Definitely from a 1974 broadcast of PBS/WTTW Chicago 11's Soundstage. This very program has been tucked away in my memory ever since. Hoyt Axton and Steve Goodman also appeared on this show. THANKS for posting it!

The Highwaymen are pure country. Why do all the negative comments and bad language users bother making comments when they know that any negativity just doesn't count. This is called "People Power" which is a collossal force. Bad attitudes just do not count against talent!

Arlo was able to make a career off this song but lets not forget that Steve Goodman wrote it and performed it at a level exponentially superior to what we see here

@ericpierce85 Arlo made a career off Alice - this was a great addition to what was already happening. All praise to Goodman for the song, of course, but it might have sunk without race without Arlo's version.

@SEGoddard Arlo did not make a career off Alice or city of new orleans. He made a career out of his great song writing ability and story telling. For example motorcycle song.

I think this Soundstage had Steve Goodman and Hoyt Axton on it also. Does anyone else have anything with the three performers together? I am looking for an a capella performance of a whaling song done on this Soundstage.
