  • All the other arts I trained in I loved and Its true some people want more, but if you feel u need more on your quest then walk softly in that direction after you bow out at the Dojo door and you will always have friends if you ever return.

  • I also trained in JKD BJJ Vale Tudo & even Karate as a kid, non had for me the beautiful fountain in the spiritually rich garden that was filled with babbling water& peace. If u r training N Tomiki then train because u love.If u want to hurt people thin this is the wrong art. Tomiki made me stronger in BJJ because I understood little truths about movement flow, balance and joint manipulation.

  • The key thing missed with Tomiki is respect,Lots of people can't stand to see others enjoy their life's activities Tomiki is a soft style .Its enjoyed by many if people don't like this art then sadly its not for them. I love it because it teaches respect kindness to man kind.Where it helped me the most was mental focus and learning how to think flexible and flow around any threw problems in my life.

  • I think this video has an inestimable historical value, and very effective nowdays...

  • Tomiki is the proof that Aikido is not combat effective. You see that in a match the "defenders" have much more trouble executing a technique than in other Aikido styles. Can anyone explain this?

  • @FearThisChannel

A chosonninjer has the audacity to say "Aikido is not combat effective".

    Well that's just great.

  • @lupocephalic I don't understand what you mean.

  • @mauriteinsh what do you mean with "glad that I practice 'AIKiKAI AIKIDO'"? Except the fact that this video is OLD ... perhaps from 1930 ... it is exactly the same Aikido that is done in Aikikai in our days.

Don't mix up the Vidoe showin formal Kata with some fancy stuff you see in our days. The construction of the techniques, the foot work in that video is perfect and it is the same I would expect from my students ... and yes, I do Aikikai Honbu Dojo Aikido.

  • after to watch this video im very glad im practicing AIKIKAI AIKIDO the real thing and not this thing......(is not aikido is not judo is just something bad done in the middle

  • @mauriteinsh

    ???????

  • tomiki shihan was one of the best all time. this is what i mean about it doesn't any physical force. he was gentle yet always in control.

  • わわ! 富木先生、若いっ!

  • AMAZING VIDEO........thanks for posting it. I've studied and practiced Aikido for years until my dojo closed down. Yet I still try to practice a couple times a week on my own. There are so many levels to this martial art.

  • I used to practice this Aikido.

This videio makes me feel like practicing again!

  • A treasure!

  • @bigjasonstud if certain individuals were'nt out there attempting to do people harm they wouldn't have to worry about their arms and wrists being broken.

  • Very interesting video.

Thank you for posting it, even though mentionning only Tomiki and Ohba like "the most important people of Aikido history" isn't respectful for the others students (and I don't even think to O Sensei !).

  • I take yoshinkan, but this totally looks like it's worth checking out. We have a small group of Tomiki practitioners who train at our dojo. It's surprisingly different from other styles in terms of the basic movements, and based on that, the techniques. I'd like to be able to compare, and training in multiple styles could always help.

  • Great video. My father was a student of Tomiki in Japan back in 1969. He was in the Air Force and received his black belt from Tomiki. He has told me lots of great stories. Again great video.

  • That tai sabaki was beautiful

  • u cant hurt me with it, if you cant hit me,,u cant hurt me, if you throw a punch and them im not there, i have u at my mercy.

  • Lyoto Machida does just that and he defeated a lot of people in UFC

  • True, but as we are NOT even in the same continent it is impossible for us to make contact anyway.

The future of self-defense is to not leave the house and work from home, probably.

  • but these aspects also make it unpractical wiith our current laws. simply u will go to jail if you starts breaking ppls arms and wrists which is what traditional aikido is designed to do.tomiki style aikido is the only form of modern "self defense" - is literally has no punches or kicks and teaches how to effectively defend against those kinds of attacks as well as knife/gun attacks. if u cant draw ur gun or sword,,

  • i actually found tomiki style aikido to be the most fun to learn and pratise and the most effective defense to use on the street. its not as hard a style as the others, its the only modern style of aikido and the only style that incorperates competition as aikido originates from the samuri and is traditionally a very rigid and devestating art origionally used to replace swordplay in times of peace

  • 他背叛自己的老師還背離合氣道

    比賽合氣道者是叛徒

  • as a martial artist, Aikido has got to be the most fun to watch high 0_0

  • lol+

  • AIKIDO ...FOREVER

    =]

  • Priceless!

  • you are such a fucking idiot plain and simple.

  • Was thinking of actually writing something worth while here but it is obvious to me your not worth the effort.

