The voice over is a mate of mine called Dan. He did once look into getting a job as an HTV announcer because he found their announcements so dull, but it's quite a cliquey world to get into from what he could gather.
The idea was to make it look like this was something that had been recovered from a damaged old tape and then copied and sent from person to person on VHS. So, I damaged the original tape and copied it back and forth a few times from one tape to another with a little bit of tracking offset.
In a parallel universe, Television West is still a force to be reckoned with! Great logo and the animated ident at the end of the start-up is truly magnificent, especially when the T appears in the three triangles. It had the hairs going on the back of my neck. As good as, if not better than the spoof ident for Talkback at the end of Look Around You which you can tell is a blatant copy of Southern!
In a parallel universe, the IBA would never have been abolished, Thames Television would never have lost its franchise, the ITV companies would never have merged, and seeing the success of BBC America, the IBA would have started a service stateside with Coronation Street, The Bill, etc...
What lets a lot of mocks down is the, shall we say, less than professional standard of the continuity announcers voices, which really kills the suspension of disbelief for me at least.
This is definitely not one of those mocks, I'm happy to say!
Very believable, and, along with the related ident/clock video, this is the best mock I've seen on this site. The timing of the ident animation with the musical climax was a neat touch.
Change one thing? Perhaps bring the bridge image in at 1:20 to match better with the music's transition.
The music is reminiscent of 'Sportsnight' - another BBC Big Band offering? Either way, a good choice for the era.

If you've a copy of the soundtrack to 'The Full Monty', you'll know what the tune is. Although, that version has a slightly different ending to the one I've used here, which is from an old Library record.
Hmmm, back in the 1970s I think even regional stations would have required announcers to use the long "a" of so-called received pronunciation, making the "cas" in "broadcasting" rhyme with "cars". Other than that... very authentic!
You and your friend are amazing! I hope to see you do a closedown!

If you're gonna mock, mock the year right...Monday the 22nd of September would have fallen in 1981, not 1980. :D

@thirtymphs I can't remember now if that was a deliberate mistake or what :D

This is pretty effing good. Dan's voice is great.

I would like to see the clean version too if that's possible?

It's amazing what you can do with nothing but the simplest jump cuts and fade-in-and-outs, and some degrading.

He's fantastic. He sounds like a professional announcer. I'd hire him for sure.

How do you do that "authentic multi-generation tape artifact"effect?

I got to admit this is an excellent job.

You know, that could have been real!
The use of a real Schools clock and YTV ident simply added to the realism.

Damn, I thought this was real. Such an authentic late 70s continuity

Perhaps the most authentic retro mock set to be found on this site; totally believable.
The well-timed ident animation at the intro music's climax is a neat touch.
Change one thing? Perhaps cut to the bridge scene just a little later at 1min20 - it might match the transition in the music better.
The music is reminiscent of that used for 'Sportsnight'. Another BBC Big Band offering?
