Guys guys! I need your advice so bad!! Which do you think is better? This or Olympus E-PL3?? I was already planning to buy E-PL3 next week. Until I saw this. The photos look stunning!! I also saw the sample photos from Olympus and comparing it to GX1, the photos from E-PL3 is a little disappointing coz it's not that sharp and vibrant unlike this. My only problem is, GX1's more expensive. Is it worth the extra price or I'll just stick with E-PL3?
@rapamano The GX1 doesn't give you all that much more than the E-PL3 for the money. And the reason why the images look better on the GX1 in this video is probably because the pictures taken here were taken with a Panasonic 25mm f1.4 lens, and the pictures from the E-PL3 were probably taken with the kit lens. The sharpness is more determined by the lens, rather than the body (and you can use the lens in this video on the E-PL3 as well).
@rapamano GX1 is better in low light. That is why i am going for it. otherwise not that much difference. Its all in the lens. both olympus and panasonic kit lenses not so impressive. so invest in fast prime lens.

Photos are impressive but surely you should use the kit lens rather than an expensive lens like that? Masks the actual potential image quality that people who purchase the camera will get.

Could you do a head-to-head to compare this against the Samsung NX200 please? Currently I'm really stuck between the two cameras and have been looking for a good review for ages.
@KelvinEF Due to flooding in Thailand, the X lenses are incredibly hard to come by right now (especially the 14-42mm X lens, which will not ship with the GX1 as a proper kit until January, last I read on The Camera Store's blog in Canada). I have also read that there are some sharpness issues on that particular 14-42 X lens. With the 20mm prime and 14-140mm lenses, I see no sharpness issues, and fully agree with any sentiments stated by the reviewer about just how much fun it is to shoot with.

My understanding is that several companies had to move from Japan due to the tsunami and earthquake and moved production to Thailand, only to be affected by the flood. That blog post specifically addresses the 14-42 mm X lens, suggesting it will be available January both alone and as part of the GX1KX kit.
There's gotta be a contractual obligation that Alamby has to be in at least one DigitalRev video a month. And look incredibly adorable in the process.

A lot of this "performance" is due pretty amazing lens (version before 25mm f1.4 for 4/3 was pretty good too and for very long time, only "normal" prime lens for 4/3s and m4/3 via adapter).
GX1 doesnt have much real advantage over m4/3 12 mpix cameras, its just good processing, noise is still there and if you take a close look, its a lots of noise. And colors are, well.. Panasonic. If you want good ones, shoot RAW and use Capture One. Then its ok (almost).
If you dont read between lines, then I think it should have look like Panasonic L-1, had around 8 mpix sensor without AA and top-notch electronics to have very low noise. It would be then more expensive, but well made and usable even for "pro". Increasing pixels wont solve noise problem, or dynamic range problem (no Im not talking about DR in JPEGs), quite opposite.
Thats my idea how should GX1 look, if they really meant it. Now its just like E-P3 with 16 mpix sensor..
Although I think this is the best looking Digital Rev review yet its also the least inspiring effort I've seen in a while...boring. Next time it would help if you shoot a bit more then tree branches and the strange electronic soundtrack is distracting.

@C0C0KOKO dosent need reviewing i have it and think its amazing, why would you listen to my opinion? well check my fickr page if you want convincing that im any good with a camera (listed on my channel). i use it on a 60D for weddings and it has yet to fail me. I'd say the contrast and resolution are as good, and sometimes better than my 10-22 canon.
only thing id say goes against it, is its hesitation to focus on low contrast scenes. other than that the optics are stellar!
Nice review, though I wish he did it using the stock 14-42 kit lens or the new motorized 14-42 X lens. Using the Panny-Leica 25/1.4 is kinda unrealistic, seeing that most buyers will start out with the kit lens and will have to scrimp and save for better glass later on.

Goodness it kills me when you guys sit camera's right on the edge of water. I guess it's not as bad as ripping it apart and painting it pink. No one would do that though.
Although the 5N is cheaper than the GX-1 and EP3 it would be lovely to see a three-way comparison. Had a chance to feel up the GX-1 last week, feels superb - personally i prefer the design over the EP3 and 5N.
No viewfinder, no use. Sony is the only maker really listening to punters. The Nex 7 is the nearest thing yet to what people actually want (apart from the 24 MP). I guarantee you this time next year there will be no middle-range compact or range-finder type cameras with a viewfinder.

Nice review, though I wish he did it using the stock 14-42 kit lens or the new motorized 14-42 X lens. Using the Panny-Leica 25/1.4 is kinda unrealistic, seeing that most buyers will start out with the kit lens and will have to scrimp and save for better glass later on.

Goodness it kills me when you guys sit camera's right on the edge of water. I guess it's not as bad as ripping it apart and painting it pink. No one would do that though.

Although the 5N is cheaper than the GX-1 and EP3 it would be lovely to see a three-way comparison. Had a chance to feel up the GX-1 last week, feels superb - personally i prefer the design over the EP3 and 5N.

No viewfinder, no use. Sony is the only maker really listening to punters. The Nex 7 is the nearest thing yet to what people actually want (apart from the 24 MP). I guarantee you this time next year there will be no middle-range compact or range-finder type cameras with a viewfinder.
