  • Who was the president joke aimed at?

  • @redsox1006 In 1988, Ronald Reagan was president, and George Bush (senior) was running against Michael Dukakis.

  • thank goodness they're unlike all those right-wing folk singers.

  • Too bad they became flaming libs.

  • @forrestgomez Became? They were always flaming liberals. That's part of what made them so good, and why they were kicked off CBS in 1969.

  • Brings back such great memories! I can imagine that if they would have another reunion (if only) they'd look and act exactly the same.

Tommy's timing is spot on ain't it?

  • @fergy429 i saw a relatively recent interview with them on Craig Ferguson (here on youtube), they're both completely white now but their timing was as brilliant at ever.

And yes, Tommy is spot on. It's an irony that you have to be really smart to play dumb that well.

  • still today, awesome as ever...... if the world would just listen, laugh and enjoy life

  • Tom Smothers overcame dyslexia while Dick Smothers overcame a childhood accident to become two of the best entertainers/musicians/comedians of our time. Dick fell out of the hatch door of the family car when he was three. He suffered a skull fracture and lost hearing in his left ear.

  • And their comedy is so relavent today! Its amazing!

  • These guys always crack me up.

  • I LOVE THEM! Always have, always will. We need more comedy like this..good, clean, comedy!

  • I had the good fortune to meet Tom and Dick at the Turningstone Casino on March 4th 2000. And yes, Tom is the same way off the stage as when he is on the stage. They were great that night..... and I got their autographs. My thanks again.

Tom and Dick, 'we the people' miss The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. You did good, both of you. Happy retirement. You both are still #1 in comedy. Everyone else since took your cue and carried on.

  • Wow !!!Forgot how good they were/are. Thanks so much for this video, and YouTube for all the Smothers Bros sketches."Brill". Check out the American Guild D55 !!! I think Tom was the first ever to own one back in the 60s. The best sounding acoustic guitar ever...........

  • Wish they had done a 40 year reunion back in 2008. Almost evreything they did was incredibly original and funny.

  • Back when TV was worth watching...

  • true comedy, their singing awesome,

  • If you're a fan , read the book "Dangerously Funny"

  • @catdude57 I just bought that book! It's really good!

  • Excellent video clip!

  • love the line"some of em did" :) awesome duo

  • I used to go to sleep every night to a Bill Cosby record and then a Smothers Brothers record when I was young. There needs tobe more team comedians like these guys.

  • Give these guys their show back!

  • I heard Howard Stern say, about the 20th reunion show,"What's the Big Deal?" He should count his blessings for these guys!! I haven't really listened to Stern since that idiotic comment!!

  • @Nickcat5 what is it to hear Stern say anyways ?

  • This was the late 80's and I still found his show amusing. Then he made that statement and I pretty much just turned him off. Once in a while I would tune in, but It got old , redundant & predictable so I just cut it out all together.

  • @alwayssme I was a listener THEN,Just felt he overstepped it. I used to enjoy his show,But that and a few other things sort of turned me away. Tom & Dick were great and didn't seem so self-absorbed . Fans of REAL comedy know the difference.

  • @Nickcat5 back then it wasnt so much reality , vulgarity etc, this was true comedy i think, like the ole dick van dyke show, and more recently whose line is it anyway

i hve never laughed out loud b4 those shows.... ty for replying

  • @Nickcat5 - Yeah, Stern has made a lot of idiotic comments and remarks, and one of the reasons he has lost so much of his audience - me included. I have no idea how he stays on the air.

  • Those were the days!

  • "...or know people who are members of families..." LMAO!

I have laughed at these guys since I was in grade 5, waaaay back in 1960. They just get funnier all the time. GREAT COMEDY!

  • I met the Smothers Brothers in March of 2000. And yes Tom is just as funny and nutty as on their TV show. That is a complement. They were just as great that night as they were years ago. Plus.... I finally got their autographs.

  • luv these guys, i find myself most nights watching their clips b4 i go to sleep,,,,,, a nice happy time to remember

  • its time for the 40th yr reunion,,, where is it, that would be the ultimate

  • I remember the opening to this had Tom and Dick in a helicopter landing at Century City. They said something like "Tom Wolfe was wrong, you can go home again." After they said this a guy with a bazooka is shown at the heliport and he fires at the Smothers helicopter as they begin to scream.

  • That was FUNEEEEEEE!!!!

  • Anyone got more footage from this reunion show, post it. Hilarious.

  • I want everyone to write CBS and ask them to re-run the entire series.

  • Omg, yes~!! Yes! :D

  • @ianjcameron Revolution!!! Bring back the show!

Dude, I'm FULL on with that. Loved these guys, growing up as a kid, and they're still great.

  • @ianjcameron maybe TVland can put this show back on air,

  • Still great 20 years later.

  • @jayraskin still great over 40 yrs later, they are timeless, awesome comedy team

  • Wow, does Tom remind you of Bush or what! I remember catching a bit of them on the air as a wee child. Over my head, but I remember my folks laughing.

  • right now "I'm wearing a condom" lmao

40s ago that was taboo, canya imagine?? lol

  • u r right those were the days , true comedy, good variety shows, and such good clean fun, these guys were the best ,now adays people think vulgar is funny or stupid is funny, or just plain out bad shows with bad comedy

  • "Jizzed in mah pants"

  • Those were the days, my friends!

  • where's part 2?

  • lmao , thats playin part 1 twice lol

  • "the running for president" gag is seems even funnier to me now after all the "stupid fool" presidential candidates we've seen in the last 40 years!

  • im guessing u remember Pat Paulsen , running for president, and he announced it , i think during the smothers brothers show..... wow what awesome times back then

  • Didn't Pat Paulson announce his candidacy during Laugh In?

  • you may be right , over 30+ decades ago, its hard to remember,

  • especially since hee looks like bush

  • Pure genius. They set the standard for so much, from comedic timing to stretching the limits in every direction. We owe them. Thanks.

  • THANK YOU!

I've looked for these videos for years.

    They are absolutely the best!
