  • at 13:02 couldnt black have forked whites queen and rook with his knight?

  • @Chudawg11 Would have been taken by the bishop on c1

  • why didn't white capture the pawn at e6 and fork the rook and queen?

  • Comment removed

  • Title Translation in Dutch :D

(Aanvallend Schaken) (De Nederlandse verdediging) (Steenmuur Variatie)

(Attacking Chess) (The Dutch Defence) (Stonewall Variation)

  • @themanfromhell

There was a bishop gaurding the pawn

  • Not good to analyze the mistakes player makes, but the right moves availables, in this particular video.

  • @jrobichess please cover the caro-khann defense

  • how come in the polish immortal game, whites horse didnt jump the pawn and fork the queen and rook?

  • @themanfromhell ...Qh4

  • @Temptuous2112 if Qh4 surely Rh3 saves checkmate? urgh i just cant see it.

  • The Polish Immortal game was breathtaking, how Najdorf managed to sacrifice all his minor pieces to win the game, just amazing. Sure, White had pieces, but the way he checkmated was amazingly way thought out, great tactical player.

  • First could you please include the pgn files for the games, or at least a link to them, in your description?

The Dutch was a great favourite of Botvinnik in his younger days, you might want to take a look at some of his games.

When I learned the Dutch theory stated that for white to play cxd5 is almost always a positional error as it frees Black's position. I believe modern theory is to play a sort of counter-Stonewall by Ne5 and d4 early in the opening.

  • isnt the dutch just weakening dark squares areound the king and a backward e pawn ? why give yourself problems ?

  • which software did u use?

  • I believe that in the second example theres just too much sacrifice made by black that there´s the posibility of not taking the light squared bishop after the forking check in minute 19:01. One queen for such amount of minor pieces is worth the trying considering the fact that if the bishop is taking there´s mate in 2.

  • One anti-Dutch line 2.Bg5 contains a trap for Black. 1.d4 f5, 2.Bg5 h6, 3.Bh4 g5, 4.e4 - threatening Qh5#. If you’re learning the Dutch, or playing against it, it’s worth being aware of this trap.

  • no ratings for you!

    i loved the video

    im just an asshole

  • почему-то я атакую как бешеный =)

  • Thanks so much for this vid, jrobi. I have a chess tournament tommorow morning and im playing a guy who favours the stonewall, and I havent a clue what to play. Now I do! Thanks again :-)

  • in min. 7.54 what if white decides to take the bishop with his rook? after the black rook recaptures the knight is hanging...

  • awesome games ;)

  • I have taught chess for 5+ years and I really like to suggest the StoneWall to my beginner students because it is such a simple, solid system and easy to learn. Can you recommend any other similar systems?

  • @OnlineChessLessons im a beginer i find the caro kann to be simple and solid ! also for white collie system seems good ?

  • The computer plays Nh3 rather than pushing the pawn to g3 in 16.16, what do you think about it? Thanks.

  • hmm i'm just wondering pawn from d4 to d5 would ruin the base for the stonewall? wouldnt it?

  • Thanks for the videos i started learning chess in order to impress my boss and since then he has aggreed to pay for law school because he believes good attorneys are even better chess players

  • @21airsoftgod Why wouldn't the rook capture the knight?

  • great vid and commentary on my fave defence.

  • amazing game.

  • OMG nice use of sacrificing

  • @jrobichess

    what chess program u use?

  • im an expert player and i find your analysis far too superfitial... though i can understand why people find you entertaining... just my opinion... cheers

  • @crisis87

I'm going to ignore the unnecessary spite in your comment, but perhaps you have some further thoughts to add?

It's not really feasible to do a full in depth analysis of any lines / tactics within the time constraints of a YouTube vid. These get people thinking more about the game, and I know I've become a better player because of them. They are obviously targeted at players looking to learn basics

  • really cool!

I had seen Stonewalls used more like defensive, while these were strong attacking set-ups!

