Astonishing. A woman in her 60s can still sing with such agility and panache. The Semiramide duet with Marilyn Horne seems like it's from two women half their age.
I was fortunate enough to hear Dame Joan twice: once in Maria Stuarda and again in Anna Bolena, right here in Houston, Texas. She was beyond incredible. I was awestruck. I heard the finale from Anna Bolena in seventh row center and count it as one of the most memorable musical experiences of my life! I also got to meet her breifly and obtain an autograph. She was an absolute goddess - a "diva" in every sense of the word. Heaven sparkles with her sublime presence!
As a teenager I first saw her in New York, then the legendary 1965 Semiramide in Boston, and everything else. We will not see her like again. How can one possibly take the jeans and t-shirt careers of Netrebko and the current crop after Joan? Sorry, not possible. In her chosen repertoire, she was the greatest of them all.
MS. JOAN SUTHERLAND IS A LEGEND AND HER UNIQUE BEAUTIFUL VOICE CANNOT BE COMPARE WITH ANYONE ELSE'S VOICE. TRULY MAGNIFICENT...THANKS FOR SHARING THIS....

Sutherland looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous here. Such a shame that most modern sopranos at 30 can't sing the coloratura passes in the Semiramide duet as well as she does here at 63. :( I miss the good ol' days ... even though I was born two years after Joan retired. Haha.
@ChrisStockslager Most people are well past there "singing prime" by 63, Then again 30 year olds still have a way to go yet. The voice changes constantly in life. Getting old does not necessarily mean getting worse. Different, different tone, different strengths ans weaknesses. Good health keeps the voice in good shape for a long time. But the changes of age should not be considered as all bad. It has been said that voices age like wine.
Our last look at Joan on the stage was her collecting her gear to truck off to her next endeavor. She was one of a kind. Thank you for posting the whole thing!
Thank you so much for this! She was the greatest lady of them all. At her age she still could pull off stunning coloratura singing. The voice burnished with gold and still beautiful. What a magnificent career, a lesson for any serious singer today.

the singing of Dame Joan, Marilyn Horne, and Luciano are unmatchable. They sing easier than most of us speak.
