@gumguy25 Fact A Eddie Shore is one of the best players ever. Fact B your missing my point Datsyuk is a TWO WAY FORWARD no shit he doesn't get the most points since he's A TWO WAY FORWARD that's his job get points and stop goals and lidstrom is a DEFENCEMANhis job isn't primarily to get points it is to defend the fact he is so good offensively as well is incredible. Fact C hockey is not just about being physical Datsyuk is physical when he needs to be he even got a Gordie how hatrick /thread
@gymguy25Lidstrom was key to 4 Stanley cups .Datsyuk is a two way forward he gets over a point a game. Thorton is a power forward one of the best in the league. But Datsyuk is offensive and defensive. Without Lidstrom and Datsyuk detroit wouldn't have won the cup in 2008 they are key players to the wings. Datsyuk doesn't need to gett 100 point seasons because he is a two player he helps OFFENSIVELY and DEFENSIVELY . LIdstrom is a better defenceman than Bourque POINTS DON'T MEAN EVERYTHING.
@skullmastor13 Fact A: Lidstrom and Datsyuk had much better teammates than Bourque and Thornton Fact B: still, Bourque and Thornton heavily outscored Lidstrom and Datsyuk, Fact C: Not only did they score more points, Bourque and Thornton were tough and physical, can't say the same about Lidstrom and Datsyuk. For those reasons, you'll never convince me that Bourque and Thornton weren't better. Also, did you know d-man Eddie Shore had 4 Hart trophies? (only Gretzky and Howe won more)

@happyninslave ok that is a big misconception.... Coffey was called a Defenseman, but he was more of a 4th forward for whoever he played for. There is a reason he isn't mentioned up there with orr, bourque, harvey, potvin, or lidstrom by true hockey enthusiasts. He was HORRIBLE defensively.Yes he put up crazy numbers, but Bourque has all the defenseman career scoring records(G, A, Pts.) AND he was one of the best defensively to ever play. Please dont put those 2 in the same category.
the BEST D MAN EVER played hockey and NO ONE will beat him! final dot(hes from quebec! my country!) GO BOURQUE,ROY,LEMIEUX, BRODEUR THEY WILL LIVE FOR EVER!
You should have shown him first hoisting the cup. That was really emotional, and when Sakic handed the cup to Ray before he even skated it himself...just amazing.
the only thingmore amazing than his skill, was his heart. He had so much respect for the game, his teammates, and even his opponents. A true class act and nobody wasmore deserving of a cup than Ray
my favorite player, he had it all, not only was he amazing offensively but he was also one of the greatest defensive dman ever too...nobody in the game today even comes close to ray
Orr was the greatest player of all time but Bourque although not much of a highlight reel guy was the most sound defensemen ever.. not sure who our best defensemen is now but would love to see Neely hoist the Cup that would complete everything
@insanum666 You are probably right, all he did between the year 70 and 75 was 520 passes for an 87 average/year. Talk about a player thinking just about himself....not a team player at all.

