This would of been the ideal music just before the Enterprise-E met the the Scimitar for the first time in Nemesis I can picture Picard walking up and down the bridge with this theme
Very good video!!!!!!!! You probably already asked you this: that in this and all the soundtrack lacks the part where Chang waits the torpedo launched by the Enterprise, when he says "To be or not be ".....????????
The BEST theme from the TUC soundtrack. I can almost hear the BOP cloaking at the beginning, or the Enterprise and Excelsior firing weapons at the end!
@TheInspector3000 yeah, would have been better just to let them ride off into the sunset, or have had Kirk simply 'disappear' with no knowledge of his whereabouts. Anything's better than dropping a bridge on him.
This movie came out at the right time, the end of the Cold War, because it reflects the end of the fictional Cold War between the Federation and the Empire, a recurring theme in the Original Series, just as we had the Cold War between the US and USSR. It was a perfect Shakespearean reflection of real events.
"I can see you Kirk, can you see me? Oh now be honest Captain. You do prefer it this way, as it was meant to be. No peace in our time. Once more unto the breach, dear friends" - The legend that was General Chang.
General Chang -"Have you not a sense of decency in you Kirk? We come in peace, and you blatenly defile that peace! and for that, I shall BLOW you out of the stars!"
This one and Nemesis was the same. Both enterprises were mutilated by heavy fire and minus one crew member except one dies and the other one captains a ship of his own. If I were to do a remake of this, I'd make the battle more thrilling and half the enterprise's saucer section would be blown clean off. Now that would be the best and quite interesting.
Cliff should continue composing more film scores. Last film score was HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. I keep seeing it as his latest composition. No updates! What's taking so long? If it's his last, FUCK IT!
I guess Horner would say that he used up his ideas and enthusiasm in doing such a good job on the first two Trek movies he scored. It's hard for a composer to keep writing for the same series of films. John Barry is the best example of being able to provide several quality scores for one film series: the Bond movies. I used to wish Jerry Goldsmith would return to Star Trek after the first and fifth films, but when he did for 8, 9 and 10 (continued)
The producers, especially Rick Berman, wanted a more low key, functional style of music for First Contact, Insurrection & Nemises and I think Goldsmith also started to loose some enthusiasm and inspiration as well. The new Star Trek movie has the same kind of musical approach imposed on the composer and I think Star Trek needs bolder music.
Goldsmith... loose... enthusiasm where is your head. He is the best. Beter than any of the Star trek composers out there. He always had a new style for each of the films he did and that is even outside of the star Trek franchise.
Chopperpilot5, I'm saying this as a lifelong fan of Jerry Goldsmith. Goldsmith's scores after 1992 showed a lack of his previous creativity and detail in the orchaestrations. His string writing became sometimes bland and unimaginative and he reused motifs in several films. Partly this was due to less time alloted by the studio to write the scores, but he alos indicated he was tired of writing thrillers and action films.
There are still some great scores (Mulan, First Knight, 6 Degrees of Seperation, The Edge, etc) but I was shocked when I first heard the end titles to L.A. Confidential: nearly all the uniqueness and complexity of his music was gone. The 1990's was the start of a generalised approach to film music that was functional and low-key and almost interchangeable at times. I also thought ST Nemesis was a very ordinary score.
Goldsmith tried to find different kinds of films to score but the results were mixed. Goldsmith started the 1990's with The Russia House and Total Recall, but adopted a different approach afterwards. Some socres were still great (Basic Instinct, Mulan, 6 Degrees of Seperation and First Knight) but many were average (U.S. Marshalls, ST Nemesis, Malice) and since I grew up with Goldsmith scores of the 1970's and 1980's, this new approach was often disappointing and a bit dispiriting at times.
Sulu: Come on, come on.
Excelsior Helmsman: She'll fly apart!
Sulu (with a very Kirk-Like statement): Fly her apart, then!

this is truely where the TOS crew should have ended, screw generations, it was a bad first film for TNG and a really bad way to kill off kirk.

It's a pity that the KITUMBA concept for the Klingon Empire hadn't been used. It would actually make for a better story on the big screen.
