  • Roger can handle the high notes. He has a great voice anyway.

  • 5:38 Pete does karate.

  • just realized i have beautiful close up glossy photos from roger at this show. one that he signed. they're beautiful and so is this video. great quality!! maybe i'll post them on my facebook page-

  • There's video of Keith talking to Keith Richards on the way up the stairs to this gig.

I'd love to have heard *that* conversation!

  • Damn that was epic. Wish it would have been included in the "Kids are All Right" movie.

  • this is one of my fav Who songs. Also, if I ave to listento other than album for this song it's this version. Brilliant!!

  • High as fuck

  • I was fortunate enough to be there at the time... great festival and gig by the one and only Who..... les mayers

  • @qikfire you lucky m.........ker

  • one of my favorites from Quadrophenia. Thanks for the post!

  • thank you for the upload.

  • so yeah..i held that guitar at a festival in my area...fucking AMAZING

  • Amazing. Isn't this edited down though? Pretty sure on my bootleg of this gig its about 9 mins long

  • I was at this gig but we had to leave before the Who finished because of the last train. Bad Co, Maggie Bell, Lindisfarne, Humble Pie, Montrose, Lou Reed were the other bands on that day at the Valley. It was as as good as it looks, even better!

Keith lived near us in Chertsey in his wedding cake house.

  • Moon was all over this one. Brilliant.

  • Ox's black Fenderbird!!!

  • I was there.!!! selling beer to the crowd over the fence, wow what memories.... thanks for sharing..

  • Pete is so wasted...

    ...There ain't no way out.

  • Man, I would cut off my ear just to go back in time and watch The Who at their best! In the 60's and 70's!

  • John only wore that suit so that he can get a decent amount of camera time. Because if you notice in their other concerts, you rarely see him at all.

  • LOL pete's so wasted and he sings with a toothpick, rather tunefully

  • John is playing the shit out of that bass

  • wow, a master of guitar tone,,and a unforgetable band.

  • wow its loud.

  • How is it possible that Entwistle found all those amazing jackets?!?

  • Later on that show Pete calls him "the man in the horrible jacket" XD

  • Amazing what one will say when deeply jealous...lol

  • we don't see guitar like this anymore. or bands like them :,(

  • John and the black Fenderbird, BRAVO!

  • The best sounds Entwistle did, where on that Bass IMO.

  • Daltery looks like a majorette

  • This is one of the few vids of "Drowned" with Roger on vocals. They should have used for "Kids Are Alright". By the way, it looks like Pete has a toothpick or a cigarette in his mouth.

  • love it with either one singing. have y'all seen the secret policeman's ball video with pete singing and playing acoustic?

both john and pete are well pissed here.

  • why were they pissed ?

  • british term for drunk

  • haha, yeah John and Pete were wasted. But Moonie looked pretty together for a change lol

  • Wasted or not, John played great.

  • @alberto077 im pretty sure he wasn't wasted he wouldn't have been able to play because he would have zoned out.

  • what does pete have in his mouth at 5:21?!

  • most likely his pick cause after that he doesnt have it and in that part hes fingerpicking

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!

  • i love the way the all play their own solos almost

  • the kick at 5:38! awesome stuff

  • This wans't there "Quadrophenia" tour. They had already abandoned playing a lot of Quad to the technical difficulties and played just a few numbers from it. This was one of the 3 Big Stadium Clubs they played in England between 74 and 76. Not part of a "tour".

  • Everyone realizes the cue was off and Keith just fades it out, this is why I LOVE this bloody fucking band (haha) because they are human.

Long live rock...the Pete goes on.

  • ¿Who is the best band ever? I think The Ramones. But The Beach Boys, The Doors, The Kinks , AC/DC and The Who are the best too... Ummmm, Well... I can't explain: LONG LIVE ROCK!

  • i wouldn't have picked any of those bands.... no where near close.... not even on a long shot...

  • IF I had to pick my favorite who song it would be this one(tough choice)for the following reasons:

    -Two delicious bridges.

-the subject matter of the words

    -the upbeat fast tempo.

-This song worked live!(Who are you and Join Together are great, but ever heard a good live version?) Anybody with me on this??

  • pj- i saw them in nyc 1974 and i can say the entire show was kick ass- my favorite song was this one and the naked eye- wont get fooled again was quite awesome as well-

  • Saw one of the NYC shows, too. Unfortunately, it was the night they walked out during Punk/Godfather. But, up until then I was blissed

  • blondtele i didnt know they did that....i know they played 4 nights i believe i saw them tuesday and thursday, but i cant be sure.....peace

  • wasnt this the LOUDEST ROCK CONCERT ever , until that day? more than a boeing. wow !

  • No, the loudest show they did was at Charlton in 1976. This one is in 1974.

  • buc- i always thought deep purple got the loudest rock concert title, but i could be wrong

  • This is truly rock! This song is suprubly well done!

  • i dont care what they say you cant wack the who.

  • to sarfend4ever

I was there in 74 right near the front. Agree with everything you say inc band line up. Liked Bad co & humble pie.

Just watching Moonie catch the drumsticks was worth admission money.Who were great. Also remember trying to get home after. No buses, trains we spent the night on Blackheath.Wish I was 16 again! Cheers Sam

  • Wasn't a "Rock n' Roll Animal" era Lou Reed playing at Charlton too? I always saw him on that famous show poster.

  • There's never been more talent amassed on one stage with just 4 men.

  • Agreeed- argue all you want about this and that but these were they best four musical talents in one group in rock/pop history.

  • yah i was just thinking that:D

  • Love Moon's kit here! Poor Roger...why did Pete write songs with high notes? Just to piss Roger off? :)

  • @johnisallin lookin' for one way, its bad.. other way..the music is so great!

  • QUADROPHENIA! YES! i love this album! The Who live..........ASTOUNDING!

  • superb. simply amazing.

  • Ahh! those heady days with Rodge, Pete ,Keef & John.

Attended both '74 & '76 gigs, some of my greatest Rock moments. Second one was the Loudest outdoor gig ever.

Big mirrors half up the floodlights in the 4 corners of the ground ,reflected amazing laser images.

We were stoned & dazed!(for days!).

The Ooo! ,greatest 'live' band ever.

  • I saw both shows too and was trying to remember the bands for 74 -- no chance remembering 76 if you see what I mean. I think it was Montrose, Bad Company's first gig, Lindisfarne, Humble Pie, Lou Reed, Maggie Bell and then a blur and then the Who. Any idea if there's a complete show recording or DVD -- I know the Who hated their performance but can't for the life of me see why. They were just awesome (but they always were).

  • Thanks for this post!

The Who will always be special to me like the Stones, very distinct sounding songs. You always know it's them

  • I agree

    ROCK ON DUDES N DUDETTES

  • There is a special place in heaven dedicated to anybody who puts these rare Who videos on YouTube...THANK YOU.

  • if interested in trade/swap/purchase i have this concert on a 2 dvd set...classic who...more never released who dvd's available plus dvd's of the 70/80's from the stones, seger, springsteen, johnny winter, talking heads, pretenders, dylan 30th show, neil young, entire vote for change show with rem and springsteen, dave matthews band, hendrix, aerosmith, j taylor and many more...SEND YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS TO ME VIA YOUTUBE MESSAGES OR DIRECT TO ME VIA AOL WITH USERNAME for full list and details
