@Bhalspawn I was simply making a joking comment based on the redneck stereotype of many Americans. While American culture certainly has it's flaws, it also has it's redeeming qualities. It really isn't fair to throw us all together into the same bunch as American citizens in one state are completely different from another, the same as how Canadians are different depending on the region of the country you go to.
Not all Bronies are the same, sure a lot of us do defend MLP to the death, and yeah there's some very weird art work (Read: Porn -_-) out there, but a good portion of us try and stick to the theme of the show; to love and tolerate. MLP isn't perfect and even I know that. But for all the character flaws, bugs and animation errors, Bronies embrace them and turn them into jokes and memes so even flawed, Bronies make the best of the show :) I am a 26 year old female and this show was my childhood :)
the first time I got nostalgic was when I was 16 and I wanted to play some of my old 64 games (super mario 64, army men sarge's heroes, zelda: majora's mask). I even bought some old games I lost some time ago (star fox 64, starshot: space circus fever, jet force gemini). I think why people are so afraid of their childhood is because of Homophobia/Xenophobia. I'm now interested in MLP:FIM becuase of the memes spawned by it. (also bhalspawn, you got yourself a new subscriber).
I'm not so much of a hater of the series, but rather the obsession a decent portion has with it. When I first saw the movment, it was like it was trying to force bronyism into anything it could find. All I want is to talk about things without having to see a pony image every few seconds.
Of course, this super obsessed group probably isn't that large, but it's the one that brings the most attention to it, and therefore what I see when I see bronies.

I definitely agree with you on the point about maturity. Mum's always telling me to 'grow up' because I like animation. To me, someone who is mature can enjoy anything they like, but know when to put the things they want aside and say, 'I like this, but this is more important right now'.

It really isn't fair to throw us all together into the same bunch as American citizens in one state are completely different from another, the same as how Canadians are different depending on the region of the country you go to.

Not all Bronies are the same, sure a lot of us do defend MLP to the death, and yeah there's some very weird art work (Read: Porn -_-) out there, but a good portion of us try and stick to the theme of the show; to love and tolerate. MLP isn't perfect and even I know that. But for all the character flaws, bugs and animation errors, Bronies embrace them and turn them into jokes and memes so even flawed, Bronies make the best of the show :) I am a 26 year old female and this show was my childhood :)

the first time I got nostalgic was when I was 16 and I wanted to play some of my old 64 games (super mario 64, army men sarge's heroes, zelda: majora's mask). I even bought some old games I lost some time ago (star fox 64, starshot: space circus fever, jet force gemini). I think why people are so afraid of their childhood is because of Homophobia/Xenophobia. I'm now interested in MLP:FIM becuase of the memes spawned by it. I'm not so much of a hater of the series, but rather the obsession a decent portion has with it. When I first saw the movment, it was like it was trying to force bronyism into anything it could find. All I want is to talk about things without having to see a pony image every few seconds.
Of course, this super obsessed group probably isn't that large, but it's the one that brings the most attention to it, and therefore what I see when I see bronies.

(And, this "super obsessed group" is pretty large. I'm a fan of the show and I like the animation and characters but mostly the community. I wouldn't say that I'm any more obsessed than any other fan of something else, maybe even less)

I really don't care if it's good or not (since there's nothing really special that would make it different from all the other shows), it's just how the people exploit the characters to their liking (just like they do with doujinshis, yaoi and yuri manga and art) and have an "OMFG that's so fuckin awesomesauce" and "that's so me" moment with no real meaning and no real analysis but self-center -ness and shallowness.
