Ernie Manouse has it wrong.
Isabelle never was a "debutante". She was at the end of her provincial high school when she was shipped to the US. There was no debutante circuit in her Grenoble area in the 50s and none yet in Paris itself. This fictional touch is not necessary to glamorize the story, even more interesting without it.
Not much mention of her conversion to Mormonism.
