  • You know, before society became so obsessed with homosexuality, (or homophobia), kiss on lips in western culltures was considered a sign of fondness between close relatives.

  • The only thing I don't like about Garbo is her treatment of Mercedes de Acosta. But then, the latter was head-over-heels for her...quite a stormy relationship really. But then who wouldn't fall in love with THE glamorous Greta Garbo? ;)

  • @andallthatjazzify She has always avoided publicity. If a friend provided information about her to the press was immediately erased from among her friends. Was no exception. She was obsessed with protection of privacy. And this should be accepted. One who betrayed you is no longer your friend. Garbo was coherent for a lifetime.

  • I'm in love with Greta Gerbo and her absolutely delicious Swedish accent.

  • Could you give an other title to your vid. You know, these are not lesbian kisses. Do not damage anyone who is unable to defend herself!

  • Garbo is dashing. I'm in love with that voice!

  • Her costumes in the film also imply bisexuality. She wears both formal gowns and Masculine Hats and breaches. This is how the costume designer adds to the scene.

  • Remember, back then movies had to communicate sexuality through implication. If you watch the whole film and read between the lines, Garbo's character is clearly bisexual. And so is her true love, a man. After all, when he falls in love with her, he thinks that she's male! The movie's pretty much about Garbo being so incredibly sexy that everyone wants to bed her, no matter what gender they are or what gender they think she is. It's a pretty sophisticated take on gender and sexuality.

  • Uhh... I don't think that was a peck on the lips... :) Lol, I forgot how this movie went.

  • Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh, vintage rainbows :3

  • Mädchen in Uniform was the first lesbian film. It was made in Germany circa 1931 and subsequently banned thereafter until the end of the war. It features the first kiss in lesbian context ever filmed on screen.

  • Great movie, and at least partly historical; Queen Christina really did abdicate, because she preferred scholarship to ruling. One of Garbo's best roles.

  • ay dios mio que chonga xdd pero muyyyy sexy wow

  • Don't you just hate the girl who kisses Garbo.

  • @sanjac07 SO much

  • 1:15 LOOK AT HER GUSH! CUTEEEEE :3

  • Better than men? Yeah right.

  • one kiss .. but 3 .. oooweee

  • C. Aubrey Smith, one of my favorite actors.

His best role was the priest in the old B&W film

    "The Hurricane" with Raymond Massey,

    Dorothy Lamour & Jon Hall.

  • I don't mean anything by it, but just to put my two cents in, I've seen a few movies that were made between the 1920's-1950's which included quick pecks on the lips between women. The characters were usually close relatives or friends. (In the movie 'Little Women' with Katharine Hepburn, when her character 'Jo' kisses her mother good night in one scene, the mother kisses Jo on the mouth, but like I said, it was more of a peck.) I just see it as feminine affection, nothing else. ^_^

  • @CxHxRxIxSxTxIxAxN Everyone kiss mommy and dad in the lips, that's normal!

  • @CherieKid nope, I see that more as an american thing. That to me is NOT normal!

  • @CxHxRxIxSxTxIxAxN But queen Christian was actually a Lesbian...:)

  • @thatcher88 LOL well yes, I got that part. I was just refering to the fact that a straight woman kissing another straight woman isn't all that uncommon either. I mean I know a lot of ladies like to "experiment" with other women sometimes LOL But I was thinking that sometimes it's just affection (mother kissing child, friend kissing friend etc. . .just natural female affection. It's what makes us better than men ^_^

    *ducks flying objects*

  • @CxHxRxIxSxTxIxAxN You have to pay attention to the dialogue...not just the kiss.

  • whAT'S THE NAME OF THE MOVIE?

  • @luis3021 Queen Christina

  • shes cool ://0 *shyes away*

  • that was a kiss? i thought it was a peck lol

  • OOOOPA!!!

    QUE MARAVILHA!!!!

  • I loved these scenes but when Greta said "Sweetie"...I cringed. It was like a thud, listen to it closely while watching the segment as a whole. Yuck!

  • @1stbrasscaptain

actually, what the Queen called Ebba was 'Little Sweden.' Sweetie would definitely sound weird in a period film. LOL

  • @petezeek Oh, thank goodness...that's what she said. Thank you for informing me. Now the cringe has disintegrated into nothingness. ^_^

  • love the kiss verry gentle

  • I believe, if I am not mistaken that is, that during this movie, they filmed a scene where Garbo is either getting a thigh massage or she is giving one to another actress and they cut it out after Louis B. Mayer saw the rushes and said, "We're not making a lez film here!!!" So if ya think about it, there probably was ALOT of beautiful lesbian scenes between actresses that Louis B. Mayer cut out!!! Bull Sh*t I say on old Hollywood censorship lol

  • @MissGarland20 Amen! Actually, what you've described it entirely new to me! Louis B .Mayer was a complete Prick- Garbo couldn't stand him, especially his apparent insensitivity during her periods of loss (death of mother, Stiller the director who discovered her etc). Tallulah Bankhead hated him too. But yes, that stupid Hayes code- I'll never understand any organization who think they can dictate sexuality morality to the rest of us. Thank God it was eventually struck down!!!

