  • Very good song !

  • Thanks to my Dear friend for sharing this great song with me.... I remember it well, Marcie xox

  • The first "trippy" band, even before "Rubber Soul".

  • Right on Right on Right on.....long live the memory of the Byrd's. PEACE & HARMONY.

  • use to go with one of their daughter.......last name was white

  • I remember seeing them in Birmingham in 65 or 66 and unfortunately, they got booed off the stage because this audience was all excited to see the booty shaking Lou Christie who was lined up next. You could tell they were pissed and yanked their guitar chords out of the amps. Wonder if they still remember that?

  • This is better than Rap and im 13 :D

  • The BEST MUSIC EVER; OLDIES I COME :D

  • beautiful sound, the fender 12 string, center, gives the iconic jangle. The rickenbacker on the left looks like a 6 but these came in 12 string too................

p.s. why do people put up nasty comments on beautiful stuff like this, it doesnt make sense !

  • eles eram lindinhos fofinhos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song this brings back so many memories

  • Peace is great

But this music let's be on some real shit

This song is just rambling not even having a topic but a chorus and not lyrics that mean anything but just words

  • i forgot they used film stuff on calculators back then :/

  • Happy New year to each of you and long live the Byrds music and to all the friends and family members who have passed...pecae be safe..larry

  • would there be great music without the magic swirling ship and the dancing spell

??? Wow I was born to late!!!

  • Love it........always have....loved the original too.....remember Bob?

  • The echoes from this still haven't died down. I hope they never do.

  • timeless, and i'm 24

  • Fuck you Byrds. Be original.

  • @FrancisGumb Fuck you this is better then dylans version by far. DYlan's version is dreary shit.

  • Bob Dylan version is much better...but the founders deserve more respect

  • @Gordon595 There both good.

  • Guitar clusterfuck. For real. A really great interpretation of Dylan.

  • i think this was the inspiration for "flower people" by spinal tap.

  • Super rare to have live vocals in those days, even if the instrumentals were on tape. Great film...I love it!!

  • ohh this is the song that comes out in the movie " Dangerous Minds " :)

  • I think I almost had a heart attack when Gene spoke!

  • Happy Birthday Gene!

  • i love it ;)

    and i´m 14 !!!

  • @K2011Pat I'm 3 months old and I loathe you.

  • i'm just

  • @MX2803 And i will kick you in your fuckin ass

  • Interestingly Roger McGlinn is NOT wearing sun glasses.

  • I feel very fortunate to have been brought up in the sixties, kids today have no idea what they missed. A time of innocence and love man!!!

  • @samthespan1 a way purer / cheaper drugs ;)

  • I can't hear the backup vocals

  • @discdon ... thats your first step to being an EX Alcoholic

  • byrdhouses . goofy

  • These guys were great, long hair was definitley the thing on men, and it will be again, someday. What goes around, comes around.

  • They are all looking so funny, but it's do damn great :D

  • saudades, nesta época era apenas uma menina, ouvindo a radio carioca que a cada musica anunciava a hora certa kkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • Songs of my youth, I started one and 2 in a row.

  • Hey there mr. shaving cream guy...

  • Superb upload, thanks

  • I think you spelled "tamborine" wrong. :)

  • @QuestionsOfYou Erm no he got it right, you don't write 'neighbor' so why 'tamborine'? Look it up on wikipedia.

  • wow they are actually singing here lol

  • Bob Dylan is so much better

  • I don't know whether this was already mentioned (too many comments to check) but McGuinn looks almost naked without his spec glasses that became his trademark soon after this. This, I think, is the only time I have seen him without them during his time with the group.

  • My God...they were so stoned!!!!

  • Never Knew Shaggy had a Rickenbacker 360 in the back othe Mystery Machine

  • Rickenbacker!!

  • Gene Clark passed away May 24th 1991 age 46 and Michael Clarke passed away December 19th 1993,age 47.

