  • Pass the Thorazine!

  • 8 people need their Haldol

  • be careful, there are 8 crazy people between us. maybe they're just victims of an acute schizophrenia. if they're not, then i just don't understand what is going on with them.

  • A superb album! Complete and perfectly conceived and executed from start to finish just like Village breen! My absolute favourite band of all time! Everyone else....take note; this is how it's done!

  • Ray and Dave flick their hair back at the same time :D

    Love the Kinks!!!

  • @WardyYNWA Yeah love that!

  • This is some GREAT blues! Just hits the SOUL! mm MMH!!!

  • God save the Kinks!

  • Thank you!

  • listen to that voice

  • @tiemyshoes92 Oh tell me about it!!

  • Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues, couldnt live without it:)

  • You said it Ray!

  • still...the best band EVER.

  • there ain't no cure...fuck the adage that if you know what's bothering you, it won't matter...always remember just because you think someone's following you, it doesn't mean they ain't

  • Muswell Hillbillies

The "Dark Side of the Moon" of

thoughtful lyric driven sweet horn enhanced "lost on the river of no return" despairing but trucking on anyways concept albums...

    all that hair

    beautiful

  • Baptist kicks ass in this video. Not to mention Dave's surreal coolness. Nevermind. Dave Davies is always goddamn amazing.

  • great title for a song

  • this is such a great song, from such a great band. I love how the music sounds "drunk"

What a lyricist, what a guy, what a band (and love ya, Davie!)

  • Yep...no doubt this is my favorite Kinks and indeed every cut as good as another...great music....

  • The exquisite Mr. John Gosling on keyboards!

  • My gawd ,what a boring band they became after say..'72.

And I thought The Stones began to suck around '76. Thisis even worse.

No fuckin wonder they continualy had to camp on the fringes, till a little surprise hit in the 80's,and then had to wait till 2008 when R.Davies dicided to revisit his back catalogue.

This lot had nuthin on The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

Oh well....they were happy to be a cabaret act .And live off their '60's royalties.

No band can be brilliant all the time.

  • i love this song........ PIZZA TASTES SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the post

  • THIS IS HOW YOU PLAY REAL MUSIC!

  • Kinks, Great band, one of the underrated ones.

Scorpions, one of the overrated ones.

  • @NaserMusic yea i hate how underrated bands are sometimes just look at justin beiber or taylor swift THEY ROCK

  • @NaserMusic That figures ...this lot and 'The $çørp¡øns", in one comment.....;]

  • Muswell is great, Arthur smashes, Face To face is phenomenal, Think Visual astonishes and everything else grooves.

  • The kinks did so much great music, this is so totally original with the mix of new orleans jazz, blues and just general kinksness. The 8 people who gave this a thumbs down clearly didn't find the standard cookie cutter rock they were looking for.

  • I bought Muswell Hillbillies for a buck-seventy-five in a 7-11 in about '69 or '70 and managed to replace it twice! What an under-rated album

  • thanks again to everyone posting these great songs....I am rediscovering so many of my favorite songs from my favorite band of all time

  • Great stuff... haven't heard that for like ever.

  • Only The Kinks can make the trumpet, clarinet and tuba sound cool.

  • think this is my theme tune

  • WHERE DID THIS ALL START?

  • @butsy1818 In his head...

  • Who is the trumpet player?

  • MH is my favorite Kinks album as well. Superb album from start to finish. My friend loaned me a copy one day. I asked which songs were the best. He said something like"number 1 is awesome, and #2, #3,#4,#5... well, actually the whole thing is great." He was right.

  • This is BEYOND MiNT... i LiKEEEE LOTS!!! XoX

  • Yea! Old Kinks! Come on folks, it's 2010-plenty of music out there beside generic New Orleans as made famous by an old English band. Tune in, turn on and listen to something new.

  • @momzbling this probably is new to most people...

  • Dude music today sucks dick so stfu man we can listen to what ever we want to,you must not reconize real music when ya hear it ,u fag

  • @momzbling You received an "F" when graded on "playing well with others" didn't you Sparky?

  • I love listening to this when I have "one of those days" :)

  • I've lost 20 stone too. ask me how .I love the kinks.

  • Rare Kinks! Thanks for posting.

  • The exquisite Mr. John Gosling on the pianoforte.

  • I wore out 3 copies of Muswell Hillbillies in the day. It's so great to hear this in a live version.

  • I wore out 3 copies of Muswell Hillbillies in the day. It's so great to hear this in a live version.

  • funny lyrics

  • I love how he keeps looking around while singing this.

  • that tuba guy is rocking it

  • the guy with the ginger afro's just great ,oh and good song

  • would agree with the list above only stones too high in rating

  • Didn't tour?

I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium c.1970

Ray come out to do the encore in his underwear.

  • @mbenet ... loved the way they "worked a crowd".. saw them on the " Give The People What They Want" tour... '80? every time the crowd started to sit down, Ray, would pull another "rabbit" out of his hat !!!

  • My favorite British band. This is really good to find. Hillbillies is a great LP. Undeniably British.

