the memories of jamming of this song and rolling around Reseda and San Fernando back in the day. Funny how you relate a song to a certain time in your life. Ahhh, to be 16 again.....
Nice try at sarcastic humor but it doesn't fly here, I love the Minneapolis Sound and it's musical pallete and I don't have the right to bring my childhood memories to a song I like. GTFOH dumbass.
I know what this is, you are a Prince fan and nobody can talk about anyone else especially other musicians who worked with him without giving the "Purple One" props. Prince fans like you are worse than Micheal Jackson fans with your insults on fans and other artists.Prince doesn't need a publicist like you to promote his music and everyone knows the Minneapolis Sound is his creation, but others have contributed and made even better music in this genre.
JUST LIKE PARLIMENT AND FUNKIDELICS FUELD AND INSPIRED DR. DRE. THIS MUSIC AND ALL THE MUSIC ON TRACKCHEF CHANNEL INSPIRES MY HIP-HOP AND FUNK TRACKS...
when i was just 10 my uncle had this 2toned painted black white old model car and he had this playing i loved it right away oh those were the good ol days for music it was good days period!
My days running the streets I was a young man of 34 yrs doing the do. Playing and doing the wild side of life. I'am now a man of age 60 and turn to the Lord which I should have done a long time ago. We loose site of ourself in youth..
I remember, well. I was torn between Prrince and Jesse...of course, Prince won, hands down. But I was just at odds...drawing on my face, wearing colors that my my mom thought were inappropriate... it was a screaming match for 3 whole years, lol! And then, suddenly, I was 18 years old and had my own car..to be continued........
Yo, fire up the MOTHERSHIP lol, I'm ret to do the Prince split's to get back to 85 :) yo, I'd even take my ol trench coat and skinny leather tie and get a couple of my partna's who rolled wit da Prince look and wore da eyeliner wit they high yella self's lol, man, I miss being back then !

