"gawd"....!!!! that wouldn't last five minutes what about the gauge of the wire & lengths & ,, what band ......????????,, gee,, you Americans are full of it... "good way to blow up your radio"
Why do USA citizens say soder or sodder in the UK we pronounce the L as in Solder.or am I missing the pronunciation, wish my workbench was so clean :-)
@damianmcsorley Accents are a funny thing. I am Mexican and I always pronounced in sodder like a us citizen but after reading this I think I'm changing how I say it.
@damianmcsorley I heard that the actual correct pronunciation for "sauter" is to say "sotter". I think the word you guys are thinking of is "solder" which is the noun. To sauter it is the verb. Sauter is a word really meaning cooking meat, but you could I guess do that by accident, like your finger meat
Not Being Critical PART III: Just a slip of the tongue but not to confuse an "egg" insulator which is also known as a "strain" insulator. The ones used in this video are not the "egg" insulators but just generic insulators. Again, not being critical just helping being "professional" and doing things to make the 10-minute dipole better. Another good suggestion is that insulators are cheap. Why not just add another cheap insulator in the center without sales pitch on the center insulator product?
Not being critical PART II: Instead of un-threading the coax shield, simply bend back the exposed shielded portion 180 degrees. Take a small pointed tool or small screwdriver and open a "hole" in the shield. That is spread the shield up near the black outer insulation to expose the white center conductor. Then simply "fish out" the center conductor through this hole and pull it through. Now, you have the shield still woven and the center conductor ready to complete the job. This is SO much bettr
Not being critical but there are several things that would make the 10-minute dipole better and less prone to premature failure, albeit a quick & easy dipole. First, it's better and faster not to use a knife to cut around the center conductor. It's too easy to nick the center conductor and then it's too easy to break/fail. Better method (and faster), use a pair of dikes and pinch the center conductor insulation, then simply twist the insulation (which is more air than plastic) and it comes off.
Sure would be nice if you had a camera that moved around, so you could see him solder, instead of a picture of his left hand in front of the process! Wow! The camera just moved, that means whoever is holding it doesn't have a clue as how to operate it! no close up, no moving around to point at the action....
I am disapointed with this video I do not own a Ten Tec radio but hear good reviews. I did not gain any infomation I know how to solder a joint. With the jerking around of the cameria and little info on how to design and build- no help. Try again. 73
I really like the information, but you have to agree the video makes it hard to see what you are actually doing. A bit closer and less arm flapping. I have watch a few and look for more. Constructive criticism, meant to help. One last thought. Showing the finished assembly as a still shot at the beginning would help viewers know where you are headed with the assembly step. 73
What gauge would you recomend for the antenna wire or will any do? Also I liked the second position of the main camera. It was much easier to see what you were doing. THX.
Thnaks so much for putting up this video. I am a ham operator, but with not enough time to attend club meetings, and while this does not replace the cameraderie, it takes care of getting some "elmering."
It's much easier and faster to use a 1:1 BALUN and coax with end connectors already on it. I also use electrical and rubber tape to seal the coax connection.
What length (in feet and inches) of wire did you use for each band? I don't like traps, and prefer a dipole, or inverted Vee, for the band being worked. Did youuse 14 gauge wire? Simple and nice antenna, but I know it would take me more than ten minutes to get it up in the air.I plan to put up a new one this year.
I am a newer ham but I never have done projects such as this but it looks really interesting to me.
