@Blightning288 yeah I know it now but when finnish rock radio played it for the first time I wasn't sure with this back then with only that one listening ;)
the reason they had stanne as a guest was simply because at that time, insomnium were touring in support of Dark Tranquility. The bands bonded, and wanted to do something together, simple.
What does doing tours together and celebrating together have to do with a bond in terms of a song or music style? That's like saying Nevermore is good because it has Jeff Loomis in it while clearly Jeff Loomis makes better music alone.
Influences are different, surpassing those influences is a whole different story.
The only time Insomnium & DT have shared a bond was that song, other than that, they are 2 very different bands with very different approaches. Insomnium tends to expand more with their music, while DT just makes simple structured songs with same riff formula recycled over and over. The only superiority DT has is that they were the 1st in the melo-death genre, other than that, they have nothing on Insomnium.
Insomnium shares a bond with no one, it is a monument of its own.
I fail to see how it's one of their best. And it takes no rocket science to figure out that the song was a recycled reject of their most basic elements.
A great vocalist that they could've used was the guy from Opeth (if they were aiming for fame amongst current CM-Records fanbase), otherwise, Mikko from Swallow The Sun or Jukka from Omnium Gatherum could've most definitely handled the duties well. But DT's Mikael's vocals are very weak, not suited for Insomnium at all.
you must be on something. Weather The Storm sucked. They didn't put much into it. It sounded like they just had to do a cover with Mikael so they can get well-known since they'd just signed with CM-records back then and wanted to get a larger fan base before the tour started. I sure hope that track doesn't make it on the next album. It was their ONLY bad track, a mere generic mash up of the typical Insomnium style of riffage. 1/2
@taxi911 While I do agree about WTS its a still a decent track. Sub-par by Insomnium standards but still decent. I do think CM pushed them a bit so they can get know before the tour and everything. Niilo devoured Stanne, that is true. But Stanne fits well with DT. As for DT recycling I don't feel it that way. DT are just the gothenburg type of melodeath while Insomnium are the Finnish school.
oh yeah man,, Stanne definitely fits DT, just not the person to be in Insomnium, not taking away anything from him - but within Insomnium, he is definitely weak.
Honestly, Insomnium has evolved from album to album, their sound has constantly changed. DT has shown very little change, except for their 1st album(s).
@taxi911 I disagree with you. DT has changed a lot over the years, but they are still pure melodeath unlike IF with their new radioshit. Haven and Projector are so different from The Gallery or Fiction. And Character and Damage Done have different sound too. Insomnium hasn't evolved that much in my opinion. Riffs and atmosphere are often the same.
Don't get me wrong Insomnium is my favourite band (along with DT). They simple don't need to change that much because their music is almost perfect.
The gallery probably sounds different because it was around when Melodic Death was in it's early stages when all these boys were having themselves a good old wank like Death Metal, sounds the same to me as Sky Dancer, Projector onwards, sounds the same crap repeated. "Still pure melodeath"? So you're one of those people who'd rather listen to a broken tape player over and over. Granted IF's efforts suck, but they're still efforts at something new. 1/2
and bands are allowed to change styles... Nothing wrong with that.
Insomnium's 1st album was the biggest pull away from generic Melo Death crap, the 2nd album was epic, 3rd slightly different but still something new, and with the 4th, they went more towards the Doom atmosphere. I fail to see how they've remained the same. In the end, DT spent eternity making 3 to 5 minute songs, repeating the same riff concepts over and over, while Insomnium remains KING.
"ow, that sounds really great! But one question: Who else subscribed to the new Insomnium fanbase but did not get a message of this video release? (and the other recording video, too...)
@TheRedCrusades what i mean is that there is not much change in this extract of the song. the first 30 seconds are different from the last 30 seconds, but other than that i'd like to hear more melodies / variation.
@n0oB4life Yeah, I do see what you mean, but my guess would be that the part we heard here is simply a verse or chorus that will sound far more intricate and deep on the actual recording.

Also, Mikael's vocals SUCKED, probably Insomnium's only mistake to date.
His vocals are more suited for DT. His vocals sounded like utter shit in Insomnium's sound and ended up being devoured.
Another thing that sucked about WTS was that Insomnium tried to aim more towards the DT sound, that fact is quite obvious as well.
WTS sounds almost like a rip off of Down With The Sun & a recycled version of The New Beginning.
Apart from WTS, Insomnium always delivers.