I'm proud to have heard this growing up. JJ was sooo good looking, and so talented. This takes me back to Job Corps. First time away from home at 17. :)
I'm proud to have heard this growing up. JJ was sooo good looking, and so talented. Too bad he had substance abuse and anger problems. Fame can eat you up if you let it, just like anything. Love you JJ.
@beautifulgirl95100 - not true, prince is a baddd guitar player, I would say him and Johnson are equal when it comes to playing the guitar, but the thing that sets prince apart from people is that he could play so many damn instruments, his early days it was mostly him playin all the instruments. but don't be fooled the little man could play some guitar!!! lol
Memories! I was probably about 13 summer time and my cousin and I would cruise around the hood in her little red Ford Escort and she was always blasting this. And yes both of us had Jheri Curls. Lol great times. Man I miss 80's music.
this one take me back to middle school when I was into music in the worse way. I would record the songs of the radio then go back and listen to them so I could write down the words and learn every song. Gosh it was great. It was some great times when this music was out!
JESSE JOHNSON IS A VERY TALENTED PERSON ALWAYS AND FOREVER GREAT MUSUCIAN FROM MINNEA POLIS RIGHT UP THERE WITH PRINCE AND JIMMY JAM AND TERRY LEWIS U BETTA ASK SOMEBODY
Mekoflyy we got to tell these fools that music comes from the heart and not always from the streets me and my brother kev rocked this in NC back in the day even when folks weren't feelin it and thats what we got to do today
I got more pussy than most by listening and being able to play keyboards to this music period. You could not get any pussy unless you were a Prince fan.
Man somebody come back with me to 1985 when this was out. I was a freshmen in H.S. and The Minneapolis Connection ruled the airways. Pop, Rock and R/B. Yes Michael Jackson was the bomb too with Thriller. But Thriller ruled in 1983. But when Prince came out with Purple Rain in 1984, that really started the rule of The MInneapolis Connection. Who wants to go back with me. Hey lets even take a trip to Minneapolis and visit that club 5th Ave.
@awalker773 Yeah these were the glory days. Sporting the kangol on backwards with shades on - my single gold chain and my sweet smelling cologne -freshman year in college. Started that year off with the waves in my hair - ended it with the bald look. Yeah the bald look was in BEFORE Jordan started shaving his head - if you played B-Ball in the midwest.
This my friends is the result of a group of musicians with true talent pulling it together! Just listen to each and every instrument! Played with precision and gusto. There is nothing today that even can compare! Why can't we have these days again? Clubbin' with the ladies and dressin' to impress! I'm gonna bring it back in the very near future!
Yo everyone when this was out, I was a freshman in high school (Birmingham Alabama). I wish I could go back so bad. The whole entire Minneapolis crew was the bomb. And I am with you str8outtatexas. Ict T made a comment about the 80's being wack. I was very dissapointed in him making that statement, especially when he was in both Breakin Movies. anyway, bring me back my 80's. I would love to open up a club here in Atlanta that play only 80's and 90's music.
Me and my brother(who's a pastor now) used to sneak snippets of r&b songs in church back in the 80s. The older members wouldn't catch it but my other 2 brothers and cousins did. I played drums and he played keyboards. This was one of the songs we incorporated. Lord forgive us...
@arkansoul hilarious I'm sure you were not the only one I do it from time to time keep Christ to the forefront and play with character and integrity and stay true to the music past. keep playin'
@MrJP75 LMAO!!! My grandmother and parents would have crucified us if we even thought about trying to make a living off mixing gospel and secular music together. We did it because our folks didn't listen to r&b so we could get away with it. GOD heard us though...
@arkansoul - Take away the lyrics and the music is incredible. I love music, I thank God for it, I know He's given talent to so many who've lost their way....but.....I was never ever impressed or even acknowledged the words to many R&B songs. For example, I would listen to Aaron Hall sing with Guy just to hear his voice. You'd be surprised where most R&B artists come from....BTW, I've heard musicians in the church incorporate parts of R&B songs as they were playing.
@PhillyChickNaomi I feel the same way. I never really cared for many lyrics. I always listened to the drummers first, the vocals, then the actual music. Me, two of my brothers, and a college friend had an r&b group from 1995-2000. We didn't get a deal...my brother/producer was called to preach and we pretty much let it go. But I think of music everyday. I can't quite let it go for good. Music flows from person to person...genre to genre. It will continue to fuse into itself.
Ya'll are cracking me up with the Jheri Curl references, my moms wanted me to have one and I just couldn't, lol. Loved this song back in the day. (Doing the Snake)
VERY FEW RAPPERS CAN PLAY AN INSTRUMENT ,DONT EVEN PUT SHEET MUSIC IN FRONT OF THEM . THE HATTERS SHOULD LEAN TO PLAY SOMETHING OR GET A RECORD DEAL BEFORE THEY TRY TO COMMENT ABOUT ANYBODY ELSE"S MUSICAL TALENT. SELLING DOPE AND LYP SINGING ISNT A TALENT
JESSE WAS AND STILL IS THE SHIT!!!! sIMPLE AS THAT! aIN'T NOT ONE RAPPER CAN COMPARE 2 A SONGWRITER/MUSICIAN PERIOD THEY AINT EVEN ON THE SAME LEVEL!!!! RAPPERZ AINT SHIT COMPARED TO JESSE END OF STORY!!!
There are some foolish people posting comments. It was just costume. Music was always intertwined with fashion. They went from psychedelic 60's through to the 70's when it went to disco. Next was "glam" of the 80's. From Rock to R&B, the look was worn. There are numerous R&B acts who didn't wear those styles but are gay. I guess Dr. Dre is gay too. Seems like a waste of time to on a person vid (who you claim is gay) just to hate. Why not skip the video? More should be going on in your lives!
OMG!!!! Lmbaol!!!! I was getting ready to graduate from the 8th grade at I.S. 74 in The Bronx when this joint came out on both 98.7 Kiss FM(WRKS) and 107.5 FM(WBLS). Listening to this now makes me think of my days as a newschooler.
man i'm so sick of hearing some uneducated, thug ass, shitty rap loving (2000's) punk ass bitch talking shit about artist from the 70's 80's or early 90's. calling these cats fags, bitches, homo's ect.. is just plain ignorance & stupidity. that's why i don't listen too 90% of the garbage they produce today.man that was the look & style back then.it was cool as hell back then and females loved brothers who dressed to impress, unlike thugs today with their asses showing in clothes 4X their size.stfu
@str8outtatexas1 tell him texas!!! these posers these days don't even play instruments 10 bitches with 10 microphones and you still can't make out the so -called lyrics!!! WORD!!!
@MrRayven99 -you're right brah. just a bunch of goons sagging, shirts off, dreads, baseball caps and not singing or rapping about anything that can make you fall in love with the song. shitty ass voices, shitty beats that all sound alike and a influx of ignorance and stupid people eating this new garbage up. There's alot of artist like jaheim, raheem devaughn,ne-yo,usher,keshia coles, & others whom i love their music, but alot of this garbage is just what it is GARBAGE.
@str8outtatexas1 You are so right! AND: half of the ones they call those names and diss are the very same ones who's hooks many rappers have sampled in some of their songs. This dude HERE, his look, his whole STYLE and his guitar playing was inDEED The BOMB! There's absolutely nothing as good as 80's R&B! (Even the 80's Top 40 is better that the stuff they put out today!). I'm with you!
@str8outtatexas1 I agree with ya 100 percent my man. I'm playing my guitar along with this song right now...how many of these brain dead auto tune junkies can even fathom an idea of how to play an instrument and come up with something original?
I guess the only thing understood is todays lyrics: Generic "song"" B*th get on my d*ck (Autotune garbled) Weed is my best friend Can't wait to see him again Pull down 'yo panties so I can see 'Yo bubble butt H*e! (Autotune garbled) Back out of jail did time like a snail Robbed a likker sto' then smakked a h*e! (Autotune garbled) Back to the block to slang mo' rock To the seeds in grammar - school (Autotune garbled) Etc Etc Etc..... That what you guys prefer
Dead Mic...lol another one of these so called educated .. smart niggas who listen to rappers.. instead of finding shit out for themselfs. i bet if i hide a hundred dollar bill in a book in your house you would never find it .. this is about the music.. not a place for u to step up on you platform of discovery. Yea we wore jerri curls be your music will soon be forgotten ours is classic
I got to see Jesse Johnson perform this at the Fox Theater in St Louis, MO in 1985. He got down and it was snowing outside. It was worth the risk in that weather.
lmas, I had this album when it first dropped, and I'm just now seeing he WAS looking just like Little Richard! That one got past me for a long time....
i'm a 15 year old multi-instrumental black musician and I am obssesed with the 80's music especially the minneapolis sound. Jesse's vocals on the chourus are so slick and colorful

