Donnie Iris is 1 of the greats yet this vid is in mono (im listening to the song with head phones and im only getting it in the right ear) if u can pls re-upload it so that its in stereo
The dramatic story, the element of surprise, the twist, the tunefulness, the vigor of the instrumentalists and their talent . . . What other rock performance could surpass this for all the classic qualities required for an emotional, super-danceable, kick-out-the-jams rock classic?
He is just campy enough, just self-mocking enough, to show that he has authenticity, no ego complexes in either direction, and a well-honed sense of both humor and tragedy. His movements would help a deaf person or a non-English speaker get the story—or at least enjoy the performance.
I just cannot believe that no one has yet commented on this song! OK, ladies, just close your eyes and pretend that Donnie Iris is a hunk. His voice is a nice virile tenor II, I would say. He enunciates, he stays on key, he uses just the right amount of embellishment (some of which tickles the funnybone!), he perfuses his voice with emotion judiciously—that brilliance of seeming out of control while being totally in control . . . he is a perfect showman, a pro master of the stage.
