I dont understand crap from what ATC is saying. I used to use voice chat with FSINN, and VATSIM was alot of fun and i had 0 problems understanding the ATC. then I made transition to Squawkbox 4 cus i thought its better. But now im scared to even come online to VATSIM.
Honest question: Do some think that to be good at ATC, you need to mush all your words together into one word? When I listen to LiveATC I hear clear normal cadence most of the time. I think if we all just slowed down a tad, it would be a whole lot better for everyone.
@absolutsoju I agree. Some controllers seem to think it's cool to make like a hostile, world-weary auctioneer with their commands. They even do this when there is plenty of time, and traffic is light.
If I don't understand something, I don't hesitate to say, "please say again". And if I still don't understand them, I ask them to send it in text. At that point, they'll talk to you as if you were a child, but whatever... THEY are the ones with the problem, not me.
vatsim did in my head. Im too slow for it....in a va, are people joining for something to do..or do they get unknown files about the route they fly which brings in unusual circumstances?
I wanted to listen and watch Vatsim in action, but I cant even connect..although I was pinged but I couldnt have the green contact stuff connect and show...so, its like everything I own...like my cisco router...SIMPLE, EASY connection....bulldog, I bought two and tons of stuff, names, numbers...Im going crazy...
Im going to try hooking up...i have to watch youtube tutorials so I know how to get this right..its almost as imtimitating as doing it for real radio communication with the tower, lol...see you one day soon I hope on vatsim. makes it more realistic and thats what I like....ciao
@Soccermaniac3555 . CRADS was something I came up with myself. Apparently, there is another one, the official one, CRAFT (Clearance, Route, Altitude, Frequency (dep), Transponder).
@TheAG1234 RE: Vatsim...they talk so dang fast, its like "HUH? What was the first thing you said? Oh, thats my aircraft registration numbers, right.." Struth....maybe I should delete fsx and stay with tw08 golf, :)
Isn't the age requirement 16 year old+ on VATSIM? Are their 14 year olds on VATSIM cause I'm thinking about joining..I'm nervous cause I haven't mastered ATC 100%, and even if I do I probably will get nervous and mess up or start laughing.
@ModelAirports Im just trying to link up my fsx with vatsim and I feel the same way, like the real thing and we dont wanna sound like dummies, too late, newbies like us are expected to ask what, or repeat info...or go slow, etc...Im thinkin of just texting at first...it will get less intimidating as you use it, then it will be old hat and you will be telling someone else, no problem...maybe see you online sometime soon. Rick
i really want to join vatsim except iheard you cant do direct gps flights and i'm not that confident with and other form of ifr. will i still be able to fly and just put in a note that i'm flying direct gps?
hey there - i wonder if you can help me. i recently did a computer cleanup. before the cleanup i managed to install fscopilot and fsinn - even though the installation wasn't complete. i uninstalled everything and tried again - this time however, my computer is saying "error opening file" when i click on the "install" icon in fscopilot. do u know what this might mean? did i uninstall a program that reads fspilot/fsinn accidently? plse help.
All real world pilots started right where you are. Don't expect so much from yourself so soon. Give yourself a chance. One of the first things I had to learn was that ATC is there to help you, not condemn you. We are a very close knit family in aviation and we all know what it feels like in the beginning.
This program comes highly recommended. It is for real world ATC communications. It's called
@ellonysman I had that too in the beginning ( although I'm flying on IVAO ) you just have to do it. Just think like I did:
The hell with it, I just do it. I think the biggest 'problem' on IVAO and VATSIM is the communication between pilot and ATC. it's hard to say but : get over it is the only solution :) good luck ;)
@ellonysman I was very nervous at first too! Prepare what you are going to say, that's what I did first, like wrote down what I was going to say next :)
@point6000x why? well, im older, thus frustrated with the pc enough already, life problems...and never ending options etc on and now i downloaded the components but it didnt hook up with vatsim, no green connection, thus i have to search and go step by step to fix yet another computer related problem....not the patience i should have...sigh!
It's best to program ur rout into gps, KNOW YOUR ROUT. If u don't and u make a wrong turn, your bound to get one of these controllers who has been on for 24 hrs yelling at you and giving you a smart ellic tone. Some of the controlers are bad about that. Trust me,I know from my early days on fsx.

up to a point, make sure you know what you're doing, they won't get on you for phraseology, but if you file a chart and fly something else they will get really pissed.
check out the website, i'm under AZ or anush saffari, i'm bravo rated, mostly control LAX_TWR. taking a 2 month vacation so i won't be on in the next couple montsh though.
yeah the "session" is open 24/7 and different controllers all over the world can log on anytime, they are ussually split into the ARTCCs and VACCs that exist in real life.
you choose the closest one, or the one which has smallest ping(use ServInfo, great app!), all are connected so it is only a matter of connection speed, you still can fly anywhere.
try going to your local library or call up before you go ask if they have computer games ( most do, or the ones i have been too have ) if they do go there check out fs9 install all 4 disks like your normally would but instead of removing it from your computer when you return them just download a file from fly away simulation called fs9 no cd crack read the instructions to that file do that start up fs9 with no disk and there you go
you can also use x-plane, even version 9 with which xsquawkbox works without any problems even though v9 is not mentioned in the manual! I am an x-plane newbie and a vatsim newbie but I already like both :)
im a pretty well experienced vatsim pilot, ive thought of starting atc, not because ill enjoy it as much as flying, but because doign atc for abit will benefit me with my pilot and navigational skills. :) but first i gotta pas the VATSIM atc exams. :S

