...so we got taken out. But the point is that once you learn the game and the strategy, you do not have to have the $1,000 marker. You can do really well with basic stuff. We got a few of them throughout the day abd those guys were shocked that some amatuers gave them a game. We upgraded from Spyders to AutoMags and tricked 'em out. Now I haven't played in years, but looking to buy a new gun and mess around at Pevs in Aldie VA.

So we were practicing against Bob Long's Ironmen out at the MD fields off of Rt. 50 toward Annapolis, not sure if those are still open (this was before Pev opened all his fields). It was a 10 on 10 I think and me and my friend were working the left side (this is woods, not speedball). We bunkered one of their guys and had him but our crappy stock Spyders with CO2 jammed up...

@hotrodmcspoonjr try to stay as tight as possible to the bunker. never put ur gun down or u will probably get shot. when poking ur head out do it in a quick motion like pop ur head out just enough so u can see down the field and then pop back in, all in the same time try to see were the paint is coming from. if you can hear paint hitting ur bunker like lots of paint dont poke ur head out on that side

What I mean by this, is I see a lot of new speedball players run slowly with their hands up to bunkers, sprint to the bunker, and slide. Don't slowly make your way over there. And a way to control the game is to move up. Don't stay back, or they will move up on you, and pin you. Also, maybe you're playing with too many people on too small of a field. If you have small field, limit to 3v3, a big on limit to 5v5.

Then, hug the marker tightly and lean so you see your eyes and the gun at the same time in the mirror. It takes a lot of practice. Then, practice quick peeps. If you see the marker and/or your body before you see your eyes, it means you just revealed yourself to the opponent before you were able to spot them. Also, learn shooting with left/right hand.

the "gear" is really about team identity as much as protection. The jerseys offer very little protection themselves and mainly serve simply as a jersey. Yes we tournament players often use elbow/knee pads but if you played the way we did you would want em too, its not to protect us from the paint is so we don't blow out our joints diving into our bunkers. Tourny play is much different than rec play. the pants help with this as well.. and offer protection in another very umm sensitive area =)
