo has just reaffliated this year, and the grading syllabus, etiquette and venue are going to change, so fingers crossed, i'll still be able to upload the video here.

  • wow man really nice..

  • i just got my 7th kyu today and that some awesome technique and form

  • Well done, i also trained at a small independant dojo in Launceston in the Fuji Ryu style under Paul Scambler and his father 26 years ago at the Police Citizens YC in Newstead , i am returning to training after a very long absence, i hope i progress as well as you have, i am in launceston in May would love to come past for a throw. i have to catch up with my brother for a throw at the Kasumori Judo Club at the Uni as well.

  • hey! that's pretty cool - you're from the old guard then! ;) it'd be fantastic to see you when you come past yea. how long are you gonna be in Hobart for do you reckon? i'll be away for a couple of days in early May, but should be here the rest of the month. hope to see you then! ;)

  • what kind of aikido is this? it seems like a yoshinkan variation. Greetings from Venezuela and congratulations for your 3rd kyu

  • greetings from Australia mate.

up to this grading, my dojo was rooted with a very small, independent traditional aikido federation - called Fuji Ryu Aikido.

as a note though, my dojo has recently affiliated with a larger umbrella group - and the syllabus etc. have all been changed, so i'm delaying my next grading to adjust to it. ;)

    thanks.

  • thank you pal!!! Keep training!!!

  • do you believe this stuff works, tell me please, since you practice aikido

  • Judging from your name, i think your need to go learn karate. Im an aikidoka of 7 years. Aikido teaches to defend and end the fight in the fastest simpliest way. In aikido you dont go looking for a fight.

  • seriously, disregard all these detractors, I haven't read 1/3 of the comments that I've read but I don't need to. My favorite thing about your test is your fudoshin-immovable mind. Great composure, sankyu is still a white belt rank in my school, but the level that you've displayed in this video exceeds what I would consider sankyu. Keep up the good training, hopefully we will meet on the tatami one day!

  • edit: haven't read 1/3 of the comments posted, my bad! ;)

  • jprof, thank you for your encouragement - i actually really do hope to meet with some of the youtube commentors on the mat. there really are some very switched on ppl here... that said, there are many who aren't. LOL. anyways, if you do pop by Tasmania (Australia) anytime soon, pls send me a message! cheers.

  • Shari-waza

  • hi there - what does that mean? i haven't come across the term "shari-waza" before.

  • I'm not sure of the exact translation. But its the practice of being the nage from the kneeling position.

  • oh... i think you meant "suwari-waza"? no worries. close enough ;) cheers.

  • I'm sort of our dojo's poster boy for not getting the Japanese lingo down correctly:p

My daughter calls the technique she learned last week"ski coconut". She's 5.

  • Why don't you just take a dance class?

The cardio would be much better, and you can dance with cute girls instead of other dudes wearing dresses.

Instead you are dancing around with dudes, not learning any practical, tested fighting techniques.

You aren't even learning how to dance well!

  • why the need to be offesnive, disrespectful and arrogant. why even bother watching this clip if you cant stand it, infact why even comment on it when all you are going to do is be the first line of comment i gave?

  • You prolly wanna blow him

  • Another great video. Beautiful, graceful Aikido, practiced with calmness (at least it appears that way - it's hard to be too calm in a grading!). You do a really good koshinage and your ukemi are a pleasure to watch.

I really enjoy your videos, please keep posting. You have good taste in music too.

    Thanks.

  • Cool video Osaya. Keep up the good work.

  • youll be a great master someday

  • i´m sure of it

  • I like your videos, you should make more. Just curious what song did you use? It sounds like a song by gazette or something.

  • Man... i tell you that watching this videos have really impressed me and encouraged me to practice this form... this style is really good because is not about making suffer but on the contrary avoid even a batle... thx for uploading this videos counting the perspective ones too... they have really opened my mind to a new life-style thaks for that... hope to see more videos like this

    Bests of lucks!!!