One of these days i'll work up the courage to connect. btw..not braggin either..i have close to 800 hours on fsx on my planes. I can perform ILS approach or land on the numbers using GPS if I make the turns early.
That's a PMDG 737. I have over 600 hrs online with VATSIM in that plane. Its the code, that u put to ur transponder, so it is a confirmation code. in VRC (ATC client)U tell them to put it in so the speed on the radar dont flash. So we always know if u put it in right or not :D
This two Videos from you are verry informatively...i can learn a lot from them. Can i contact you?..cause i got some questions.....Grettings from LSZB :-)
hey man great job!, im gondering what kind of FSM do you have, cause i hope u can give me some pointers, for example the aircraft you have, is it from a virtual airline? o where do you download so i can have the closest to a real aircraft, like the sound you have with the computer saying the minimums etc. i will apreciate! good luck and clear skies!
Thanks for posting this vid. Yesterday I made my fisrt flight at IVAO, and i was making so much mistakes, I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only one. I think when you're getting used to it, it's a lot of fun flying online at IVAO/VATSIM. Grtzz
nick plese i need ur help how do i connect to ivao and how do i use mic( i tried connectin on the default 737 but it said i was online but i could still use the fsx built-in atc and there was no one and no voice... please send reply to my inbox
That's how it starts. your best bet is to read through as much of the pilot resource center material as possible. It has great guides on what do to for your first flight. I used it exclusively for my first flight. Has transcripts on what to say, etc. But also just observe, my first week on VATSIM I didnt even get off the ground. I just sat on the tarmac trying to absorb ATC and the vocabulary. Also start small. I started with the default fs9 cessna and did a small trip. Now I'm flying 767s.
VATSIM uses FS2004 and a program such as Squawkbox to connect to VATSIM's server so that you can fly with other flying enthusiasts and air traffic controllers
hi i joined VATSIM now and have had a few flights already and its fantastic....on sunday there is an event at vatsim UK called 'cross the pond' where we going from one of three u.s. airports including philadelphia to london heathrow-are you going to be at this please
hi im just interested-do ATC basically apart from enroute give you directions to adhere to the sids and stars and then the approaches of the airports u using in vatsim....also do u have these charts to hand when you fly
yeah fantastic...i cant wait to get going with vatsim.....got proficient at default flight sim x ...awaiting the pmdg 747x and then hopefully see u then!
vatsim(dot)net....to fly all u need is flight simulator....X is the lastest... to control (atc) you just need to join....you dont hav to buy any software for atc
you don't, you can use your FS's chat window or your client's chat window to type, but like coventelite said, it's much more fun and realistic if you use voice. you can still use text at the same time use voice if you want.
A couple of points. When anthony read back his clearance, you stepped on the controller. You are supposed to wait until the controller says either "SPA 991, readback correct, Push and start at your discression. Contact me when ready to taxi" (since it was tower obviously ground and clearance were not online so there would be no need to switch freqs). The tower did the right thing and put you on request (kind of a slap on the hands)
Thanks for the comments. I did not step on. Controller had already acknowledged SPA991's readback. It just did not make it on the video. If you listen carefully, SPA991 is ready to taxi, this only happens after controller says read back correct.
Looks like the PMDG 737, thought it may be the Level-D Sim 767. I have both but have been flying GA and warbirds for the past few months on VATSIM so I am not sure.
Deftinatley PMDG 737, the 767 cockpit has a fixed layout with mostly analogue gauges and 2 screens on top of each other (ND and PFD), and also has a beige colouration instead of grey. New Gen 737's have screens side by side and only the Standby gauges are Analogue, cockpit primarily grey-blue colour.
I dont understand crap from what ATC is saying. I used to use voice chat with FSINN, and VATSIM was alot of fun and i had 0 problems understanding the ATC. then I made transition to Squawkbox 4 cus i thought its better. But now im scared to even come online to VATSIM.

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology and sociology:
(1) Why do we relate aeroplanes and aerospace technology with charity and humanity?
(2) How can aeroplanes and aerospace techonolgy promote charitry and humanity? (eg. VATSIM deploy WorldFlight program help to rasie fund for charity)
(3) What are the other possible activity(s) that aeroplanes can be deploy to promote charity and humanity?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

Just out of curiosity -
Does the tower tell you your F/P to input into the FMC, or can you fly your own rout from the likes of flightaware?
Also, what is the most common FS version people now fly?
CotterTheOtter 3 years ago
Well,
1. Tower never tell you a full route of youre flight.
2.You cant fly on own.
3. The most of people use a Flight Simulator 2004, but if you want you can also use a FS2002 and FSX.
Cheers.

