The 3 players were helpless in their position. It's extremely difficult to turn and tackle someone when you are going at top speed and the person you are tackling is behind you, with your back turned towards them. It's easier to chase a player down from behind, than to be running full speed and stopping to turn around and tackle.

And it is an end around, not a reverse. A reverse is a misdirection that involves the ball partipating in the misdirection. You hand the ball off on a sweep or veer, to somebody going agasint the zone block the other way.
