I've heard this argument time after time. It usually happens when someone compares eras of long past to todays. While it would be plausible to say that the athletic ability of the players in the 50s and 60s can't compare to the players of the 90s and 2000s I think you are forgetting a few things...and that is that Jordan played againsts these very same players during the 90s (Kobe 1996, Kevin Garnett 1995). Yet, how is it possible that he was able to score 40-50 points against them?

If he came into the league today (with his younger self) it would still be harder, given the fact that you said that todays defense isn't the greatest, but look at the stardumed teams. They will go back to where they were in the mid 90s before LBJ came along. Near or at the bottom. Cavs didn't build enough for a championship and might never do so.

It would be nice to see LBJ with the Knicks but the events of 7/7 have proven that the Heat would be the best choice, but at the same time, he will be in the shadow of D-Wade cause its "his" team and when he goes to other spots that tried to court him, he will be booed. Especially Cleveland, he will be called a "traitor" for leaving.

king james is a "once in a generation" phenom. he has been fortunate enough to be able to live up to all the hype since he came into the league. all of these top tier players need team management that can craft a supporting cast to win championchips. like "they" say, teams win rings. you can rely on one guy a lot or one guy can carry a team but only for so long. hope he doesn't go out like sir charles or marino with no ring. "best ever" is subjective at best, there will always one in the wings.

Yea of course Lebron can rape a bad team. But against good teams he doesn't show up. Carmelo is the best scorer in the game today. He can shoot, post up, get to the stripe, or take you to the hole. He makes the toughest shots. Plus he's clutch, Lebron isn't.

I must say Jordan will ALWAYS be Jordan and he set such a trend and built such a legacy that Lebron will NEVER reach. People still wear Jordans like he plays every night. As far as cult following, Jordan has everyone beat. Now I must admit, Lebron is just on a diff tier, not necessarily above Jordan, but just on a diff tier. He is huge, strong and can dish the ball like Steve Nash. Lebron is a unique player but I wouldn't compare him to MJ, totally diff players. Kobe is not in the convo.

LBJ's my favorite player of the new era, but I don't recall him being on file at being able to run the 40 yrd dash consistently at 4.2 - 4.3 as MJ did in his prime. I also don't recall LBJ having a 48 inch vertical either, as MJ did in his prime.
Talk to me when LBJ has 4 of the Top 7 individual seasons of All Time..hes LIGHT YEARS away from MJ, and so is kobe.

Yes LBJ is an athletic beast, but the new def rules have MAGNIFIED his athleticism, because the new rules FAVORS it over skill. Ask yourself: how much of a "beast" would he be under the old def rules, where defenders could grab, hold AGGRESSIVELY get up on & up under him to hand-check or put a forearm on him, to keep him from CONSISTENTLY gettin' off CLEAN looks?
This is what MJ had to face..
LBJ would have a MUCH HARDER time against this. He'd be just another 20-25ppg, low FG% guy.

MJ's Bulls against any team Lebron has for the rest of his career would win and that is the reason why Lebron will never be numero uno. Until Lebron has 4 rings he carries Kobe's bags. Kobe is a better long-range shooter than Jordan, although. Jordan was always the leader of his teams. Kobe had to follow Shaq, with all his bad shot selection as a teenager -- before he could lead.

Yeah, i think that has a lot to do with Kobe's physique. Meaning that he's not built to drive to the basket and twist and turn like Mike. So, he relied on his long arms and longer torso to extend from a distance. And because of this Kobe would avoid driving and instead just pull up for the long shot since both paid off just as much. But paying off for Kobe and Jordan are two different things.Mike could shoot 50% from the field.Kobe never.That tells you alot about their abilities.

@gizmo2084 well, I know I am gonna get flamed for this. But Michael, although he is a great player, was just a bigger dude. Nobody in his time frame could guard him because there was nobody else in the NBA that had his height and speed (LeBron pretty much has the same size as him, just a lil buffer). Today, you got bigger and buffer dudes in the NBA that make it harder for stars like Kobe and LeBron to shine like Michael did. I guess you can say, Michael played in an... easier time frame.

mainly because, like I said, nobody had the sheer size and speed to defend him. Now if old Michael came into the NBA around this time, he wouldn't have the fame he would now. He would be a good player, great one to be exact, but with all of the upgraded competition and bigger, stronger kids comin into the league now, it would be hard to compete. Now Kobe and Lebron's case, in all honesty, Kobe still takes the cake. He's smaller than Lebron, but drapes shots over a whole team

I've heard this argument time after time. It usually happens when someone compares eras of long past to todays. While it would be plausible to say that the athletic ability of the players in the 50s and 60s can't compare to the players of the 90s and 2000s I think you are forgetting a few things...and that is that Jordan played againsts these very same players during the 90s (Kobe 1996, Kevin Garnett 1995). Yet, how is it possible that he was able to score 40-50 points against them?

@gizmo2084 Well, before we can say that Michael will adapt to todays changes in basketball, I still bring up the question that would he still be able to run over teams like he used to. If he came into the league today (with his younger self) it would still be harder, given the fact that you said that todays defense isn't the greatest, but look at the stardumed teams. I still fail to see Michael running all over today's Celtics or today's Lakers. Mainly because you got more athletic dudes.

I remember seeing a game when Michael was still in the league and they were facing the 76ers. This was back when Allen Iverson had entered the league (and this kinda brings up your Steve Nash point).
