SPOILERS:

Shiranui just seemed so powerful and breath-taking, I was actually really horrified to learn he left, deeply wounded, after the Twin Demons right into the collapse of Moon Cave to save Nagi. Just shows how wonderful and selfless Shiranui was. He really cared about others more than he did himself, like a proper gaurdian deity should.

All hail Shiranui. Long live Amaterasu.

I remember when I first heard this. I was in awe when Shiranui came, I was speechless. I truely felt like there was a God before me. I think I cried little too. And in the end when this played, I felt empowered, like nothing could stop me no matter how hard they tried. I will always win because I have the whole world behind me. I cried then too. This game made me cry a lot. I love it!

On the topic of Amaterasu's gender, the game's director has said that no one knows because you can't decide whether the sun is male or female. It's the frickin' sun.

"Mother to us all" doesn't necessarily have to do anything with gender. You know how the expression "mother nature" comes from the idea that nature creates and nurtures life just as a mother gives birth to and nurtures a child, rather than the idea that nature is an actual female? It's like that.

Plus as you said, "Mother to us all" doesn't set the gender either. But there is one little thing in the game that confirms the gender. Kuze shrine entrance, when you talk to the ghost guarding the door, Yatsu. He sees Amaterasu's true form and discribes her as a beautiful maiden.

Ammy is sensitive about her flaws!" Or something like that. She raises her leg in golden fury, but female alpha wolves are recorded to sometimes do that as well. Plus- Golden fury would be useless if she squatted right? So I think the raising of the leg is just the way the game works.