MrRayven99 8 months ago
@MrRayven99 -you're right brah. just a bunch of goons sagging, shirts off, dreads, baseball caps and not singing or rapping about anything that can make you fall in love with the song. shitty ass voices, shitty beats that all sound alike and a influx of ignorance and stupid people eating this new garbage up. There's alot of artist like jaheim, raheem devaughn,ne-yo,usher,keshia coles, & others whom i love their music, but alot of this garbage is just what it is GARBAGE.

@str8outtatexas1- That cause they know nothing about real music and real talent. How can a person know about something that they do not have? ;)
feminineandfeisty 5 months ago 2
@str8outtatexas1 You are so right! AND: half of the ones they call those names and diss are the very same ones who's hooks many rappers have sampled in some of their songs. This dude HERE, his look, his whole STYLE and his guitar playing was inDEED The BOMB! There's absolutely nothing as good as 80's R&B! (Even the 80's Top 40 is better that the stuff they put out today!). I'm with you!
MamaNuveau 4 months ago
@str8outtatexas1 I agree with ya 100 percent my man. I'm playing my guitar along with this song right now...how many of these brain dead auto tune junkies can even fathom an idea of how to play an instrument and come up with something original?

Dead Mic...lol another one of these so called educated .. smart niggas who listen to rappers.. instead of finding shit out for themselfs. i bet if i hide a hundred dollar bill in a book in your house you would never find it .. this is about the music.. not a place for u to step up on you platform of discovery. Yea we wore jerri curls be your music will soon be forgotten ours is classic

I got to see Jesse Johnson perform this at the Fox Theater in St Louis, MO in 1985. He got down and it was snowing outside. It was worth the risk in that weather.