  • @bajecco - eat shit

  • Muswell Hillbillies is the best Kinks album in my opinion. Yet its probably the least heard.

  • @clorpakaboosi mine too, and it s got Oklahoma USA on it!

  • @clorpakaboosi I seen them on this tour it was thier 1st time back in the states in 4 or 5 years ,great show .

  • @clorpakaboosi "skin and bone" is my favorite...I always listen to it when im at the market.

  • @clorpakaboosi the kinks fuckin rule, and muswell hillbillies and lola versus powerman and the money go round are their best albums in my opinion....long live the kinks

  • @clorpakaboosi

Not my favourite - I'd put Village Green... & Arthur ahead, but IMO certainly the most critically underrated. I always thought that The Kinks took several albums to discover their own real identity. They tried to be The Rolling Stones too often earlier.

  • Panoramic

  • CeramIC

  • Ultrasonic mind like bionic psichotronic illness

  • I got trojan horse flu

  • Beatles, Kinks, Who, Rolling Stones. In this order. The Stones really got lucky to be 2nd most famous band in the '60s. The kinks are by far the best band after the beatles. Yet, they couldn't tour the states, and there's where is decided who gets bigger.

  • Why didn't they go to the US?

  • They got banned for three years i think (1966 1969), for not showing up at one gig. back then touring was everything.

  • Cracking track you can really belive Ray Davies when he sing this

  • Thanks so much for posting this, I would have thought it was way too obscure to find. I've always loved the Muswell Hillbillies album. Funny, on the album takes, his voice is almost deliberately recorded low or muddy, yet it seems right. Do you have alcohol or 20 th man? Where is this from?

  • Love his little Mick moments, slinky as hell.

  • It is so great that this is DEAD NUTS LIVE! A real recording!

  • how many of us know schizoid and alcohol(drugs) induced schizoprenia?

Oh! Oh dear...I know somesix or so afficted.

Kinks hit a home run. All of our(my) hats are off to the Kinks,

  • Straight banging! Dave lays in the groove like a confident snake. :)

  • Me too. But its about to be over. God is great.

  • ive got it !

    and so do i.....

  • gotta love those horns

  • "The Mike Cotton Sound"

    Muswell Hillbillies album

  • Applause! Applause!

  • Love this.

  • Very clever - love it!

  • extraordinaire!! tout est là . rien à redire!!!

  • ray looks kinda scary in this video.

  • love the jagger take off at 1:30

  • God I love this one!

  • A cute Blues to have...most of us have a touch of it and we don't even know it..hahaha

  • Maybe Crispin Glover could characterize Ray in a biography on Kinks?

  • love this...

  • Cool!!

  • haha I love how they pronounce schizophrenia

  • there is nothing pretentious about praise. and I had no intention of interfering with your enjoyment of this song. can we agree that the Kinks are the best?

  • i would not call this song a throw away it is one of the best songs on the best album of their post sixties era

  • hey is ray missing a front tooth?

  • HAHAHAHAHA

No he's just privileged with that look sadly.

  • The visual qualities of this video (the clarity, the colors) are superb, as is the sound, and Ray's vocal control and quality were never better (but for just as good: see the video that combines "Waterloo Sunset" and "Village Green Preservation Society," which may be taken from the same concert as this one); the song itself is something of a throwaway (at least in comparison with "Waterloo Sunset"), but the heart that beats here is absolutely that of a phenomenal and unique artist.

  • I love the brass.

  • Cant trust nobody, but I'm too afraid to be on my own...

  • The Kinks Rock

  • schizo-phreena? :D

  • greatest song of all time.

  • Love the 60's - my era!!!

  • Great :)Thanks for sharing this video..

  • ray looks like neil from the young ones

  • in wich album is this song in?

  • 'muswell hillbillies' from the early 70's i believe - a wonderful album well worth checking out.

  • their best;)

  • I agree. My favorite Kinks album.

  • I'm too terrified to walk out of my own front door,

They're demonstrating outside I think they're gonna start the third world war,

I've been to my local head shrinker,

    To help classify my disease,

He said it's one of the cases of acute schizophrenia he sees. :)

  • When i went into my local record shop oh, some 25 years ago in the midst of early 80's ennui, i bought Muswell Hillbillies and Arthur. It got me through those dark tragic early teenhood times...thank you Ray and Dave et al. You saved my teens from the ravages of "New Wave"??!!

  • and eye use to think it was just me.

  • This is why I love the Davies brothers!

    And Ray has new albums!

  • This is why I love the Davies brothers!

    And Ray has new albums!

  • Moorlock is NUTS Muswell Hillbillies is a fantastic LP just as good as any of the Reprise albums

  • I agree. How can you not sing along with Ray on that L. P.? Lots of funny lyrics also.God Save the Kinks!

  • Muswell Hillbillies is a rather unpleasant album to listen to, very much a downer. They were so much better before this.