  • dear wolfdaddy2002, congratulations for your insight and thank you for your humility.

whilst Blndrfist's words reflect ignorance and arrognace; those who continuously fall for his foolish words, are even greater fools. it is for this reason i have not blocked him from this site. IMHO, if one claims to be a budoka (loosely translated into 'martial artist'), yet cannot deal with the words of a single juvenile fool, how can one be a true budoka?

  • Unfortunately, that is one of my biggest short-comings.. and I hope aikido helps me with my temper. I do not pride myself on it.

  • Show me proof of aikido or "hung gar" or "tai chi" used in a real fight as seen in the countless bullshit fighting demos then I'll talk about my experience. Until then fucktard, the claim is yours. You say this traditional bullshit is effective, prove it.

  • None of your business you aikido loving moron.

  • The way you executed those techniques and moved around gracefully during the randori bout was fantastic. I'm about to test for my 4th kyu on July 21. I'm really looking forward to it. Watching you is a great inspiration and I really enjoy watching your modest videos expressing your views on Aikido.

  • thank you for your gracious words. i wish you all the best for your test, but importantly, for the whole of your aikido journey. cheers.

  • You're good! =D , well, sorry for my english, because I'm spanish. ^^

    Where do you practice?

  • HAHAHAHAH! Oh man I laughed and laughed. Now let's see you do it against someone who resists. Total bullshit waste of time.

  • The whole point of doing it very slowly and controlled is to not completely destroy your training partner. Secondly your partner will now how to land properly, and will anticipate the move in order not to get hurt. People who are oblivious to Aikido are much more likely to get injured. In the police force Aikido is absolutely vicious.

  • You're a dumb fuck. There are all types of fighting training that use full force sparring and include much more powerful techniques than this bullshit. The reason why all we ever see of aikido is a "demo" is because the techniques will never work in real life; it is pure fantasy, and you're a fantasy prone, credulous fool.

  • If you'd done any serious time in a TMA you'd understand.

  • I understand it all quite well. "TMA" bullshit relies upon the stupification, mystification, and blind belief of the idiot students. Aikido is the same way, although not a TMA since o sensei (a senile, angry old shit) basically made it up in the last century.

  • No you don't understand at all. If an Aikidoka is mystified, it's because they're a seriously dumb fuck. Aikido, like all TMA's is a bit DIY. The instructor isn't there to teach so much as help you discover.

There's a reason why we get MMAers and sportsmen turning up at our dojo to learn about body structure and efficent movement, thing is most of them don't want to hear that it'll take years to retrain their bodies. They want it fast and easy like they're used to in their gyms.

  • Lol, calm down little girl. Of course other martial arts do full contact sparring, you'll get bruised to hell, bloodied, and end up with a broken nose etc, it's standard. And what's stopping Aikido practitioners completely destroying the aggressor with punches and kicks on the floor? Nothing. You're wrong to think that people don't follow up after executing a successful manouvre.

  • Bullshit; you have no clue what you're talking about, which just demonstrates that you have never done any full contact sparring. "What's stopping Aikido practitioners completely destroying the aggressor with punches and kicks on the floor?" Your words; is your position that an aikido fool is trained to "destroy" an opponent with kicks and punches? Are you claiming that those techniques are part of aikido training you fucking fool?

  • I am talking about circumstances on the street. If in the event you did indeed need to neutralise an aggressor "thoroughly", then surely ANYBODY can do as they wish. Aikido itself is excellent in many situations, yet you seem to believe that there is some sort of barrier which only allows an Aikidoka to use Aikido. Everybody is human and can act as they wish, even if certain things don't appear in a particular martial arts syllabus. I fight dirty, and I still use Aikido. Your rudeness is boring.

  • And your consistent stupidity is even more of a bore. You have no clue what your talking about; pull your head out of your ass you fantasy prone moron.

  • @Blndrfist Du tycker inte om aikido ändå har du bosatt dig på den här sidan ... stackars människa ... vilka problem XD

  • Go you =D.

    How often do you practice?

  • thanks. mmm, about 3-4 classes a week and one unofficial practice at a friend's place every weekend or so.