@skullmastor13 I used to think Habs fans were the most biased fans in hockey, but in the last few weeks, I heard that Pavel Datsyuk was better than Joe Thornton and that Nicklas Lidstrom was the 2nd greatest defenseman of all-time, Habs fans, I must apologize, Red Wings fans are much worse than you are!
@gymguy25 Datsyuk is better than Thornton who has more stanley cups and Datsyuk is a two way forward. Thorton exept for the 2011 playoffs has not played well in the post season. Lidstrom has 7 James Norris Borque has 5. Don't know about your math but 7>5. Lidstrom has more stanley cups 4>1 and a Conn Smythe. I'm a Red Wings fan but I'm not biased I speak the truth If Borque of Thorton was better I would say it. Lidstrom has more stanley cups and Norris. Facts are facts.
@skullmastor13 a guy named Claude Provost won 9 Cups with the Habs, Gretzky only won 4, by your logic, Provost was better than Gretzky. Winning the Cup is a team effort, Lidstrom and Datsyuk were lucky to have had teams full of stars their whole careers. Remove Thornton and Bourque from their teams and they'd have been lucky to make the playoffs (except Bourque's 1.5 years in Colorado). Despite this, Thornton has three 100 pt seasons, Datsyuk 0 and Bourque has 1579 pts, Lidstrom 1131.
Lidstrom has more Norris' and Smythes hence how good he is on the team. Points don't mean your the best defenceman. Doug Harvey is one of the top 3 best defenceman ever and he doesn't score alot of points. IMO top three defencman ever 1. Orr 2. Lidstrom. 3. Harvey
how can u argue he isnt the 2nd best defenceman ever(behind orr obviously)......first team all star as a rookie, and also first team all star in his final season 21 years later, that is unreal and unmatched by any other athlete of any sport....and played in the all star game EVERY SINGLE season he ever played
oh hell yes. With Orr and Oates' playmaking skills, all Espo woulda had to do was just park it in front and he would get 200 goals in a single season if such a thing could have happened. Such a line would probably be so dominant, the NHL would have had to force the Bruins to split it up,
20+ years patrolling NHL Blue Lines against the other team's First line---game in game out. In his last season he lead the league in ice time. Amazing.
I"m a Bruins fan - born and live in Boston. Ray is easily the second best defenseman to ever play the game. The best player ever? No. That's crazy talk. Top 5? Yes.
i got to meet ray a few times, i went to school with his son chris(33rd overall pick of the washington capitals in the 2004 draft)and he volunteered his time to help coach the team, hes a total class act. I know u ranger fans wish u got him but he was far too great and classy to ever play for you
its ok i totally understand you rangers fans have absolutely no class and have to resort to talking shit over the internet its cool man i honestly feel bad for you. please kill yourself
Ray Bourque is my all time favorite player. I watched him play for the B's from the time I was young. To me, he and Cam Neely define what it means to be a Boston Bruin. I say this b/c I wasn't around for the Orr/Esposito era, so Bourque to me is the man.
watch for his son chris, drafted by the capitals, he doesnt have his dads size but he has all his passion and skill. he is 5'8 but he will take on zdeno chara in a heartbeat
dome1972, he stayed for 20 years!, gave everything he had for us i guess your not from boston, we love him so much here we gave him a stanley cup parade, he was such a great bruin the people in boston felt like they had just won the cup
dome1972- To call Ray Bourque arrogant is truly ignorant. The management of the Bruins has been sticking it up yours and every other fan for decades.Walking away from a perpetual ass fucking is not arrogant in my book.Just smart.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Let's examine the facts. Ray gave up on the city and the B's when he started to make noises about being moved before the trade-deadline. Why did he do this? He was not ready to take a lesser role and thus was ready to wash his hands of the Bruins and the city that loved him. Sadly, his arrogance went one step farther when he brought the cup back to Boston in one of the biggest "up yours" moments of all time. In doing so he disrespected every player that wore or will wear the black and gold.
dome is a fukin retard. he wanted a cup so fucking wat, give the guy a break and when your the best defenseman EVER isnt hard to not get the limelight.
and you just assumed that they are rocking it because of Bourque?? I mean I have alot of respect for Bourque and I know he's a legend but.... what about Paul Coffey??
Pierre Turgeon?? they both were amazing players in their own rights, and I bet not all of the players who are "rocking" 77 today are doing so to Bourque's honor.
LOL I could see that your a die hard Bourque fan. but for you to say Coffey "SUCK".... I mean he has the higher points per game average than Bourque, and I know Coffey played with better players through out his career, but he sure does not SUCK.
When he carried Normand Leveille around the ice may be one of the most touching moments in sports. Second best d-man ever....and while that may sound like an insult, being second to Bobby Orr aint to bad in my book.
No star owns every single moments that takes place in his presence. During the 87 Canada Cup Gretzky and Mario Lemieux put on a show that was truly dazzeling. It was one of the greatest displays the game has ever seen. Although Grezky was just as much THE story as Lemieux he allowed Lemieux to take the centre stage. This is known as the moment when Lemieux began to realize the promise of his vast skillset. However, it was Grezky's humility that allowed the moment to take place.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I question whether Ray would have ever allowed that to happen in his presence. I know that he never let anyone on the B's or in his international career take the spotlight. Every moment Ray was on the ice was a moment for Ray to hold centre court. He did it with Lacomb, Espo and Reggie Lemiline. Not to mention all the blue liners he played with. He seemed unable to make a little room for players like Wesley, Iafrate, Sweeny and Kluzak. If he had, things in Boston may have been different.
One thing that always chokes me up is Joe Sakic, as the Avs Captain, handing the cup right to Ray after being presented withit, instead of skating it himself first. "And after twenty-two years, RAYMOND BOURQUE!"
I was a Indo-Canaidian Habs Fan growing up, however out of all the tough all round players, Bourque was CLASS. He played clean, hit and fought clean. When he fought, he would take of his face visor, to give a fair advantage to the opposing fighter. Thats class and thats leadership. Any player would follow a leader like him.
To me and many others, he is one of the Greatest. Hats of Bourque for giving us great hockey memories.
Great video. Great player and a class act. The Esposito scene still gets me choked up. Was fortunate to see him pay in person many times. The rock of those Bruin teams as he would log 35 minutes a game in his prime.
Yeah, I don't understand how anybody could not love the guy. I also doubt that there is a single fan of Bruins that was angry at him when he left to win the cup with Avs either. He is a true hero and a hockey legend.
One of the greatest to ever put on a uniform, one of, if not the most deserving of a Stanley Cup, and certainly the most humble player to ever play the game.
i think the most impressive achievement is the man with the most minutes played on a professional hockey rink. he used to play the entire game on many occasions. no one else will break his record. he is a mold that has been broken. not made for mass production. ciao raymond.
I admired this guy growing up. Not just for his on ice accomplishments but also what he did off the ice. He contributed so much time to the local charities in the greater Boston area. He is a class act.

stevieray351 3 years ago 2
by the way thank you cptjrkov, ray earned every second that he was in the limelight
stevieray351 3 years ago
dome1972, he stayed for 20 years!, gave everything he had for us i guess your not from boston, we love him so much here we gave him a stanley cup parade, he was such a great bruin the people in boston felt like they had just won the cup
stevieray351 3 years ago
dome1972- To call Ray Bourque arrogant is truly ignorant. The management of the Bruins has been sticking it up yours and every other fan for decades.Walking away from a perpetual ass fucking is not arrogant in my book.Just smart.

