@brobinson75 the steering wheel in 2nd gen Camaros are extremely loose, or at least the one in the '71 SS Camaro im restoring to have as my first car. im 17 and have drove Nissan Xterras, a 2010 Dodge Charger, and some shitty GMC Safari van, but my Camaros steering wheel turns a hell of alot easier than all the ones i just named, the Charger was the closest one to mine. This guy must really have a problem with power steering or his steering column.

It cracks me up how people think only the 70s had spilt bumpers. Like others have said the split bumpers are part of the RS package which can be on any 70-73 the RS package also has the round parking light besdie the headlight and the exteneded nose. Some people get confused when they see a standard camaro that should have the full bumper on it with the split bumpers on it that doesnt make it a split bumper camaro. This camaro is a RS also 71s could have the short or tall rear spoiler.

I almost had a 73 with a split bumper front on it was real nice had a 396 out of a 68 Chevelle in it guy put a 454 in the chevelle lol THAT was the car he was keeping , lost my shot at it tho. deal was it was MINE if no one made an offer in 2 weeks uncle would buy and hold it till I was old enough 2 days before deadline some guy waltzes in and buys it strait up. 4 days later we find out the guys son put it into the back of a pickup truck. frame was unsalvagable car was totalled cryin shame

The RS option could be ordered on any 1970-73 Camaro from the basic platform all the way up to the SS & Z28 models. These are known as RS/SS & RS/Z28. If you ordered a SS or Z28 with the RS package, the RS emblems were replaced with SS or Z28 emblems. However on a Z28, it will still say "RS" on the steering wheel only.

I've had a 1971 RS since 1980. It has the EXACT same front end as this one. This car has an after-marker hood, fender vents from a '79 Z28, & the trunk lid spoiler is from a 1970. Can't tell you if this car is an original RS since it's been heavily modified, but it DOES have the correct RS front end.

@87Jaws Cars without power steering usually have another ratio in the steering gear, that require more turns of the steering wheel. (But makes it easier to turn it.)

A car _with_ power steering where the power assistance has failed... that's a completely different monster.

Cavalley1 those are just the actual vents from a 78 Z28 camaro that are removable and he just cut out the holes for them in the 71 fenders and bolted the vents in or at least that is what it looks like to me

@WHlTEMAN split bumper is not a year... it's part of the RS package, which was available on the 70-73 camaros. However, many people attempt to replicate the rs feature. An easy way to tell is to look at the parking lamps, if they are round, and above the bumper, like this guy's car, that is either a true rs, or a good replication. If the parking lamps are long, slender and below the bumper, it was never an rs, and is probably a poor replication.

VAroute66 - it was a stock aluminum headed Merlin 509 with .577 lift. A buddy tore it apart before we even fired it up and slipped in a .621 hydraulic flat tappet.

It dynoed 608hp and 624lbs torque with the assesories on and a low 9.5 to 1 compression and that was with the stock cam.

Pump gas and you can sit in traffic all day with the A/C on.

Watch Second Drive under my ID and you can see me jump on it a little bit. (not much)

I just rolled over 10,000 miles with absolutely no problems.