  • Indeed he was, he was all about the money. Power hungry males running the movie world back then. It's really lame to think about what we missed seeing today in these old films, what amazing scenes that were cut because of no freedom of expression. When it comes right down to it almost every man and woman was experimenting with each other. It's just the facts of old Hollywood!!! I wouldn't be surprised of old Louis had some unexpressed male love for Jack Warner!!! =D

  • Lesbian Kiss? I suppose if she gave a little peck in the head of a dog or cat you'd call that beastiality.

  • I read a bio of Queen Christina some years ago, and when I finally saw this movie I was delighted to see that it apparently reflects the same relationship that the book mentioned. She had a very close relationship with this Countess, with many PDAs (Public Displays of Affection) that were the talk of the court.

Whooo boy - love to have been that actress!

  • Most beautiful woman ever lived !!! Wish it was me who she kissed :-(

  • Garbo talks! and kiss to! XD wonderful.

  • Always ask myself when will we see another Garbo, but sadly always get the same response, not in this lifetime, so true! Like Crawford, i would do an exception with her and go totally lesbic just for Garbo!

  • Greta was a bi-sexual girl. A great woman!

  • Fitting role for Garbo! Queen Christina and Garbo were both powerful women who refused to marry men for very similar reasons...and I can only imagine how awful it must've been to be a member of the LGBT community back then, no matter who you were...I mean, we're still struggling even today to simply live without as much bullshit in our lives as possible! Oh, no! Am I complaining?!? Yet, again?!?

  • I'm a straight woman and Garbo could convert me in a second!

  • Oh God Greta Garbo...Joan Crawford loved her and I can see why...Joan said that when they were making Grand Hotel, that Garbo and her met on a staricase and Garbo took Joan's face in her hands and said, in that delicious accent, "Ohh...I wish we could spend more time together." And then walked away. Joan said, "If there was ahytime in my life I would have went full blown lesbian, that was it..."

  • Jealousy! My heart just skipped a bit. (Damn the hat for censoring the last one!! Well I suppose I can dream, yes?)

  • God I Love Her *____*

  • It seems Garbo was a good horse rider too. The scenes of her on horseback are obviously genuine and not done by a stuntwoman.

  • what a kisser she vas!!

  • o boy I love this woman!!

  • This was MGM's answer to Paramount; - 3 years earlier w/Dietrich in Morocco.

  • Garbo could get away with almost everything during that time, she was after all the Goddess!!When they gave her a hard time, she used the same lines..Im going back home!..next you knew it..always got away with it and more! Love her!

  • Oh and where does everyone think Greta kissed the Countess in the scene with the big hats? I think her neck hahah.

  • Goodbye Sweetie XD!!!! Get it Greta, Get it girl! LOL

  • @DiabolicalAngel I think Garbo says "Goodbye Sweden", as she has just abdicated and is about to leave. However, she probably also said "Goodbye sweetie" as you suggest.!

  • @pauline5248 hahah! Both would make sense considering the context of the scene I suppose. But theres no doubt she and Countess Ebba have something going on...no way around that.

  • Agreed. History confirms that as well.

  • @pauline5248 Yes and considering the era, this movie is quite forward about it. Greta kisses her several times, talks about running away to the country I mean come on you're blind if you cannot see the lesbian undertones in this film. I believe Greta's real life alleged lover, Mercedes de Acosta had had some part in the creation of this film..if not the creation then perhaps the concept. She was also an out and proud lesbian. :)

  • @DiabolicalAngel Salka Viertel, who wrote the screenplay for "Queen Christina", was another alleged early lover of Garbo's. But unlike DeAcosta, Garbo remained lifelong friends with Viertel.

  • oh man. her accent is so sexy.

and i am so freakin' jealous of that actress who got to kiss her!!

AND i'm wondering how on earth this scene slipped by the hays office! I mean, these two are so obviously involved!

  • I dont think the code was enforced yet. The code was so stupid in the first place...who is anyone to dictate morality anyway.

And yeah you're right, Christina and Countess Ebba were involved, but Greta got away with it because like Dietrich in Morocco, she was dressed like a man. Its dumb I know, but that was the logic back then.

  • wasn't 1933 the year it was starting to get enforced? like with mae west and all?

  • Actually you might be right, but the director of this film (Maumolian I think his name was) insisted on keeping this in this film. But Dietrich was doing Blonde Venus around this time, which features nudity and that was not censored. The directors were just clever I suppose. Maybe Greta liked wearing pants in films so that she could get away with kissing women in them hahah.

  • I'm so jealous too!

  • Is she playing a woman disguised as a man???

  • Queen Christina in life was bisexual and Greta wanted to be able to cross dress :)

  • That really was a very sexy kiss. Is this the movie where Christina says- "I will die a Bachelor!"

I love Greta's accent. SOO beautiful.

  • yes, it's my favorite quote!

  • i want that kiss!!!!!!!!

  • Get in line! I'm first!!

  • jajjaja....i'm gonna have it firs!

  • well...she's dead so i don't want to kiss her now, just when i die :P

  • Shes also cremated XD!!

  • take a number! lol!

  • In this movie it's explicit they have an affair, that's not about Greta, it's about Christina. But I put that video to show how this kisses are advanced to 1939.

  • @CherieKid

    Did BJ advanced to 1939?