How could you not like Ray??????
it's not possible!

In doing so he disrespected every player that wore or will wear the black and gold.
dome1972 3 years ago
dome is a fukin retard. he wanted a cup so fucking wat, give the guy a break and when your the best defenseman EVER isnt hard to not get the limelight.

look this up to see little bourque in action...HERSHEY BEARS vs. Hamilton Bulldogs 3/29/08

stevieray351 3 years ago
At 2:30, Raymond Bourque with the victory!!!! I play it over and over.
EddieRadil 3 years ago
i saw at least 7 players in the Nhl today
who rock the number 77 jersey!
BOURQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!
cptjrkov 3 years ago
and you just assumed that they are rocking it because of Bourque?? I mean I have alot of respect for Bourque and I know he's a legend but.... what about Paul Coffey??
Pierre Turgeon?? they both were amazing players in their own rights, and I bet not all of the players who are "rocking" 77 today are doing so to Bourque's honor.
again, dont get me wrong, I know Ray was great.
supajapp 3 years ago
they play defense
& coffey was fast that's all he sucked!
cptjrkov 3 years ago
LOL I could see that your a die hard Bourque fan. but for you to say Coffey "SUCK".... I mean he has the higher points per game average than Bourque, and I know Coffey played with better players through out his career, but he sure does not SUCK.
supajapp 3 years ago
one of the NHL's best ever go Bruins go!
ironfistofbeer14 3 years ago 2
notice how loads of d-men wear # 77
nowadays
& it aint cuz of coffey ! lol
cptjrkov 3 years ago 3
that's awesome when he crosses his chest & blesses the 9/11 ribbon
Bourque is # 77 which is better than # 1 lol
cptjrkov 3 years ago
When he carried Normand Leveille around the ice may be one of the most touching moments in sports. Second best d-man ever....and while that may sound like an insult, being second to Bobby Orr aint to bad in my book.
cjl3100 3 years ago
Yup, again, the moment had to be all about Ray. That prima donna couldn't let anyone have a moment without him stealing a little of the limelight.
dome1972 3 years ago
Dome - you are a fucking mullet-head, inbred faggot
MidnightRambler444 3 years ago
WHAT!!!!
he payed his dues for 22 years & you call that "stealing" the limelight
IT"S EARNING THE LIMELIGHT!!!!! BITCH!
cptjrkov 3 years ago
No star owns every single moments that takes place in his presence. During the 87 Canada Cup Gretzky and Mario Lemieux put on a show that was truly dazzeling. It was one of the greatest displays the game has ever seen. Although Grezky was just as much THE story as Lemieux he allowed Lemieux to take the centre stage. This is known as the moment when Lemieux began to realize the promise of his vast skillset. However, it was Grezky's humility that allowed the moment to take place.

"And after twenty-two years, RAYMOND BOURQUE!"
jackroyfan33 3 years ago 3
I was a Indo-Canaidian Habs Fan growing up, however out of all the tough all round players, Bourque was CLASS. He played clean, hit and fought clean. When he fought, he would take of his face visor, to give a fair advantage to the opposing fighter. Thats class and thats leadership. Any player would follow a leader like him.
To me and many others, he is one of the Greatest. Hats of Bourque for giving us great hockey memories.
PARAG4UNITY 3 years ago
Great video. Great player and a class act. The Esposito scene still gets me choked up. Was fortunate to see him pay in person many times. The rock of those Bruin teams as he would log 35 minutes a game in his prime.

drthmstrbtr 4 years ago
Yeah, but would you want people to think you were trading off your old man's legend? Nah, better to make your own. Go, Av's!
CelticLady44 3 years ago
Yeah, I don't understand how anybody could not love the guy. I also doubt that there is a single fan of Bruins that was angry at him when he left to win the cup with Avs either. He is a true hero and a hockey legend.
larsmark 4 years ago 2

One of the greatest to ever put on a uniform, one of, if not the most deserving of a Stanley Cup, and certainly the most humble player to ever play the game.
Ray Bourque is a god in his own right
YoungMielke 4 years ago
One of the greatest players ever and also a classy guy. He still teaches high school kids in the New England area.
Luftwaffel 4 years ago
If the Espo comment made my eyes "damp", teh Gardens last Hurrah scene with Leveille caused a "flood".
You are the reason I proubly wear #77 every Sunday nights!
Merci Raymond!
demdem69 4 years ago 2
one record i thinks amazing is he was a first team all star as a rookie, and first team in his final season 21 years later
stevieray351 4 years ago
i think the most impressive achievement is the man with the most minutes played on a professional hockey rink. he used to play the entire game on many occasions. no one else will break his record. he is a mold that has been broken. not made for mass production. ciao raymond.

nobody better but bobby orr

I admired this guy growing up. Not just for his on ice accomplishments but also what he did off the ice. He contributed so much time to the local charities in the greater Boston area. He is a class act.