Isn't really an "easy" way to remember your clearance, maybe try writing it down so you don't forget as they give it to you...
hifriend741 4 years ago

Ease up on da info. srry

can u show me an easy way to remember IFR clearance? i always forget at the altitude
HanGookBoi 4 years ago
What does Squawk mean?
residentevilbestplay 4 years ago
not sure but i think its just a confirmation code
HanGookBoi 4 years ago
Its the code, that u put to ur transponder, so it is a confirmation code. in VRC (ATC client)U tell them to put it in so the speed on the radar dont flash. So we always know if u put it in right or not :D
Buster690 4 years ago
Where is the transponder in MSFS2004? I've never seen it in any of my planes
bluemini9 4 years ago
On the radio stack second from the bottom, with 4 digits to put in :)
Buster690 4 years ago

make sure you have the correct frequency of the desired control area (GND, TWR, etc.) tuned into your COMM1 radio.

Thanks for posting this vid. Yesterday I made my fisrt flight at IVAO, and i was making so much mistakes, I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only one. I think when you're getting used to it, it's a lot of fun flying online at IVAO/VATSIM. Grtzz

i just joined VATSIM a few days ago and i dont know what im doing.
powerpopisgnarly 4 years ago
That's how it starts. your best bet is to read through as much of the pilot resource center material as possible. It has great guides on what do to for your first flight. I used it exclusively for my first flight. Has transcripts on what to say, etc. But also just observe, my first week on VATSIM I didnt even get off the ground. I just sat on the tarmac trying to absorb ATC and the vocabulary. Also start small. I started with the default fs9 cessna and did a small trip. Now I'm flying 767s.
Stewker 4 years ago
VATSIM uses FS2004 and a program such as Squawkbox to connect to VATSIM's server so that you can fly with other flying enthusiasts and air traffic controllers
bulldozer246 4 years ago
You can also use FSX or X-Plane.
BrettVisionSLR 4 years ago
what is VATSIM. is it flight sim 2004?
xliver4 4 years ago
hi i joined VATSIM now and have had a few flights already and its fantastic....on sunday there is an event at vatsim UK called 'cross the pond' where we going from one of three u.s. airports including philadelphia to london heathrow-are you going to be at this please
BRADHblackdragon 4 years ago

thanks
BRADHblackdragon 4 years ago
yea, they tell you what sids to fly, and stars occasionally.
they vector you for ils approaches etc. you can get all charts from ais. just type it in on google
stayfly90 4 years ago

Australia clearance consists of
Clearance
Departure
Route
Runway
Altitude
Transponder
Frequency
And we dont give, Initial climb 5,000 climb FL310 10 mins after departure
pud1985 4 years ago
did you guys know that if your clearence does not deviate from your filed flight plan all you have to readback is your transponder code.
bikrtc 4 years ago
just to let you know, an easier mnemonic for clearance is C.R.A.F.T.S.:
Clearance
Route
Altitude
Frequency
Squawk

when u r on vatsim, do u half to use ur voice?
aolyahoo 5 years ago
Its more realistic and fun if you do, but you can still just type.
Coventelite 5 years ago
you don't, you can use your FS's chat window or your client's chat window to type, but like coventelite said, it's much more fun and realistic if you use voice. you can still use text at the same time use voice if you want.
sl8734 5 years ago
I've found that out, ive been flying on VATSIM for about 3 months now. Thanks for the info anyway!
aolyahoo 5 years ago

deltawing777 5 years ago
Ah, didn't see the edit..well then my mistake :)
bschott 5 years ago
A couple of points. When anthony read back his clearance, you stepped on the controller. You are supposed to wait until the controller says either "SPA 991, readback correct, Push and start at your discression. Contact me when ready to taxi" (since it was tower obviously ground and clearance were not online so there would be no need to switch freqs). The tower did the right thing and put you on request (kind of a slap on the hands)
bschott 5 years ago
Thanks for the comments. I did not step on. Controller had already acknowledged SPA991's readback. It just did not make it on the video. If you listen carefully, SPA991 is ready to taxi, this only happens after controller says read back correct.

Looks like the PMDG 737, thought it may be the Level-D Sim 767. I have both but have been flying GA and warbirds for the past few months on VATSIM so I am not sure.
bschott 5 years ago
Deftinatley PMDG 737, the 767 cockpit has a fixed layout with mostly analogue gauges and 2 screens on top of each other (ND and PFD), and also has a beige colouration instead of grey. New Gen 737's have screens side by side and only the Standby gauges are Analogue, cockpit primarily grey-blue colour.
