Whats sad is that the use of private contractors in this type of conflict in iraq and afganistan is actually sound and makes sense but it seems the execution is off. Whats sad is that the use of private contractors in this type of conflict in iraq and afganistan is actually sound and makes sense but it seems the execution is off. I think blackwater expanded too quickly and made compromises with their quality in order to fufill their contract requirements. Maybe they should have vetted their operators more cafefully.

Scahill is well informed on Blackwater, but if a private or government entity makes the choice to hire private military contractors (in this case Blackwater) and grant impunity, then it is their purogative. If that contract comes with an excessive pricetag, what is not being considered in this interview is the loss/liabilities that the private company incurs on every contract (bodies, equipment, ect). There is no insurance for a Blackwater mercenary. Their risks are as great if not more.

@ballsopt, u.s. soldiers fight for their country and to ensure the safety of it's citizens. their fight is a noble and honorable one. blackwater mercenaries on the other hand fight purely for a paycheck there is no pride, honor, or glory involved because they do not serve the u.s.. why do these mercenaries protect u.s. diplomats instead of u.s. soldiers? well i have no clue.

@certifiedchillin420 PMCs arnt mercs they are strictly defensive. And it cost roughly 700k a year to have just one soldier deployed (due to needed support elements, training, pensions, gi bills, clothing, weapons, etc..). So PMCs actually save the US a great deal of money.

Reasons Why Blackwater is needed.
1. They can immediately supply the needed manpower to maintain the Military Supremacy of the US
2. The enemy of the US is using guerilla tactics which is really underhanded but effective. In Boxing, it's like the Taliban is keeps on hitting low blows and the US military is bound to fight fair. Who would win?
3. To counter a guerilla, you need need to think and act like a guerilla to keep US troop alive without incriminating the US government .

@uod20081 Wrong, wrong and wrong again.The U.S. Military can train a soldier in as little as eight weeks.Using mercenaries is absurd and taxpayers are being taken to the cleaners while corporations rake in huge profits. Mercenaries are about profit for the corporations and nothing else. We lost Viet Nam to the same tactics, I guess the U.S. hasn't learned it's lesson yet, it will. "Without incriminating the U.S. government" must mean using torture and indiscriminate murder. We lose again.

@agitcam - Yes U.S. can train as little as 8 weeks but I am also aware that recruitment to military is declining. I also read in an article that a military officer stated that recruits today are smarter but physically weaker. They are now more inquisitive who have questions on every detail which very much a problem for such a very structured organization especially during missions. I'm not saying it is bad or good, I'm just speculating reasons on hiring Mercs. Viet won coz home court advantage=)

He is committed to peace and ending the U.S. warmongering which is a major component of the economic depression we are in. The use of mercenaries like Blackwater is a symbol of America's decline. Time and time again countries who have resorted to using mercenaries have rued the day they first hired them. Mr. horse-dip Prince is now living in Abu Dhabi where he can't be extradited for his crimes.

I can tell you from military back ground this group is nothing but clowns, and rejects. They make me laugh, it's circus act, and former leader was master clown. He's also a coward. Ok yeah, there are only some incidents at which black water acted out of context. But for the most part their doing good work. Yes they are paid more than regular soldiers because they are put into more action than regular troops. The US doesn't want to get its hand dirty and have the public hate them when a US soldier gets killed. Innocent people died in 911 and our troops had to be sent there to destroy the root of terrorism however there was not enough hence we need mercs.