  • I dont understand why the byrds are listed as one of the greatest artists of all time in rolling stone magazine for doing crappy covers of bob dylan songs.

  • This version ain't got shit on Bob Dylan's.

  • What a great year 65 to be as teenager!!!:)))))

Our music was and is forever evergreen.***************

  • I was born in 65! What a great year for music and a time to be born!

  • never noticed the similarity with Lennon. Is there anyone left from this group...

  • @strappingone Yes three are stil alive including the lead singer

  • @strappingone ;Roger Mcguinn,David Crosby and Chris Hillman are still living and individually performing.

  • it was great to be around during that era, since i wasn't a 17-year-old guy with lousy grades

  • vocal harmony lost because of bad audio mix - song is definitely diminished, but great song

  • David Crosby with his original liver

  • Like Scoooooobb

  • great song and a great cover, does look like John Lennon from the side

  • @icespeckledhen No he does not look anything like John Lennon....

  • man the singer is high as fuck!

  • great proto punk mockery

  • anyone else stoned?

  • Peace, love and marijuana. It's ok but now we have a little problem with the debt.

  • They're all thinking, "Being on Hullabaloo will help me get laid."

  • @blazeablunt4200..and there are too many paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, right????

  • argh, a trillion times bob dylan better and alone than theese guys pretending to be playing something... -__-

  • Too many guitars... but still amazing

  • This is the first time I've seen Gene Clark also playing a 12 string guitar. McGuinn has he Ric 360/12 and Clark has a Fender XII...which is basically a Fender Jazzmaster witha 12 string neck.

  • Four Piece Tamborine

1.hey dude im going nowhere this one is for me 2. take me on a magic carpet ride all i know is my clothes 3.take me for a ride with all due respect 4.entertain me .it doesnt get any better than this.

  • I LOVE this song! Bob Dylan's version is pretty cool, but in my opinion, the byrds' version is alittle bit better. Not by alot though! No offense Bob Dylan!

  • THIS IS SO VINTAGE, BUT STILL COOL...

  • Superbes images

    theCARENTAN

  • Hullabaloo!

  • Although it's sung over the studio instrumental tracks it's still great to hear what the Byrds sounded like back then. McGuinn looks absolutely trashed while Crosby doesn't. Given their respective histories that's sort of amazing.

  • A+...Dan O'Niallain

  • 17 people must be poles.

  • @lucas070798 It's not a competition, although my dad was born in 54, so i guess you're winning the who's dad is younger contest.

  • @DimensionsofChange which mean you win the more experienced dad award, the dad with more common sense award etc...

  • @dcFaddy touché

  • far out man.

  • His vocals are great...he sounds like such stoner..which is fitting for this song

  • DON'T YOU WISH IT WAS 1965 AGAIN

  • @lmarieed1 Oh yeah... it be wonderful.. so much to love that about that time even for a baby like me..

  • @lmarieed1 Not really, I wasn't even a fetus until 1991.

  • @lmarieed1 Yeah,And earning the money i am earning today.

  • @lmarieed1 I sure do. I'd be 21 again!!

  • @chrystle1000 Great answer! lol

  • @lmarieed1 Nah, then I wouldn't exist. :)

  • @lmarieed1 For the music, yes...........for the year, no. I'd be in high school and I'd have homework! Yikes!

  • @lmarieed1 You mean it's not?

  • @lmarieed1 I was born 1995

  • @lmarieed1 Heck no..........I'd still be in high school. Would you go for 1969?

  • @lmarieed1 1965 My wife was born.,,,,I went to the school for the first time...... All my life in front of me.... I cannot imagine the feelings if I had to decide to start it again...It would be the biggest adventure, I am sure, considering all risks. But , probably, I would choose YES! One more time!

  • 17 people can't read my, can't read my, no they can't read my poker face.

  • This is REAL music! Today they record dog shit music.

  • Why was Gene playing guitar instead of tambourine ?

  • A great song from a great time!