  • Gosu Gosu play

  • on 8:48, I think better is : Rxe1, Bf1 (only move) followed by taking on e4, iling up on the pinned bishop on f1..., so you don't need your B3 move to force the same problems for black

  • @tehjoch white*

  • When are you going to make some more videos Jrobi? I love your entire style and they have really been making me a better chess player. Please keep up the great work :)

  • When the bishop captured E7, I would have sent the knight to C3, putting pressure on their Queen. If their Queen retreated then I'd take the Bishop at E7 with the Queen. If the Bishop took F8 I'd have the Knight take it, supporting the Pawn at H7, giving my Queen sight to E4 supporting my Knight and to C6 supporting my Pawn, and giving the Bishop at C8 vision to F5 supporting that Pawn. Then I would have my Knight take their Queen, potentially giving up my Knight. I dunno, I'm just 16.

  • nice reinforcement of stonewall 1.

  • reminds me of judo throw...attacker and opponent often both go down, but even though attacker may sacrifice his own balance to throw (rather than a piece), he keeps control of his op on the way down, and follows through with a clean landing.

  • Love your vlog! Great vids. Can't find the accelerated Dragon video. You've made my game so much better. A million thanks. Playing chess is fun again.

  • what the heck i like all of your videos.... but I think i've watch them all... hope I could watch many many many more!!!! ^_^

  • Pretty good, thanks for the video. :D

  • my girlfriend and I watch this vid... we have a great time and she said it was a good video... hehehehe this night is so special to me!!!

  • The last game was very interesting

  • how cud anyone think that far ahead?must have implanted a microchip in his brain

  • always make the move when you are sure that there is something great enough to cover it or balance it-

  • I have only just discovered your tutorials, this is the first I have seen.

I have been trying to play the dutch defence with little success for a couple of months now, I think this will definitely help.

Thank you for taking the time to make these vids.

  • u rock

  • @ 18:59 couldn't the king go to E3?

  • @sksmith1247 As the commentary points out, the bishop could then take the white queen.

  • @ 4:55 white has just captured a bishop & treatening a rook, in the given lines black takes the white bishop in return with the queen. But notice that black can instead take the white knight on c3 which (as you pointed out) is undefended. By doing this black threatens white's queen, once the white queen moves (assuming to a square that would threaten that same black knight probably d2) black lands a check on e2 winning that 'center' pawn. White takes knight with queen, black captures bishop.

  • Wow.... Great Insight into the game... Really in deepth and useful....

  • interesting movie, i dont play chess but I learned something. Nice movie

  • Take me into the mind of Nidorf (spelling?) in that last game, he gave up so much material for that final checkmate, was there anything that white could ever do to escape it? or was it inevitable? It seems like black was taking a huge risk, or did he know that he was going to mate him?

  • the polish immortal is THE best game i have ever seen!

  • first, I want to say great game and great commentating.

No one's asked this yet, so. . . at 15:47, what if white played pawn to f3 instead of pawn to f4? It threatens the black knight at g4 and I don't see any checkmates in the next few moves.

  • @scipionyxzer0 queen takes knight, carries on

  • Helpful video and beautiful game! I have recently returned to chess having not played much since college and your videos have been exceptionally helpful in cleaning out the cobwebs!

  • when black plays pawn to b4 at 7:52 , shouldn't white answer with Rxc8?? after, black would respond with Rxc8 and then after white plays Rxd7 killing the now unprotected knight? maybe it would save a little bit white's position??

  • Comment removed

  • Epic!

  • Im not a very good chess player, but I was wondering at around 15:53, before or after that pawn move, would retreating the g knight back to h3 be a better move than the next pawn to g3 move?

  • knight g1 for white in 16:13 of the video does help? If b was to go Queen h5, white would play knight (g) h3 and end the black onslaught. If b was to capture the knight when white plays Kg1 with bishop, white would recapture by king, and after Qh5 by black, white would just play Kg3. Now white can't check, or sacrifica anything useful. Besides, white bishop now has the option to go e2. Well... my rusted chess could only comprehend this much, and maybe it's all wrong?

  • I was laughing my head off at the end THAT WAS HILARIOUS!!!