  • Total crush on Mr. Ray Davies. <3 :D

  • @OperaGypsy ....must be a gypsy thing! Me too!!! ;D

  • @OperaGypsy same - im a dude

  • @OperaGypsy The little brother wasn't bad either :)

  • ray davies wasn't schizophrenic, although possibly bipolar from what i have learnt. this song isn't really that serious or personal, like a lot of work from the kinks. more of a parody about modern culture and fears at the time, years ahead of most artists i think, and completely unique

  • why are so many schizo's also gap-toothed?

  • haha i live with a schizophrenic and he has a big space between his two front teeth

  • wh...

  • Thank you!!!

  • God I love this song and album. I wore out my turntable at Springfield College(where the men are men and so are the women) playing this song in 1972 and 73.

  • paranoia is just having all the facts...

  • Good song, but it's really irritating that he can't pronounce schizophrenia...

  • Agreed.

  • lol...yeah I threw me off too

  • was he really schizophrenic?... just wondering...

  • I he had to be everything he wrote about he would have been a schizophrenic, an alcoholic, suffering from anorexia and going straight to jail- and that is just judging from this album! On top of that he would also have to have beeen a transvestite (Lola)... and what have you...

  • where are these clips from? It's so clear.

  • Perfectly! I did not hear this singer earlier. A song about alcohol excellent too !

  • Ah yes, the fantastic Kinks. Ray Davies, one of my favorite songwriters. Punching out a record executive! Way to go Ray!

  • lol at the dude playing the trumpet.

hahaha I want to meet him

  • To FrozenLads - the gap in Ray's teeth is from a childhood accident. He talks about it in his book "X-Ray" (page 22 and page 104) - he opted not to have it fixed. I say, good for him -it's his mark of distinction. (Not that he needs one...) And I don't think he's scary looking at all - hot & sexy!

  • another good song about schizophrenia is 'beautiful schizophrenic' by lisa germano, one of the many great songs i have mark radcliffe to thank for introducing me to (in the days when he was with lard)

  • now i know what it is i've been suffering from

    cheers ray

  • The Davies brothers are FUCKIN' HOT!

  • i respect your oppinion, but personally i find ray davies to be scary-looking when he's smiling. seriously! the man has a gap the size of lake michigan right between his two front teeth! (haha)

  • So does Madonna and Lana Turner...and they aren't too scary looking.

Its a fairly common British trait.

  • If it weren't for the Kinks being banned from the US during the mid-60s, they would be on the same level as the Stones or Beatles.

  • Huh? What did they get banned for? I'm not to keen on the history of the band.

  • They were banned from entering the US from 1965 to 1969 because their shows were too wild. The band would fight one another on stage and the crowd would get out of control. Mick Avory was arrested for hitting Dave Davies with a drum pedal and knocking him out. Wild band, don't let the mellow sound fool you.

  • it was just to put on a show, right?

they weren't actually pissed off at each other, were they?

  • the fighting, i mean

  • The band did not get along at all. Mick Avory and Dave Davies fought all of the time.

  • On my channel, I have a 4 part "rockumentary" about The Kinks which will give you all the background on all the infighting and being banned.

  • Well....sort of.

The drum pedal incident was in Cardiffe, Wales.

The real reason was because they didn't "act" like they appreciated being able to tour the USA by the record company bosses and Ray punched one in the face in a meeting.

  • In a interview with Ray. well 2 interviews, He claims Mick used the actual Symbol to try to scalp Dave, not the pedal...

  • You can hear and see Mick himself say it was his hi-hat pedal in the Kinks Rockumentary that I have on my channel in 4 parts. That happened in Cardiffe.

They were banned from the USA because Ray punched a record executive while on tour there.

  • A wonderful song. Just so great to sing along to.

  • great.great.great. never heard it before.

but great way to go ray

  • "...too terrrrafiiiiied to walk out of my own front doooooah" - love the southern twist with the Brit vernacular. Wonder if Ray wrote this when he was living in New Orleans? The guy is HOT!!!

  • Rock on Kinks!! They were huge here the year Give The People What They Want came out.

  • *goose bumps*

  • fantastic song and what a title for a song! ray davies really is the most underrated songwriter ever.simply sublime.

  • So many people...especially U.S. radio programmers...missed the Kinks boat entirely.

  • the old "schizofreena" eh Ray

  • Davies is a maaaaaaaaaadddd-maaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!!!!!!!

  • What happened to their wonderful rendition of Village Green Preservation Society from this show?

  • Sums up smoking dope!

  • I can't believe it - the Kinks seem much more than just another 60s band - they're fantastic with such a range of different sounds!!!

  • greatest song ever.

  • Genius! Muswell Hillbillies is a brilliant album too.

  • Fab clip from the great Muswell Hillbillies. Love the moment of Ray and Dave singing together. Thanks and keep posting your clips, Kinks lovers!

  • I love Ray Davies... man-love.

  • Cool! Another great from the marvellous Muswell Hillbillies. Thanx for posting gusta

  • no conocia esta cancion, es weena

  • SMASHING!!!! Although Ray looks a bit morbid, but nevertheless he is sexy! Do you have more videos of that gig?