  • with all respect, this are the first steps on learning aikido, which is balance, never to lose balance. like anything in life, the first thing are not the common or etc...

    but are the most important.

  • very good thank you for sharing

  • actually, tomiki sensei developed a modified version of aikido, where it could be used in competition, in order to make aikido into a sport... sooo, i wouldn't say he's one of the most important people in aikido, in the sense that he invented it or help develop it. he's actually really important when it comes into developing a system for it to become recognized as a sport or a way it could be judged for it to become a sport, as well as developing ways it could be practiced in order to train

  • Indeed, Tomiki Sensei's competitive Aikido was very much like Judo. As a former Judoka I was actually drawn into Aikido to further enhance my Judo game. Tomiki Sensei was also 9th Dan under Jigaro Kano in Judo. It is a fact that Tomiki was very loyal to both Ueshiba O'Sensei and Proffessor Kano. In reality though I found many Aikido practitioners frowned upon Tomiki's style a bit as he was "too hard and competitive". I disagree.

  • Was it called something different? Where can I get more info on this?

  • There is many differrent styles of Aikido, some consider themselves to be more of a hard style then others but this is usually meaning the way they train. For Tomiki Sensei's unique system of Aikido simply search for "Tomiki Aikido" or hook up with a Judo Sensei who is well traveled, my Judo Sensei is from eastern europe where they mix Judo training with Sambo, Wrestling, Jiujitsu and Aikido to improve their game. Many Aikido Masters actually game from Judo pasts (Sensei Maurayama).

  • @Mathewallison007

aikido changed alot since this film, partly due to Ueshiba changing alot. The techniques being shown (and the training method) are very much like aiki-jitsu (as of course aikido was originally).

  • @Mathewallison007 I did other arts such as boxing, wing chun and goju ryu, judo as a teenager. All had their uses....I have studied Tomiki's way of doing things and found them very effective..... Much more so than the so called traditional stuff you see now..... I have found that true Tomiki converts do develop strong body core and basics and real so called 'ki' without doubt..... That is I still practice it now for myself at 58 yrs , it has kept me strong, healthy and most of all effective.

  • buen video

  • Nice!

  • super!

  • Fascinating to see the early techniques before Miyaki Sensei helped re-organize them.

    Thank You!

  • Excellent video. Despite shomen uchi technique is different, Tomiki Sensei is really good. Every discipline changes in time and aikido is not the different. Because we do not know why or for whom this movie was taken, we can't understand the backround. Thank you for sharing!

  • very valuable! thanks!!!

  • very interesting, thank you for sharing!

  • otro que no se enteró

  • its just a simple way to start my friend!!!

  • The one's that want to control you to punch you do. The grab at the hands is the extreme. These are releases and can be done from a grab anywhere on the body. I can see how someone looking at this for the first time may not get the jist of what it is showing.

  • When i start pushing my fist toward someone's face, a lot of times their initial response is "I'm being punched, i need to grab this fist before it hits me." And from that response, you can go from there. In my dojo, we try not to wait for the uke to grab: we initiate that forces the uke to respond because they believe they are under attack. If they don't grab or block or make contact with that hand, it'll go ahead and strike them; if they do grab/block, technique follows.

  • @OneAngryAsian Difference is Go No Sen and Tai No Sen.

  • The ones that don't get punched do.

  • great footage, nice vid

    cheers mate

  • When you are awarded an 8th dan in aikido directly from the founder and an 8th dan in judo directly from the founder then come back and talk to us. Until that day your hardly qualified mate.

  • @tenshinage77 how is he/she supposed to do that?

does it really take two 8th degree black belts before you are allowed to speak about this matter?

great vid though and always liked tomiki's posture...essential for good budo ;)

  • @tenshinage77 maybe we all are under quailified to speak on it sence me or you are not NO DAN,and plus true AIKIDO theirs no stance.Plus i like this video old style of course if you pull something like this youll get knock the fuck out.Maybe you should check out Nishio Sensei he has developed better Aikido updated here if you think iam bullshit dowloaded yourself go pirateorg and get nishio sensei, MATE ( English man!)

  • Bunka177 = 0

  • Długi i nudny. Ale zajebisty! :)

  • do dupy

  • this is a good system. he knows what he's doing

  • excellent!

This is why I started in Tomiki Aikido

    Good video

  • This what I call classic.

