As a Japanese grew up there, Nikka whisky sounds very cheap to me. In fact, I didn't know they were stil in the business. Then again, I don't drink whisky and have no knowledge of it.
It was quite a surprise it got the recognition.from the people who know what they are talking about.
yup i have been there three times .. black nikka was the source of many of my hangovers.. keep those reports comin ! (i am soooooo shattered that i couldn't make it to Niseko 2008..my feet is itchin for that konoyuki !!!!!!!!!

I haven't been at the Nikka distillery so far. But I visited the Yamazki distillery. It was very interesting.
By the way the Yamazaki distillery was founded 1923 by Shinjiro Toori, which makes it the first whisky distillery in Japan and not Nikka.
