Kenny Rankin had a special gift. His voice was so soft and in tune that he allowed you to hear the words and enjoy the melody. Very versatile, indeed.

Stan Getz said of him that he was "a horn with a heartbeat." So true. We forget (sometimes) that the voice is an instrument. He reminds us.

I've discovered him just tonight. It's a shame we didn't know him in Italy. It's incredible how special talents can be hidden by who knows "who and what"! We surely lost a lot. Great special.

I've had the pleasure of seeing him twice; once in Long Beach and once in the Bay Area. Phenomenal lyrical craftsman... and the BEST "make out" music on the planet!

Paul McCartney wanted Kenny to sing Blackbird when Lennon and McCartney were both inducted into the song writers hall of fame. Paul really liked Kenny's version. I read today that Kenny Rankin has died due to complications from Lung Cancer. A terrible loss. He had been working on songs for a new album.

A great saloon singer........ Frank loved this guy. Unfortunately he left us last sunday 6/9/2009. RIP to a great jazz singer.

He is AMAZING! Saw him in Pitsburgh in1973 and he's still as amazing as he was back then. Fell in love with him and his voice and have never lost it. One incredible talent!!

God this man can sing. He wraps his voice around the lyrics like nobody. And the liberties he takes with the melody are all right!