  • Hey guys i was just wondering how you can handle a bishop to f4 when you put the pawn on f5 it completely kills everything

  • I'm really strating to see the tactical shots.I saw the bishop one (not the follow up though!) and I'm starting to really be able to capitalise on a development advantage. However When a Position is more "silent" I tend to fail to make something out of it.Got any ideas ?

  • in the first game i think a very good move is 4...h6!

the bishop has to take than the queen takes and than after later Bd6 and Nd7 (after d5 and c6 of course) your position is very good

  • amazing thinking

  • What if B x Nf6 and Black x back with Q. It would appear that the dutch idea is fairly trashed. What then?

  • the second game was an incredible game of chess. Never seen anything like it

  • at 13:34.

(note that this comes from a beginner)

    Queen to h4?

  • 5:38 "lets see what chu got!" *sassily snaps fingers three times* lol l love that

  • Hey...jrobichess, you should do video on the Stonewall attack. or the Dutch Attack that's what it's called.

  • wtf 18:13-19:50 how wud u ever come up with that? pure genius!

  • @yellowcakeur

I'm thinking that myself. I suppose the only way you can do it (without having immense amount of time to consider options) would be to have faith in where you have dominant pieces on a particular file? Gradually as pawns move these pieces come into play and the options get smaller and smaller. The Queen was never in danger and that Knight on g4 was owning all in that position.

    Thanks jrobi!

  • At 15:47, when white played pawn to f4, couldn't he instead play knight captures the pawn on E6 forking the queen and rook? Would that have been a good move? Is there something I'm not seeing? I guess the players just didn't see it.

  • That will just let black get his queen into the mating sequence unfortunately. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • @jrobichess

At 11:58 what would you do if white instead pushed his pawn to c5, attacking your bishop

  • @jrobichess

At around 15:47 what is wrong with instead of pushing to f4, pushing the pawn the f3 attacking the knight.

  • @Darkblaze10k It opens a mating pattern. ...f3 Qxg5 fxg6 Qh4 and it's game over. No move from white will prevent ...Bg3+ Kg1 Qh2#

  • @jrobichess yes onces 2... Nxe6. 3.Qh4 Nxf8 4.Bg3+ 4.Kg1 Qh2#. is that right?

  • @WeAreBorg359

there is bishop on C1 to take care of that fork :)

  • That bishop on c8 is blocked by the knight. And the bishop on C1 is one of white's pieces anyway, so, what are you talking about exactly?

At 15:45, instead of playing f4, white could have forked the queen and rook, there would have been nothing to stop the fork. However, as Jrobi said, that would only allow the queen to get into the mating process. Correct me if I am wrong.

  • I wasn't talking about the black knight forking the white king and queen and rook at 17:16 if that's what ur talking about, because that's the only way a bishop on c1 could intervene, I was talking about white's knight at 15:47 forking the queen and rook. But again, Jrobi said it would be pointless because of black's mating threat. And I see what he means.

  • @WeAreBorg359 knight captures E6 would let white bring out his dark square bishop for free

  • @WeAreBorg359 dude how? when the knight is to far away anyway?

  • @WeAreBorg359 no because queen to h4 is far far to strong!!!

  • @WeAreBorg359

at 7:51 if the white tower on c3 not block pawn (going on b3) but take the rook on c8, the black must take this tower with tower in f8 and the white, with the other tower on e7, can gain horse on d7. Someone explaine me if is uncorrect. thank

  • @arimanno74 Hi. Even then black can push his b4 pawn up the board. White can not capture it without losing significant material thus the game

  • @WeAreBorg359 the bishop on c1 defending this pawn

  • awesome man but rly how did you upload a 20min vid?

  • I think you need to pay if you want to make the video over 10 minutes.

  • The first game seems obscure. The Black player is FIDE unrated from Mozambique! I think Bg5 + g3 is not a good mix of strategies. Bg5 + e3 is probably more common.

