did you use a fuzz pedal during the chorus? it almost sounds like you were overloading your single coil with distortion.

cant really over distort sound from a single coil it just depends on the output that you're pups can handle. there are even single coil pups that have more output than hb's,

the odd distortion can come from many different things other than pups such as the recorder he is using (it may not adapt to extra bass easily) it could be that the pedal is not set up to sound more profound than the amp, it could also be the amp settings the pedal must override, or it could be the amp speaker, etc.
