I find it funny that I can't remember any of the music from Call Of Duty, or any of the xbox 360 games that I played 5 years ago. Then why do i get a vivid memory of me playing Donkey Kong when I was a child. I was born in 1992 and I can honestly say these themes stick with you for the rest of your life. I guess I just prefer the SNES and older games. Music in games do make memories.

@LucariosAxe Actually, I would argue against that. They have less third-party support is all. A lot of American and, to a much smaller degree, European developers develop primarily for the 360, PS3, and PC over the Wii.

A lot of games made on the N64 and SNES were by the hands of third-party developers with the aide of Nintendo.

I blame Microsoft, though. They're really interfered with Rare, in both how they develop games and their management.

@vevo125 When this game came out it was widely known for having pretty insane graphics. It's just... that was over fifteen years ago, and graphics have improved. Without some people pushing the boundaries of what's possible, we'd never be able to have old high end graphics available to anyone with a computer and a programming language. As is, games of 20 years ago can be recreated by a guy in his garage. Now we just need more of those kinds of programmers making new games the old way.

Look at the game Dead Island, fun game but the story makes no sense and it's mostly you mowing down zombies, same thing with even acclaimed series like Bioshock and Assassins Creed, which at least have story lines to them. The point I was trying to make is that, if the game isn't edgy or has 1080 at minimum graphics no one will take it seriously.

@doomrider7 I'm actually with you, but the problems you mentioned show what really changed with today's game industry: Games were made primary for Kids, while today even the gaming consoles themselves are rather made for older teens and young adults.

Colorful fantasy worlds, lovely characters and catchy tunes got replaced by dark, monotone realism, vin diesel look-alike protagonists and orchestrated hollywood movie scores. And sex, violence, profanity, etc.

As much as I love Donkey Kong Country it was VERY MUCH about the graphics. It was one of the first games ever to use pre-rendered 3D graphics and Nintendo turned that into its main marketing gimmick. It's a great game, but don't try to idealize history.

@TheHatheist But the game also supplemented by excellent and unique gameplay and control features for it's time. Also back then, you can make the argument that graphics mattered since we were moving away from simple 8-bit to more complex shapes and larger color variety's. Nowadays games like Killzone 3, Medal of Honor, and COD:MW have such similar graphics and controls most people can hardly tell the difference which is where the problem is.
