The book Starship Troopers was written shortly after WW2 and it's evident that there are some essences of the time in it. I feel the movie did a good job of portraying the paranoia, propaganda and racism that came with the Pacific War in the 40's along with the cheesy bullshit media in the 50's.

In the original book (which is excellent, i recommend it), mobile infantery use power armor, and are quite walking tanks... (So they do not use tanks, as they are already armored).

When the book was adapted, power armors were dropped due to budget consideration.....:-)

Hah. Starship Troopers 2... it failed utterly. I'll admit, the first few minutes had me expecting a halfway-decent movie for a straight-to-DVD release, but it looks like i was horribly, horribly wrong. The hilltop battle and Dax's last stand were the only really decent points in the movie... the rest of it really doesn't deserve the title of SST2. Maybe as part of a minor story arc in some epic, 4-hour version, but not as a sequel in and of itself.