4.Bg5 Be7 5.Bxf6 Bxf6 6.e4 is not a bad anti-Dutch system that leaves Stonewall territory. 4.Bg5 Bb4 is recommended by Simon Williams to avoid this possibility. I think the Stonewall is an effective combo with Classical Dutch systems with Bb4(+) against early c4 lines.

I hadn't heard of the Polish Immortal Game. Nice combination.

  • Oops, I mean the White player. Utegaliyev appears to be the #1 Under 18 player in Kazakhstan.

  • unbelievable! 4 pieces sacrificed! thanks jrobi. keep em coming!

  • That was crazy! That was completely crazy nuts

  • Brilliant (y)

  • CHESSGASM XD

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! I play the Dutch Stonewall regularly versus d4 and your review of the defense was excellent. The Polish Immortal game is also breathtaking! Thanks for the great video!

  • jrobi, thanks for your videos they are really helpful. I used to play freestyle chess if you will but after having watched all your videos my game and rating have started to improve rapidly. Wanted to ask what program you were using. The interface look cool. Thanks!!!

  • wow! absolutely brilliant second game!!!

    WOW...wow........wooooow....

  • ive had many bad experiences with this opening as black. ive had many many draws because of the jammed up pawn structures.. even with lower rated players. but this vid was really interesting and instructive.

  • Polish Immortal is the best game in chess....

  • Thanks Jrobi! Your analysis are always top notch showing all the possible outcomes and the best moves to make! Much appreciated!

  • This game is pure genious, it is always a pleasure looking at this game, it's definatley one of my top 20 chess games of all time. Thanks for sharing j.

  • Wow. I was looking for something else and clicked on this video by accident. Once you got going, I couldn't stop watching. :^D Brilliant stuff.

  • amazing analysis man

  • thanks jrobi, you've turned me on to this defence, and enjoyed the pace of your commentary and analysis.

  • really great vid

  • Brilliant game

  • That was such a brilliant game. Najdorf is my hero.

  • Good job explaining this game. Wonderful. I guess it was good that the opponent did not resign in order for us to learn from this great game. Perfect!!! Thanks,

  • Briliant game, great video.

    Thanks.

  • After watching the whole video and actually implementing the opening into my black play I've had so much good positional play with it it's my new favorite defense with black. The Sicilian Najdorf may be very good, but I just can't seem to get it right positionally after people diverge from the bookline.

Thank you so much Jrobi, I appreciate all the videos you've put out.

  • indeed! I have been a subscriber for sometime but this is my first comment! Great!

  • Smashing stuff Jrobi.

    Thanks

  • at 15:46 why doesn't white play Ne6?

  • if he played N x e6 it would be followed by Qh4 and any move after is followed by Bg3 check and then king moves along and the queen goes on h2 check mate

  • im new to chess and i actaully seen bishop to b1 sac and i was al pround lol your videos are really helping my chess game keep it up

  • Nice endgame!\

  • excellent game ...i love last game's ending...tnx jrobic

  • Awesome video jrobi! I really loved the najdorf game:) its like unbelievable... and great video of course, have to mention that:)

  • holy crap, Polish Immortal!

  • wow man what would happen if white captures d5 at 11:11 instead of playing e3

  • great vid. Thanks jrobi.

  • Brilliant great games

  • Great Vid!!! Plety of brilliat advice

  • 8:30 is the type of thinking that separates a novice from a pro. I would definitely would not have seen that.

  • Awesome video! The Najdorf game is insane. In some of your other videos you refer to the chess engines, what engines are you talking about?

  • Rybka 3 - it won the world computer chess championship again this year. Currently the top chess engine. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • Are you using Chessbase?

  • No, it's Aquarium with Rybka 3. Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • the laste game is amazing ....... when was it played again???

  • Thanks huseen!

  • wow... that last game was AMAZING!

  • Totally agree - a brilliant attacking idea in that game!

  • Great game.. The Stonewall is a good defense and can be used for great offense.. By sacrificing the bishop and using the queen and and rook combo..

  • Totally agree topshonuff - I am looking forward to exploring the Leningrad in more detail as well. Thanks for checking out the vid!