  • A VERY AWESOME CLASIC...(FROM A FAN IN MEXICO)

  • The jukebox ever played; and edged memories of my mind; hearing this song again; memories from that old childhood cafe; that was then the only cafe in the town..

    Very good interpretation; inventive arrangement

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • Thanks for this mcd220.... just the coolest looking group in the universe, of all time. Who ever has looked even half as cool as Roger Mcguinn? No one. Great track, the Byrds almost invented Folk/Rock. Thanks man....... peace.

  • Should probably check one connection between the fab four and the Byrds: Derek Taylor (press agent and chief fixer). Also the famous Lennon quote: "...my favorite group." The Beatles did this a lot. Another "favorite group" reference went out to Harry Nillson.

  • it is so fucking good

  • This is a pretty decent version I guess, but nothing will ever touch Bob's original. At least not for me.

  • David Crosby = Fat Lennon?

  • @plewis783 Pretty funny. Who will we point to for the "fat Crosby" comparison?

  • @plewis783 Oh...my...GOD!!! How did I not see that?

  • @plewis783 He spewed when he saw the playback to this and blamed their manager for letting him wear the green pea coat.

  • @plewis783

WTH? Take off your granny glasses, and put the Weed down!

Crosby looks NOTHING like John Lennon, much less a fat Lennon!

David Crosby looks like a very young, thinner, and mustache-less Crosby of today!

Keep any Beatles references out: The Byrds look life the !@#$ Byrds, not the @##% Beatles!!

  • david crosby so cooooool

  • Comment removed

  • god this is fucking awful. no wonder bob dylan hated these fruitcakes

  • @tylervaillant Dylan did not hate them. He praised their versions of his songs and even appeared on stage with them. When they briefly reunited in 1989, he appeared on stage with them again.

  • @mabewa Correct. He hung out with them as well. Lennon once called them his favorite group.

  • @johnptretbar I was just comparing the Byrds and the Beatles. The Beatles had the songwriting team and put out a huge amount of originals more and more as they grew famous.Plus they had George Martin, the fifth Beatle who arranged and added orchestra to a lot of their hits. The Byrds seemed not as smooth and versatile and did a lot of Dylan songs.Just doing an article on this and you made me reflect on it with the mention of John Lennon.Appreciate any thoughts you have on it. : )

  • @justcallmeassinine See post above

  • lsd

  • sounds a bit off with an american accent

  • @AprilClash bob dylan is american through and through what are you talking about

  • Thank God for Dave Crosby!

  • Glen Campbell played the 12 string on the studio cuts along with Larry Knectel ;hal blaine as the sessions cost so much they couldnt afford a lot of retakes ..not saying they couldnt play the songs but got better cuts out of session men [ and quicker]

  • @mlkemper I agree. However, I read that Terry Melcher , who produced the session, initially didn't trust any of the band members, other than McGuinn to play the guitar parts. That's why he hired The Wrecking Crew to lay the other tracts. If anyone does not know who The Wrecking Crew is, lookem up. You will be amazed at the number of name acts they collaborated with in the studio back in the 60's. In fact, they are currently putting together a documentary about these awesome players!!

  • @jamesskb The Wrecking Crew played on the "Mr. Tambourine Man/I Knew I'd Want You" SINGLE, but only the single. The band played on all of the other tracks on the actual album, and on subsequent albums. If you listen to the album, it's extremely easy to hear the difference between the single tracks and the other stuff... Mr. Tambourine Man has a very smooth sound, but then I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better comes in and it's very rough, almost punky. The Wrecking Crew would never sound that raw!

  • The sound of Byrds meets Donovan 2011:

Michael Moeller - Where the wind blows

    Its just wonderfull!

  • The date was May 11,1965 - The Byrds made their TV debut with "Mr. Tambourine Man" on NBC's "Hullabaloo."

  • Bob Dylans orginal is better but this is a pretty good cover

  • Crosby is indeed a baby but the band did advance the science of both bass and skinny jeans. Thinkin' there is more George-esque than John here. Great tune !

