  • i am a heron. i haev a long neck and i pick fish out of the water w/ my beak. if you dont repost this comment on 10 other pages i will fly into your kitchen tonight and make a mess of your pots and pans

  • i have a video of a great blue heron on the beach and some jogger chases it off in the middle of the video...... those kind of people don't understand how rare it is over here to see a great blue heron AT ALL let alone on a beach.

  • Wow, your video got over 100,000 views! I just uploaded my first great blue heron video from my camera. What kind of camera did you use?

  • @olympiada06 my camera is four years old, its a Canon GL2. I had no experience with video cameras, this was my very first day out. I wasn't even meaning to share any footage, but this Heron was chowing on a massive fish right in front of me. I don't know why this video has so many views; I have really great videos of ferocious eagles hunting and eating with only a few hundred views.

  • Beautiful video....I love these birds as well...have a few great pics on my flickr stream...if you want to check

  • Want to know were I believe they belongs to? It is Heron City LOLOLOOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

  • That's a mouthful.

  • there are couple of blue herons preying on the golf club i work at and they are always being bothered by crows and magpies.

  • ive seen one eat a gopher whole.

  • great blur herons can choke once they eat fish tht are too hard to swallow :] FRIENDLY TIP: try to make it longer [no offense] haha srry <33

  • I know it's true, hahah it's too long.

but hey, it was like only my second or third time out with the camera! and then editing. I'm much better now. heh

  • @QueenXxOfBunniez That's what she said!

  • We have a few herons in my area. One caught a large gopher snake and worked it down like gigantic spaghetti. He got a good grab on the head fast otherwise it would have been a battle, gopher snakes are feisty. The snake's tail was wagging until the last! It was fascinating. I wonder how long something like that would squirm in the bird's tummy?

  • That bird is like "GET IN MY BELLY!!!!!" haha

  • its nemo trying to get out of the Blue herons neck and yeah they are beautiful birds

  • their such beautiful birds

  • it's funny how the fish is like alive trying to slide back up

  • I know, it puts a new definition on the term "sushi".

  • LAME! That fish is tiny!

  • could u swallow that? Thats wut she said

  • As can be clearly seen at the end of THIS VIDEO the Heron successfully swallows the fish then flies away down the beach.

Either grab a brain or get off the crack pipe. Yeesh.

  • @pamwagg Yeah and humans choke on food too. but is it bad to film one eating ? NO .. Tard.

  • well well, beautiful rare footage :)

  • thanks!

  • there was one on my roof this mornig

  • you have a problem kirbehsbizzatch!

  • Whatchyoutalkinbout Willis?

  • flounder

  • well that's what I thought then someone told me there are no flounder in English Bay then later someone else told me there sure are, so I'm just not sure now.

  • That's the most powerful zoom I've seen in a video camcorder.

  • i took a pictur of one of those on my nabors roof i scared th sh*t out of i litaraly

  • Wow, fantastic vid! There are Great Blues living here but it's a rare sight & getting a good photo is tricky since they are so shy. Great zoom, I'd love to photograph one that close some day.

  • Hey right on, thanks!

  • --reply comment--

wow there realy sshy in america? when i go fishing (england) i get them right beside the bank side about 10m away.

  • nice camara

  • that bird gonna choke...somedaay

  • Weaver fish :)

  • THANK YOU!!

    finally.

  • hes pretty... ps whats the optical zoom on your camera

  • Canon GL2

    Lens: f/1.6 -2.9, 20X POWER ZOOM, 4.2-84MM

  • I can do that.

  • thats small

  • What a beautiful bird.

  • HUUUGE!

  • that was not a big fish!!!!!!

  • It's big enough to stick in the Heron's throat like a big slippery hunk of something! haha

  • Feral or unsupervised cats & dogs are a major to native wildlife. That's why I shoot them wherever it's legally permitted.

  • milvipes, go the fuck to hell. what makes you think some bird or bunny is worth more than someone's dog or cat? anyway, would you shoot a cougar for killing a deer? domesticated predators are STILL predators.

  • Big difference here. Native predators keep our ecosystem in check, whereas exotic ones tilt it out of balance. I'll never forget how bunny huggers like you screwed the SF Bay clapper rails population by allowing exotic red foxes run freely.

  • what fish its all aobut a bird?!?

  • bird 0 - fish 1

    Haha poor bird :p

  • GBHs rock! They're pretty when they fly. I see them every day. Hehe.. they're my 3rd favorite animal.

  • Looked like it swallowed a small flounder!

