The dance clubs were typically open for 6-8 hours and serious clubbers would stay for the duration. Although I recognize many of the moves in this video, nobody could have sustained that level of energy thru the night. (although it was the era before 'crack', 'crystal-meth' and 'ecstasy' - before the politicians decided that clubs were uncool).
I am now in my 50's - but I have been tuned in to the dance scene since I was a teenager in the 70s - and I think it will just keep getting better.
I use to live in the houston club scene of the 80's..lol. I do not remember any hardcore clubbers dancing quite like that. It was a bit slower and more greceful. Maybe if it was the first time you rolled...LOL!!!
As a Houston 80's veteran I agree, it is much too fast and way too jumpy. All the dancing I saw (and daresay did) was much slower, and exactly as you described, "Graceful."
Gee I remember it differently, way differently!! Maybe cuz I was at the punk, alternative, new wave clubs dancing to Depeche Mode, Front 242, The cure & Danzig etc. etc.
Do you know the name of the band in the audio? It's really not that far stylistically from Depeche Mode, sounds New Wavy to me, but I only went clubbing once, with a friend. The music is a bit too much on the light-pop side, I admit. I liked & listened all the bands you mention, too, except Danzig. NiN and Ministry are cool, too.
I can't remember who the song is by. Its so familiar, on the tip of my tounge but just can't remember to save my life. It kinda reminds me of The Smiths. But I am probrably way off LOL ;D NIN & Ministry are cool too, I agree :D

Wow, hopefully this guy has since been able to get the medical help that he clearly needed. I will pray that he did...

The foot catch behind the knee was a good and true move, but his pace seems a little fast.