  • you're right charlie, its cheesy as hell and way too similar to the beatles dislike QQ

  • 0.53.......Kids, dont take drugs!

  • @DoctorBohr booo, how many drugs have you taken?

  • i love how he sings just slow enough that you notice it.

  • Yeah, McGuinn looked like John here, but the influence went both ways. It was the Byrds that turned George on to the Rick 12 string, which found its way into Hard Day's Night and many others. One of the many great things about sixties was that influences went back and forth and the music got better and better.

  • @slownoman

To be honest, The Hard Days Night inspired the Byrds guys start a band at all.

  • @slownoman No doubt about George and McGuinn's mutual respect, but

McGuinn had never seen a Rick 12 until a Hard Day's Night and went straght out and bought one after seeing it. There are interviews in which Roger describes checking the machine heads on the Rick as George played "I should have known better" and realising that there were 12.

  • Wow could that man look any more like John Lennon?

  • holy SHITTT david crosby looks sooo frickin young!

  • @MATTSKELL85 He looked like a chubby John Lennon here.

  • Mr Tambourine Man by The Byrds is to put it bluntly AWESOME, there really isn't many other 60's songz that even come close WOW

  • GENIAL !

  • beatles style?

  • Is Gene's mike on?

  • Look! Its Shaggy! At 1:14! XD Love this band and song though!

  • not lip-synching--- cool!!

that was a problem back then.

  • Impossible to listen to this and not be transported back to the 60's. Magic!!

  • I would like to know where jay neuman is in this one..? wasnt he a byrd and early byrd guitar player..as well as a fine chemist and musician?

  • i hav this on my iPOD whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I can't believe Bob Dylan stole all these songs from the Byrds...Dan O'Niallain

  • @oldiesbutgoodies67 Dylan wrote this song and performed it first!

  • God damn longhairs

  • I spent most of the video convincing myself that John Lennon was not singing and playing guitar.

  • @theincrediblecharlie That's hillarious man. That's exactly what I was thinking too.

  • @theincrediblecharlie Granted he has the vocal attitude of Lennon and the way he stands, but perhaps they are great sigers in their own right.Obviously Lennon having recorded more great songs.

  • @theincrediblecharlie That's David Crosby.

  • Jim (Roger) sings it with true sincerity...Mike Clarke wasn't very good, but looked good. Hal Blaine played drums on lot of their early recordings.

  • Tell the set designers we need twenty byrdhouses by showtime!

  • for some bands to get the jingly jangly guitar back in the spotlight, combining fun with seriousness. I think that the 60s (and the 50s to some extent) will be looked upon as a renaissance.

  • I lament the passing of the 60s and the purity of its output. The Byrds, for instance, created folk songs (not this cover of course) that were both contemporay and as if they were centuries old. For me, there is no comparison between the renaissance-like epic experimentation of The Byrds , Brian Wilson, The Doors etc and much of what followed. After that, it got both darker (Pink Floyd-albeit not truly darker than some of Wilson's Smile work) and lighter with disco. It took until the 80s

  • one of the most influential american rock n roll band alongside velvet underground and bruce springsteen and e street band and others

  • To all you Byrds lovers, please check out our tribute band, The Byrds Collective.

We can't pretend to match the greatness of The Byrds, but we're having fun trying!

  • I gotta pay more attention to these! Yes, Chris IS playing a Fender VI. It's Gene Clark with the Fender XII. It's also possible that the Fender VI was used for the recording of the song, with the bass line being quite a bit more mellow than typical of a Jazz Bass or Precision Bass; it's all in the pickup selection (of 3), and bass cut vs. no bass cut.

  • Does anybody else notice David Crosby looks almost exactly like John ennon in this video?!

  • @kensteee It's actually a Fender Electric XII that Chris Hillman is holding...the split pickups and "hockey stick" headstock are the telling details. I own a Fender Electric VI (a.k.a. Bass VI), so I do know the difference.

  • Great group
