no thats not how it works...you basically need a flame to ignite gas...ive fucked around with it flicking cigarette butts into gas buckets and shit and it just goes out. ive made trails and stuff and tried the same thing
just to clear up the argument a few comments down, when you crash the car into the pump the lights might break theres a spark point, metal on metal impact creates a spark. and also it does look fake

Gas ignites with heat. Not impact. Shoot a gun at a gas tank and you'll get nothing. You would need to get gas on the engine, which would not be an instant event, and would likely take a few seconds to get in it and ignite. Who's really stupid now?
