The Polish Immortal game was breathtaking, how Najdorf managed to sacrifice all his minor pieces to win the game, just amazing. Sure, White had pieces, but the way he checkmated was amazingly way thought out, great tactical player.
First could you please include the pgn files for the games, or at least a link to them, in your description?
The Dutch was a great favourite of Botvinnik in his younger days, you might want to take a look at some of his games.
When I learned the Dutch theory stated that for white to play cxd5 is almost always a positional error as it frees Black's position. I believe modern theory is to play a sort of counter-Stonewall by Ne5 and d4 early in the opening.
I believe that in the second example theres just too much sacrifice made by black that there´s the posibility of not taking the light squared bishop after the forking check in minute 19:01. One queen for such amount of minor pieces is worth the trying considering the fact that if the bishop is taking there´s mate in 2.
One anti-Dutch line 2.Bg5 contains a trap for Black. 1.d4 f5, 2.Bg5 h6, 3.Bh4 g5, 4.e4 - threatening Qh5#. If you’re learning the Dutch, or playing against it, it’s worth being aware of this trap.

im an expert player and i find your analysis far too superfitial... though i can understand why people find you entertaining... just my opinion... cheers
I'm going to ignore the unnecessary spite in your comment, but perhaps you have some further thoughts to add?
It's not really feasible to do a full in depth analysis of any lines / tactics within the time constraints of a YouTube vid. These get people thinking more about the game, and I know I've become a better player because of them. They are obviously targeted at players looking to learn basics
on 8:48, I think better is : Rxe1, Bf1 (only move) followed by taking on e4, iling up on the pinned bishop on f1..., so you don't need your B3 move to force the same problems for black
When are you going to make some more videos Jrobi? I love your entire style and they have really been making me a better chess player. Please keep up the great work :)
When the bishop captured E7, I would have sent the knight to C3, putting pressure on their Queen. If their Queen retreated then I'd take the Bishop at E7 with the Queen. If the Bishop took F8 I'd have the Knight take it, supporting the Pawn at H7, giving my Queen sight to E4 supporting my Knight and to C6 supporting my Pawn, and giving the Bishop at C8 vision to F5 supporting that Pawn. Then I would have my Knight take their Queen, potentially giving up my Knight. I dunno, I'm just 16.
reminds me of judo throw...attacker and opponent often both go down, but even though attacker may sacrifice his own balance to throw (rather than a piece), he keeps control of his op on the way down, and follows through with a clean landing.
Love your vlog! Great vids. Can't find the accelerated Dragon video. You've made my game so much better. A million thanks. Playing chess is fun again.
@ 4:55 white has just captured a bishop & treatening a rook, in the given lines black takes the white bishop in return with the queen. But notice that black can instead take the white knight on c3 which (as you pointed out) is undefended. By doing this black threatens white's queen, once the white queen moves (assuming to a square that would threaten that same black knight probably d2) black lands a check on e2 winning that 'center' pawn. White takes knight with queen, black captures bishop.
Take me into the mind of Nidorf (spelling?) in that last game, he gave up so much material for that final checkmate, was there anything that white could ever do to escape it? or was it inevitable? It seems like black was taking a huge risk, or did he know that he was going to mate him?
first, I want to say great game and great commentating.
No one's asked this yet, so. . . at 15:47, what if white played pawn to f3 instead of pawn to f4? It threatens the black knight at g4 and I don't see any checkmates in the next few moves.
Helpful video and beautiful game! I have recently returned to chess having not played much since college and your videos have been exceptionally helpful in cleaning out the cobwebs!
Helpful video and beautiful game! I have recently returned to chess having not played much since college and your videos have been exceptionally helpful in cleaning out the cobwebs!
when black plays pawn to b4 at 7:52 , shouldn't white answer with Rxc8?? after, black would respond with Rxc8 and then after white plays Rxd7 killing the now unprotected knight? maybe it would save a little bit white's position??
Im not a very good chess player, but I was wondering at around 15:53, before or after that pawn move, would retreating the g knight back to h3 be a better move than the next pawn to g3 move?
knight g1 for white in 16:13 of the video does help? If b was to go Queen h5, white would play knight (g) h3 and end the black onslaught. If b was to capture the knight when white plays Kg1 with bishop, white would recapture by king, and after Qh5 by black, white would just play Kg3. Now white can't check, or sacrifica anything useful. Besides, white bishop now has the option to go e2. Well... my rusted chess could only comprehend this much, and maybe it's all wrong?
I'm really strating to see the tactical shots.I saw the bishop one (not the follow up though!) and I'm starting to really be able to capitalise on a development advantage. However When a Position is more "silent" I tend to fail to make something out of it.Got any ideas ?
I'm thinking that myself. I suppose the only way you can do it (without having immense amount of time to consider options) would be to have faith in where you have dominant pieces on a particular file? Gradually as pawns move these pieces come into play and the options get smaller and smaller. The Queen was never in danger and that Knight on g4 was owning all in that position.
At 15:47, when white played pawn to f4, couldn't he instead play knight captures the pawn on E6 forking the queen and rook? Would that have been a good move? Is there something I'm not seeing? I guess the players just didn't see it.
That bishop on c8 is blocked by the knight. And the bishop on C1 is one of white's pieces anyway, so, what are you talking about exactly?
At 15:45, instead of playing f4, white could have forked the queen and rook, there would have been nothing to stop the fork. However, as Jrobi said, that would only allow the queen to get into the mating process. Correct me if I am wrong.
I wasn't talking about the black knight forking the white king and queen and rook at 17:16 if that's what ur talking about, because that's the only way a bishop on c1 could intervene, I was talking about white's knight at 15:47 forking the queen and rook. But again, Jrobi said it would be pointless because of black's mating threat. And I see what he means.
at 7:51 if the white tower on c3 not block pawn (going on b3) but take the rook on c8, the black must take this tower with tower in f8 and the white, with the other tower on e7, can gain horse on d7. Someone explaine me if is uncorrect. thank
The first game seems obscure. The Black player is FIDE unrated from Mozambique! I think Bg5 + g3 is not a good mix of strategies. Bg5 + e3 is probably more common.
4.Bg5 Be7 5.Bxf6 Bxf6 6.e4 is not a bad anti-Dutch system that leaves Stonewall territory. 4.Bg5 Bb4 is recommended by Simon Williams to avoid this possibility. I think the Stonewall is an effective combo with Classical Dutch systems with Bb4(+) against early c4 lines.

Totally agree - a brilliant attacking idea in that game!

Great game.. The Stonewall is a good defense and can be used for great offense.. By sacrificing the bishop and using the queen and and rook combo..