  • wdf i think it ate a bluegill... world's most average fish

  • What kind of a fish was that?

  • looked like a small stingray to me, lol.

  • herons are like the Catfish of the bird world, they will eat anything!!! I saw one eat a pigeon that was sat on the side of a pond in front of all these people,it was weird, and the poor little pigeon made such a noise!! wasn't nice

  • maybe what you saw is not a heron but a pelican instead.pelicans can eat pigeon easily because of their big strecthable mouth.

  • indeed my bad, you are 100% correct wrong big billed bird:)

  • hey thanks for clearing that up! I've never seen a Heron go near a pigeon so I wasn't sure. Pelicans are pretty cool though, wish we had them up here.

  • iv seen cormerads eat 12 to 15 inch walleye...they died tho

  • I've read that occasionally a heron will choke to death trying to eat a fish that is too large to swallow. Hope this one got his food all way down..

    Thanks for video.

  • Wow really?? that's not very smart.

I'm pretty sure this guy made it, I saw him fly away quite a few minutes after choking the fish down.

  • there's a heron where me and my cousins fish at. It would always watch us if we catch any fish and if we do it flies right next to us waiting for the fish. It even follows us when we move to a different fishing spot. Sometimes we feed the Heron as well. Very cool but sometimes really annoying.

  • really wow! that's actually kind of smart. I guess that Heron has become acclimated to having people around, and noticed they tend to come away with fish.

But yeah, usually they're not very bright!

  • herons r scary, when i was little they ate my pond goldfish :S

  • When i took my video of a heron catching then eating a fish it was at night time, but a much bigger fish. Thanks for sharing this video its clear and kewl.

  • yes the challenges of filming wildlife seem almost endless. Not being able to control light conditions, for example, can be a real problem! But you did a good job of following the bird with the camera, which can also be very difficult.

  • Great Vids! I am in Louisiana where we also have some beautiful birdlife, however your area is hard to beat! Good Job!

  • hehe! its neck is all fat! 5/5!

  • See? This is what happens when your eyes are bigger than your throat!

  • you may think we have nothing better to do but also you had nothing better to do but make this video

  • keta, plz ignore all those idiots who leave stupid comments. that was a great video

  • yes quite right!

they're just a couple of kids with nothing better going on in their lives so decided to bother me for a few days.

  • 2 me it looks like a small bird

  • thats a horshoe crab idiot

  • Moronic teenage loud-mouth idiots with nothing better to do than be annoying:

Just look at my latest video. It's full size screen captures of the FISH the Heron is eating.

Now kindly do shut up . . . in fact go away.

    -Keta

  • to me a small manta ray lol

  • idot it is not a fish

  • what?? yes it is, what are you talking about?

  • he a clown

  • Don't worry, for all I could say, it could be dedog56's brain it's obvious it is a fish

  • idiot it not a fish haha watever shut the fuck up retard

  • great video, i saw a heron eat a 8 inch or so brook trout in a stream on the side of the road once, i tried to take a pic too but was too slow :( congrats, nice capture of a once in a lifetime scene

  • awesome....

  • ok first of all , to much shaking and second , to much zooming in and out, besideds that , great

  • Oh I know! I had the camera for only a few weeks, so was still learning. Aside from that, I came around the corner to discover this scene; did not even have a chance to get set properly, or I would have missed it! And finally, the wind was blowing so hard it almost took the camera out of my hands.

Excuses I know. I think of this as a completely accidental capture of a moment of nature, and try not to dissect it too much (otherwise I would feel compelled to take it down!)

    -Keta

  • I see great blue herons a lot when I go up to Wells Maine

  • poor fishy...

  • that "poor fishy" had the death sentence in five systems

    also he doesn't like you

  • The prey almost looks like a horseshoe crab.

  • Batchylnuevos: thanks so much! what a great compliment.

jump654321 & budwirebaugh: the huge fish is in the Heron's mouth right at the beginning. then at 0:22 (when I first zoom out) the Heron starts to gulp it down. for the rest of the video the fish is slowly sliding down the Heron's throat!

  • I DONT SEE A HUGE FISH WHERE IS IT?

  • I'm moved by the poignancy of your piece; very suspenseful, brings to mind Hitchcock.

  • i dont see a big fish could yu point it out?

  • jump, he means its very wide

  • haha, yeah and I only just barely got the shot. Turned the corner and there he was . . I whipped the camera around (couldn't really set myself properly, that's why it's a bit shaky at first).

    I love nature . . . endless opportunities!

  • Wow, really a big big catch.
