@hapshhh That is not a stock 3 series BMW. That is a BMW race tuned by their M division, which is similar to Ford's SVT, & they put it up against a stock mustang. They went first in the mustang & became familiar with the track before switching to the BMW, & were still barely able to pull a win out. The standard mustang boss would have beaten the BMW by over a second, & the LS edition of the boss would have demolished it by over 2 seconds. You are lucky they chose the stock mustang.

@zamamattiolo $7400 for 525HP one with warranty, They go up to 750 HP but without warranty. The base 525 also has a Ford Racing pulley and tune for 1k that nets another 100hp
@Kanon081 Dinan doesn't offer a supercharger for the M3. They do offer a stroked & bored engine that costs 26k without installation and still makes less power than the blown 5.0.

I hate to speak bad words but I think Randy is fuckin wrong!! Mustang was never the "under dog" it was just competing in a lower class. That is now why the mustang is almost twice the price than it was back in 1997. Am a fan of BMW but I got to say that Ford kicked their ass so badly with the new 5.0 Stang for much less price. The BM would only win in the interior crap, that is it.
The mustang wins only due to its 2012 update the M3 was developed in 2006 and has gained weight due to new technologies wait until the 2014 M3 hits it'll have nearly 500 horse and will weigh a lot less due to better integration.
Well I'm convinced the M3 drives better; that it's much more nimble and sharp. The M3 also seems like the ideal everyday driver. There's no denying though, the Mustang can hang with an M3 on the highway, canyon road, and drag strip. Go for the M3 if you can afford to but you're really not settling with the Mustang. Good for Ford.
@Buttnut105 I don't know about being more nimble, but i would defantly say it is alot more composed and planted. The M3 is designed more for high speed stablilty and percision. Due to its better handling balance i would say the mustang would be more nimble. The mustang has powertrain that makes alot more sense in the real world, power is what wins on the race track, but torque is what you want for everyday driving. Plus the mustang gets 6 mpg more on the highway....

@1997cobracommander Nope, not quite, the boss 302 cost 41,105 dollars including it's destination charge. the m3, over 60K, that's gt500, roush, and steeda territory right there. Refinement cost a lot of cash.
A lap difference like that can easily be made up with more driver time. Throw in a tire and shock swap and it's game over for the M3. You simply can't justify the $25k difference with "intangibles" like interior quality and other non-performance factors. I have been and will continue to be a GM buyer but these new 5.0 Mustangs don't make it easy to stay with the fold - props to Ford, they got this one right.

The testers complained about axle hop off the line due to it being an IRS, and some testers even said they don't see the point of IRS as they think a solid rear axle holds to a track just fine; so Ford goes back to the solid rear for '05 to present..
Mustang is good.. but the Interior materials feel like its made from recycled McDonald trays. Being that I am inside the car 100% of the time I would go for the M3. Get the power, handling, quality, design, and perfect technology on the inside

They ran two cars three laps on the same course and compared the times. It's not like they were comparing how much they liked the look of the cars or what they thought of the sound system. The mustang didn't even have the fastest time.
Ford....I am impressed. And that is coming from a pretty big Chevy fan. I have heard almost nothing negative about the new Mustang GT. I applaud Ford for making a good car for a reasonable price!

I hate to speak bad words but I think Randy is fuckin wrong!! Mustang was never the "under dog" it was just competing in a lower class. That is now why the mustang is almost twice the price than it was back in 1997. Am a fan of BMW but I got to say that Ford kicked their ass so badly with the new 5.0 Stang for much less price. The mustang wins only due to its 2012 update the M3 was developed in 2006 and has gained weight due to new technologies wait until the 2014 M3 hits it'll have nearly 500 horse and will weigh a lot less due to better integration.

Well I'm convinced the M3 drives better; that it's much more nimble and sharp. The M3 also seems like the ideal everyday driver. There's no denying though, the Mustang can hang with an M3 on the highway, canyon road, and drag strip. Go for the M3 if you can afford to but you're really not settling with the Mustang. Good for Ford.

@Buttnut105 I don't know about being more nimble, but i would defantly say it is alot more composed and planted. The M3 is designed more for high speed stablilty and percision. Due to its better handling balance i would say the mustang would be more nimble. The mustang has powertrain that makes alot more sense in the real world, power is what wins on the race track, but torque is what you want for everyday driving. Plus the mustang gets 6 mpg more on the highway....

A lap difference like that can easily be made up with more driver time. Throw in a tire and shock swap and it's game over for the M3. You simply can't justify the $25k difference with "intangibles" like interior quality and other non-performance factors. I have been and will continue to be a GM buyer but these new 5.0 Mustangs don't make it easy to stay with the fold - props to Ford, they got this one right.

I don't blame Ford for holding off on the IRS in the GTs and 6 shooter Mustangs; Consider this: For many years, the testers blasted the Mustang for not having IRS; so then Ford SVT puts IRS in the '99 Cobra and '00 Cobra R; Then what happened? The testers complained about axle hop off the line due to it being an IRS, and some testers even said they don't see the point of IRS as they think a solid rear axle holds to a track just fine; so Ford goes back to the solid rear for '05 to present..

i've been in an M3, and currently own a base 2011 stang v6, leather trim...the interior is very well done on the mustang
is it at the same level as a M3, no. But it certainely doesnt feel like it was made from recycled McDonalds trays. It's very nice for the price
and 287rwhp after a tune and a couple other things, isn't anything to sneeze at. its a fun car and not breaking the bank

They ran two cars three laps on the same course and compared the times. It's not like they were comparing how much they liked the look of the cars or what they thought of the sound system. No doubt that Ford cough up to the M3 (so did RS5, C63 AMG, and others). BMW need to step up the game, but the Ford have to be MUCH better performance wise before people that used to get M3 moves ... Now BMW have the issue with M5 performance, 3.7 0-60, 12.0 1/4 @ 122mph. They can't be faster ...

I'm pretty damn sure that the Mustang GT runs 0-60 in 4.4 seconds while the 2008 BMW M3 runs 0-60 in 4.0 seconds flat? Compare the fastest times of the two throughout the years and notice BMW's domination in the numbers. As a M3 owner I can say that when you see a M3 your reaction is "Oh shit, thats sick". While seeing another Mustang GT is "Jesus...How many of those cars did they make?...." The Mustang will never match the handling, speed, looks, classiness, and sexiness of a M3.

Yes, the m3 is a better all around car, but performance wise you maybe surprised....boss 302 ls has beaten the gt3 997 on track and the gts only matches the gt3. And then there is the 302S which will massacre the gts, although thats not a fair comparison. Don't write off American cars based on their history. This is the American era. Don't forget that ford had bmws chief designer design the new mustang....
