  • It's funny to see all of these comments after a year. It's now 2012 and the new Grand Cherokee Overland Summit has been a huge success. After driving it against the Mercedes M class and Touareg, the Jeep was the easy winner. Of course this test is using the "old" Jeep while the new model is based (and party designed) by Mercedes. And today the Jeep is more reliable than the VW as well as better on the road...or off. But rest assured that VW will update their SUV soon enough!

  • Seen as i couldn't understand anything there, which one is said to be the best off-road in this video?

  • Przecież zderzak można zdemontować.

    look for search "Газ 66"

  • Bullshit man. Touareg is much better quality. How many times do you hear of a Touareg breaking down... ah never. But A jeep on the other hand, always!!! Touareg is faster, more powerful, bigger, and with the exception of the Wrangler Rubicon, better off road...

  • @TheMrTouareg I really like the touareg, but there is a reason I would be a bit nervous buying one... I HAVE seen them broken down, including one I saw being towed from the emergency lane last week. Some cases are from neglecting the maintenance, but they still have problems. VW/Audi have done that for years... made great vehicles, if everything works. Some go for hundred of thousands of miles, and some have troubles back to back. Jeep has had similar, inconsistent trouble. VW interior is sweet

  • @TheMrTouareg What crack are you smoking? The 200,000 miles on my Jeep GC would say different, no major repairs and still runs strong. Also how can a little V6 Toureg be faster than a Jeep with a Hemi V8? Jeep wins hands down.............the VW owner will be stuck asking the Jeep owner to pull him out.

  • @astrak1001 Touareg also comes in diesel.... do you get 720+ miles to the tank on your jeep? (didn't think so)

v10 touareg eats any grand cherokee. Oh and VW has never taken bailout money... why? because VW makes a product that doesn't suck... people buy it. You make a shit product no one buys it, you go bankrupt and take bailout money. Simplest laws of supply and demand.

  • @conrad0102 Search on youtube, or google for WV Touareg offroad.

    Next, search for Jeep offroad.

Getting a hint? Jeep has been making offroad vehicles since before you were born, kid.

Don't talk about things that suck here. Both of these are good cars with plenty of potential, but the Jeep will always get an advantage in offroading since there are hundreds of companies making accessories and lift kits specially for Jeep. VW Touareg is a decent SUV, but there's no touching Jeep.

  • @Dotchetter Toyota FJ cruiser, Hummer... what are you talking about no touching Jeep?

  • @conrad0102 "Kid"

  • Touareg is not quality auto!...

  • Jeeps do and always break down... How many times did it win the dakar?

Touareg more capable the Cheroke by far.

  • @TheMrTouareg is the touareg that races in the dakar te same one your buying off the show room floor, no its not. your statement is useless.

  • Jeeps do and always break down... How many times did it win the dakar?

  • sound like its got a merc diesel the jeep

  • sound like its got a merc diesel

  • Gee whiz that Mall parkinng lot is in pretty bad shape.

  • Those are both road cars. I could wheel the area they were driving in a ford taurus. The road to my house in the spring gets much worse than that, especially with logging trucks going up and down it.

  • The problem with the Touareg is that many of the chassis and drive train components that should be made out of metal are made out of plastic and don't have such a longevity as on the Jeep if driven off-road (at least compared to the GC WJ - not sure about the WK).

  • VW = Very Worthless

Jeep = Just Eats Every Penny

But I still love my two XJ's.

  • the touareg is build just like the rally/baja car.

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

  • Echhh.. Dolny spoiler w Jeepie odpina się przed wjazdem w teren...

  • touareg rządzi:Djeep to trzeszczący badziew;D touareg to prawdziwy luksusowy suv który w terenie nawet pajero obskoczy:D

  • @igorrowasielewski bo pajero to taki kolos śmiechu watre

  • jeep is da reason y germany lost WW2

  • Touareg lepszy ale v 10

  • Comment removed

  • syreną bosto by objechał tego hitlerwagena

  • żenada

  • jeep is better. really jeep will go places that vw wont even hope to go. gotta love it

  • first off jeep is another 20,000 dollars if you want the best one the grand cherokee laredo V8 318 hp stock vw touareg is not rugged or strong enough to go on steep inclines in rain/mud they have no traction and on the street there pretty slow i have burned them numerous times

  • would really really loved to hear their engine when climbing on a 45% offroad area

  • The "off roading" in this video has to be a joke.

  • @mtb416 thats what i said lets see so steep muddy hill climbs then will talk

  • My wife's 2007 Grand Cherokee is a piece of shit! 13MPG combined, and it rattles and has a bad electrical system. We wish we never bought it. We are buying German or Japanese next time!

  • 9 sekund? smiac mi sie chce... 190 km 4.0 choroke 92 , hula do 100 w 8.5 sek :)

  • @oxidesdemon dokładnie!!!

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best!!

  • @SistemasNormales They SUCK! Ours gets a lousy 13MPG combined, and has a bad electrical system. It's a lemon.

  • Touareg is the Best off road car by far. (with the air suspension & rear difflock option)

    can not beat it

  • @TheMrTouareg I wouldn't quite go that far, but it does deserve credit that it doesn't get.

  • @TheMrTouareg jeep just flat out kills the across seas idiots trying to 4x4. The 2011 as much as it doesnt look as much like previous jeeps just blew every other wanna be outta the water. and jeep does have air suspension and has had difflock and even more options available for many years. my freakin 89 cherokee had trans pressure control in it for god sake... vw doesnt have a chance in hell of ever keeping up with jeep.