  • Hard work =x

  • well, that was the case for the last several months at least.. unfortunately, i probably have to cut it down to about twice a week for the next couple of months due to study commitments. :S

  • ooops!! i apologise for accidentally removing Kit's (TheMegaBit) comment!! i wanted to hit "reply" but must have hit "remove" instead!! so sorry Kit!

anyhow, thanks for your kind words - i hope you find a better dojo at where you are soon!

  • VERY VERY GOOD

  • thank you for your kind words.

  • I was thinking about your video yesterday and I realized something was missing. In fact, missing from all your videos. The weapons training. Are you training in weapons? At third kyuu you should be doing a lot of bokken and jou forms, maybe even some take aways. Do tell.

  • we train in weapons very early on. nonetheless, the grading syllabus only starts requesting bokken and jo suburi in the 2nd kyu and in the 1st kyu, bokken and jo tori.

  • Congrats Lordo! It's been fun watching your progress. You've come a long way very quickly. I can see all your training is paying off. So now that you've had more time on the mats, how have your answers changed to your previous questions? I would be interested to hear updates to your earlier perspectives questions.

  • thanks mate! :P

in regard to my 'perspectives' vlogs, i think my current views have 'evolved' more than 'changed' - if you don't my pedantic semantics. hehe. i believe that i've probably realised far more subtleties in my current understanding, although overall they are fundamentally similar.

in regard to vlog updates, i'm probably far too long-winded to be able to post a vlog that is suitable for youtube. haha. a day-seminar or maybe a book might do the trick though. ;)

  • Um, no, Noudist. He's not in black belts yet.

But, Lordosaya, you did very well. I remember that you'd been training a lot longer than tests require... of course your form is looking better. Very nice. Third kyu already... neat.

I broke my collar bone a while ago when I was up for fifth kyu... I returned to the dojo this week, and my injured shoulder arm is SO weak, but I can feel it getting strong. Sensei said I had the form, so I'm taking the test next week... no ukemi, course.

  • hehe.. my sensei actually asserted that this should be last grading for a while because i've been grading non-stop for the past few ones. so yea, it'll probably a year from now before my next one. ;)

anyhow, it's back to training for me!! and good luck to you for your grading!

  • Doh! I always get 'Kyu' and 'Dan' mixed up. Especially when I see a person in a hakama.

  • Congratulations! You are now qualified to be a teacher, isn't it?

  • thanks! nope, haha - probably a decade away from being a 'qualified teacher'. in the mean time, i'm just happy to be a 'qualified sharer'. ;)

  • Hey man very good. Congratulations! I wish sometimes that I had stayed with Aikido. Very happy for you keep training, looking good, and getting better. Have a question though. I know that you were glasses, seen you with them in some of your other videos. You ever do any training while wearing your glasses? Makes difference in real life you know. Good to train without, but maybe get yourself a pair that you don't mind if they get broke, so that you can train with and without. Congrats again!

  • thank you! gosh.. the pressure is on.. i not only have expectations from myself, my instructors, my sempais, my kohais - and now youtubers too! LOL. :)

yup, i wear glasses - and used to train with them for a while until they broke - and stopped using since. i agree that i probably should train with them occasionally, but can't afford to break another pair... hmm~~

    p.s. donations welcomed!! ;)

  • take the old broke ones and tape them together. No, no, no expectations from me, just been watching your progress, since I became a subscriber, and you can see the difference in your skills, from one vid to the next.I like to see people excel at there hobbies. Kind of get a different perspective on things you know. Anyways, keep up the good work, can't wait to see you get your black belt. Your going to be really good, before it's over with.

  • the lens shattered - so erm, no.. don't think i can tape em' together. haha.. but yea, it'd certainly be a good idea that when i get a new pair of glasses, for me to use an older one for training.

black belt? ha - that's quite some time away still. besides, i subscribe to the philosophy that a 'shodan' is merely the beginning of really learning aikido. at the moment, i'm just learning the forms... anyhow, thank you for your encouragement. much appreciated.
