The problem is that most gov regs aren't protecting the interests of the people, just the monopolies who contribute the most campaign funds. I think the issue is less about regulation and more about the level the regulation is happening at. My observation has been that republicans want the regulations at a more local level, while most democrats want it at a federal level.
There is a difference between government take over of healthcare and over developement of communities. Commie libs like to site non existant hypocracy. This guy is a moron.
Maybe this should be an argument for building private roads instead of regulations. Since government's monopoly on public roads had created the mess in the first place.
We're gonna have private roads at some point. At some point the choice becomes: Are we going to pay more in taxes for tolerable public roads, or are we going to outsource it to private industry - which will spend what IT wants to spend
In my opinion, it's the right wingers that want all kinds of government regulation. It's just that what they want regulated is their brand of morality...
The whole reason that the teabaggers get so much free publicity is that those paying for the publicity want regulations loosened for THEMSELVES. It is all about the property developers and banks and polluters and so forth...
Not only are your correct but I've found yet another twisted logic when it comes to the tea party crowd. The don't want entitlements for YOU but they are entitled to them themselves because they there. True story from a genuine tea bagger from Idaho.
As always food for thought. it's a shame more people aren't seriously thinking about government regulations rather than just parroting the Reagan pro corporate propaganda that Government is the problem. Maybe they should review what kind of government regulations we had fifty or so years ago when we had bill boards boasting the highest standard of living in the world....well, Reaganomics sure put paid to that claim...it's now highest standard of exploitation for big Corporations.
Interesting as always analysis of the teabag movement - which is definitely anything but consistent and in its present form it will not last - however what will it do to the political landscape in the meantime? And can it be hijacked to gain power by anyone dangerous?
Do you think a dangerous person could become the leader and figurehead of a political party that is based on frustration and resentment? Which, by the way, is primarily populated by the middle and lower classes? The western world hasn't ever seen that one before, have we?
"It Can't Happen Here" by Sinclair Lewis - just a thought
@jefevonQ - thank you for the heads up on the Sinclair Lewis piece - the evidence that parts of the constitution can be overridden in an emergency has been demonstrated so I have no doubts that someone could do it if the emergency was sufficiently devastating.
The Tea Party movement succeeds, which leads to a Palin presidential victory. The economy continues at a decreased level or falls further, with continued 1-3 theater warfare. Very expensive. Under either administration. The frustration grows. The left wing virtually disappears from the scene. She is either defeated by her own party, or is assassinated. Martyr. A more extreme administration steps in from wings.
Where does it go from there? We've seen this 'movie' before and it didn't end well.
It's going to skew the national political landscape. Particularly if the economy doesn't improve, which it won't. Job losses/overall unemployment rate is going to remain high and it's going to piss people off, and that's gonna be fertile ground for the Republicans.
They have to be put on the spot - really, how would you govern. Because at this point, "something different" is not sufficient - there are problems that need to be solved, and as we've seen, "change" hasn't really solved them...
@gsmartremarks - It is so true that it is easy criticise and say "outrage" but what is behind the "outrage" is often coming from different angles and often contradictory things.
The question is definitely whether the US's political system can withstand the shifting sands of government and incorporate these people in the system.
Regularize the irregulars - though in the past that usually involves shooting the irregulars - who become a liablity.
The thing is that these teabaggers have legitimate economic complaints; the deindustrialization of the country, the switch to service/finance economy has led to a real decline in people's standards of living, education becomes more of a necessity but not everyone's going to get a college degree, nor can everyone afford it... they're being left behind. They feel it; it's happening. But the reason they're being spoon-fed is that it's all government's fault - all liberalism's fault. Just not true.
@gsmartremarks Indeed - many of the complainers / victims of the changing economic conditions both short and long term - would be very much worse off under a small-government / fend for yourself model - but seem unaware of this.
The health care protests - which were really about the feeling of being unempowered where often most vigorously supported by those on medicare.
I realise that there is a cultural element to the government is the problem idea but where is it coming from at the moment?
Yes perhaps they have legitimate complaints but i doubt very many of the teabaggers themselves are motivated by those complaints. A great, great many of them are motivated because they don't like a black man, they don't like democrats, they don't like their invented strawman version of an Islamic president, in fact. They pretty much don't like a lot of things before they get down to anything remotely politics. The legitimate complaints they have are not the first and foremost thing going on.
Actually even after getting my B.A. and A.A. I find it harder to actually become employed. In my opinion I think it is the workplace that is broken. It is much harder to actually hire people because of the incredibly high standards set by human resources and the unwillingness to train new employees.
Also the cult of exceptionalism is affecting the young from becoming employed because we have to learn to advertise our accomplishments instead of demonstrating that we can do the job.
Worst yet, a good majority of the young aren't honor students or were able to get involved in clubs. Or employers or volunteering only offer basic petty tasks and typing that information on a resume and cover letter to employers is more of a turn off than a turn on.
While there are plenty of customer service jobs available those jobs don't enable the young to actually become self supportive and normally have to take multiple jobs which hurts our job market.
Worst yet for the young is that since people like myself who are educated but are incapable of finding self supportive employment are now relying on our parents for longer periods of time which is a major disadvantage. Which is damaging to both generations.
The young aren't saving money for retirement and the parents aren't able to save as much money because they have to support their kids in their late 20's and 30's.
Basically I'd say the workplace is leaving everyone else behind...
Because in the name of equality we are forgetting what is most important to having a society work to be equal, which is people.
The workplace no longer values those who get a B.A. in history but are required for basic employment to get a PHD. Experience for applying now trumps actual education which encourages employers to say no rather than yes. And service jobs don't offer the same hard accomplishments compared to crafting jobs where people can show physical accomplishments.
This leaves employers to either tell the young who got their degrees to start at the same level of those who graduated high school. Or pursue their education even more and hope that someone will actually put value into their degree because there isn't any higher degree to get.

I've spent some time debating TPers here on YT. None seem to really have a grasp of what they're pissed about. But they are pissed off.
One equated taoist philosophy with TP/libertarian ideology. Another spouted John Birch contradictions. None were logical.
Mostly, I see them as deranged anacrhists. As serpents attempting to devour their tails.