  • This is Mr. Tomiki and Mr. Oba demontrating kata's from different sets. My uncle was a direct student of Mr. Tomiki and Mr.Oba while stationed in Japan in the l950's. He was one of the 1st to introduce aikido into the US according too the encyclopdia of aikido. Mr. Tomiki's style was based heavily on aikijujutsu utilizing strikes to vital points using ones hands, feet, elbows and knees. My uncle taught for close to 40 years. I'm honored to be his student.

  • Man, I wish I could roll like that. I could just watch that over and over again.

  • ???? What do you mean? :-)

  • The forward rolls by the uke is like water. I mean, many good judokas and aikidokas do, but I do not! One day, perhaps. :)

  • Yes, China... well spotted. This is a video of training _exercises_, and _kata_ (pre-set techniques). Tomiki-ryu aikido doesn't routinely use hakama as they tend to get in the way and cause accidentswhen doing competition. They are still worn for kata.

  • Tomiki took cues from judo. Too old fashioned maybe. But tomiki people use hakama when doing sword kata.

  • never heard that before!!!!!!!!!

  • ¡¡Excelente!! Un documento de valor incalculable para los amantes de las artes marciales japonesas. Espero que se conserve siempre en youtube. Por favor ¡¡no lo quiten!!

  • cool!!

  • This is good. One thing. it's Tomiki Aikido.

  • すごいビデオ、ありがとうございます。

  • cosa hai scritto?

  • Is great teacher.

  • This is pure nihon Jujutsu ..

  • awesome!

  • best AIKIDO vidoe ever!!!

  • 貴重な映像アップロードありがとうございます。

  • this is an excellent Video.. you can see the techniques and how they are done on both sides of the body

  • as a fever of martial art...no complaint but learning n never ending...yin (negative)....

    yan (positive) infinity..........

  • this is the most realistic portrayal of Aikido I've seen to date.

  • I use to think Aikido was bs too...I am a trained in JKD, TKD, and Chinese Gung Fu...had plenty of street brawls when young...had my ass wooped by a AikidoKa...I then took Aikido and it was my art of choice...do a you tube search for Hon Wong and watch "The Power of Your Mind" for my work now...

  • Fascinating video. To look around the art I study as Tomiki and to see it's evolution.

  • Congrats. Priceless material.

  • this guy has some pretty good dance moves in the beginning. i wonder what music the DJ was spinning

  • It's very interesting to see some of the changes that have been introduced to the demostration style.

The unsuku undo appears to be very lack-lustre compared to mdern times. And uke's tsuki attacks are very much more stylised.

Then, the koryu dai san steps right up and there is very little difference in 'level of commitment' to modern times.

Great clip, very well filmed and quite effective in showing the principles.

  • this is not Tomiki Kenji sensei he was never seen practising aikido without a hakama it was his rule

  • I can say this is definitely Tomiki sensei. I met him in Australia in 1977 with Shishida sensei and he certainly taught on the mat without hakama.

  • I wonder why then that the Hakama is not a part of Shodokan/Tomiki Aikido.

  • You're a fucking idiot. comparing apples and oranges.

What has martial arts to do with japanese food culture....????

  • Nice video, its hard to find videos of aikido these days. Which is a shame because its great fun to watch and practise (with all the flowy & spin-y-ness of it all). i don't suppose there was a section on atemi's was there, it would be fun to watch them all being performed. ^_^ or maybe some more foot work? seems to have missed some stuff out.

  • Great video. Very good look at unadulterated Aikido. Thx for the post.

  • Very good, some movements seems to some ancient judo katas.

  • very interesting! tnx!

  • Agree Jeffilopho. Very instructive tutorial. In Aikido you throw attackers and do arm locks all the time, so techniques are practiced in this slower tempo, with the attacker helping out a little.

Extremely lucid demonstration showing the basics and roots of aikido.

  • どうもありがとうございます。

  • どうもありがとうございます。

  • Best aikido video I have seen so far. You really see the practical use of it, not as in many other aikido vids. Very good. Five stars.

  • The demonstration has alot of Daitoryu techniques in it. Very intresting a great find.

  • Some good exercises to aikidokas from oversea... Nice video!! 5 stars too! =D

  • hes playing dance dance revolution at first lol

  • hopefully those who are going into martial art's can see this vid to somewhat summarize for their own benefit >.<

  • awesome!

  • thx for uploading

  • it Really interesting it good aikido

  • una reliquia de vídeo, 5 estrellas

  • Really interesting,a precious document of this style of aikido.5 stars,of course!

  • I think so. I want all aikido players to see this video. Thanks!
