Ol' James Randi exhaustively debunked the dowsers years ago, with multiple different scientific tests. Check out the Australia dowsing experiment on youtube. The dowsers predicted 95% accuracy and got about 10% or equivalent to chance.

@asderso Depending upon your question, or how you phrased your question, it's possible that a counter clockwise (or anti-clockwise) motion may mean indicate an "I don't know" or a "Unknown" answer.

I held it over a piece of brass, it swings on its own, over a piece of aluminium and I can feel the force like a magnet pull in the other direction. @Nightrazr Ok, I thought the same thing for years. But have discovered my grampa was a dowser that used a 3 pound pendulum. Mine is very large and made of steel. I held it over a piece of brass, it swings on its own, over a piece of aluminium and I can feel the force like a magnet pull in the other direction. Abby Mermet was a French priest who wrote the book on it. It is very accepted in most of Europe.

@henkvanderlaak There's nothing "magical" about dowsing. People dowse for water and have done it for centuries. The Catholic Church used dowsers in South America to establish missions. The guy they used lived in Rome and could find water on a map within an accuracy of 6 inches. Not everyone is that gifted, but it does exist. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If it doesn't work for you, then fine. It doesn't' cost anything. You can use a string and a ring. Free.

The numbers in your birth certificate are only supposed evidence, but you will not be able to prove to anyone that you were born on that day of your birth day, including by your mom witnessing it. Actually the point is that ITS YOUR hand Which SHOULD Move. Via pendulum you are able to detect YOUR deep subconscious response. This kind of dowsing is completely bogus. I was taught you could make the pendulum move in any direction you were thinking when I was 7 years old. They often use this trick to figure out if a pregnant woman is going to have a boy or girl. To be fair, it is about 50% accurate.