  • @hillbillyrt jeep put in air suspension after land rover did, they were the first to have it on an SUV and it was 4WD.jeep also took the idea of the center knob and the CDL from land rover.i always have to pull jeeps out because people lift them and they have open differentials

  • JEEP Rules the Off-Road World. All German car lovers need to educate themselves, and look up what Jeep's Quadra Drive II really means. Jeep Offroad #1 Forever.

  • Jeep

  • JEEP!

    GO JEEP!

  • this is unfair , the cherokee cost one half of the price of the touareg, besides, isn't even a hemi V8 cherokee

  • German cars are the BEST!!!!!!!!!

  • both these things suck! the cherokees they produce now are just cars there not real jeeps

  • to all pro american jeep fans. Go to VW dealer take a test drive and then write comments. Problem is most of U have 13 yrs and no licence . lol

  • to all pro american jeep fans. Go to VW dealer take a test drive and then write comments. Problem is most of U have 13 yrs and no licence . lol

  • to put it at it's simplist form:

VW has more off road capability due to auto rise suspensions along with a powerful engine..

JEEP will follow the VW in the trail until it breaks down and thats where the JEEP will succeed! its simply more durable and off road oriented

  • Jeep has the diesel and VW has the rest of the vehical, enough said!

  • ill german engineering any day

  • even my mazda cx-9 can do that of the video x.,DDDD

  • Even if I bought a Touareg I would never take it off road. It just feels too expensive and risky. I'd much rather take a jeep offroad because they have that rugged feeling

  • @SUM414243444546

i can't even count the number of times i took my 1991 cherokee offroad, that car was a beast in every definition of the word. i handled particularly well in the Chicago's extreme winter weather

  • @SUM414243444546 lol that's what I thought when my parents bought their Touareg, but they let me drive it one day to pick up my girl @ the airport, and I know this decent offroad trail, and it was actually REALLY good off road... but hey I don't know shit about off roading lol.

  • @agonony202again. I can't say which vehicle is better offroad since I've only had the Jeep on muddy trails. I will say the Jeep's quadradrive system is crazy when it comes to tranferring power in slippery situations.

  • so let me get this straight, some german assholes put a turbo against a v6 jeep and not even the 5.7 liter model first off. secondly, jeep is number 1 since they were being built. if u have a choice to make when going off-road. ur gonna pick a fucking jeep. ur not gonna say well maybe ill go with the vw... lol nah not happening

  • this jeep in the video has the 3.0l turbodiesel.....215hp and 376lb of torque. same amount of torque as the 5.7liter

  • @hulbert87 both the Vw and jeep are turbo diesel v6's.

  • o i know....the guy i was replying to thought the jeep in the video was using the 3.7 liter gas engine

  • Who ever said jeep is "number 1"? They weren't number one in the Paris to Dakar off road race this year, VW was! Why would you pick a Jeep when the VW is superior in EVERY category? Have you ever looked at the brakes on a Toaureg? 8 piston Brembo's my friend! You guys need to get off your asses and go look at a VW close up, and Compare. Check out the materials, engineering and build quality. Take off a rear wheel and look at the massive multi-link suspension. Then look at your Jeep.

  • @joinedinpain if you knew anything about off-roading, you would know you don't need any of that shit you just mentioned. =| tall lift, big tires and eve bigger balls.. the touareg is trying to be something its not jeep has been doing this for decades

  • second thing if performance is what you want .. the jeep can be fitted with a wide range of engines, including a 7.2L hemi.. then you'll REALLY need 8-piston brakes!!

  • Because it is a VW... and I can't put a 3.5" lift in a toureg... or take it wheeling in moab... well without spending over $100000 on the damn thing to turn it into a trophy truck.

  • do you really think that if I spend 50k on a touareg I'm gonna thrash it offroad? hell no I spend 3k on my jeep and I take that jeep places a touareg could never go when was the last time you saw a rock climing touareg? the touareg eats brakes and tires ever 20k miles and gets even worse gas mileage than the jeep and I didnt think that was possible. brakes will cost you around 1300 all the way around and tires another 800.

  • @joinedinpain ohhh come on, a cherokee costs 30 k and the touareg 44k

    you cant compare them

  • actually it isn't the same think,an electronic diff lock will lock the diff, just like a mechainical locker.A electronic limited slip will lock the diff at a centain slip point. Also a good off roader shouldn't have to be modiefied.

  • @superamerica1981 actually the toureg dose have a electronic rear and center diff locks, the grand cherokee is only has 4 wheel electronic limted slip, the vw also has that. The toureg also has 11 inches of ground clearance.the jeep dosen't even have 9 inches of ground clearance.A subaru outback has more clearance. However for 2011 jeep seem to have solved that problem,so i would that untill that jeep comes out,the toureg is better in every way.

  • you call that offroad i could tackle that in a dodge caliber

  • No chyba ich pogieło

  • I have both of these vehicles.

  • @JediGTI wich one you think is better?

  • @agony202-Overall the Toaureg(V6) is better in braking, handling, looks, interior, rear legroom and overall appeal. The biggest drawback is the cost of maintenance. It's three times as much as my Wk 4.7L Grand Cherokee when it comes to parts.

Both vehicles are absolute animals in shitty road conditions.

The Jeep also handles quite well and what made me get another one (it's my second) is the cost . No other SUV came close in price decked out with all the trimmings used.

  • thank you for the information

  • Half the price and half the problems

Ive had my GC since 04 and have put 100,000 miles on the clock. Not one problem with it.Going to buy the new GC next year

  • The last Jeep GC I had (1996) I took to 225,000 miles! The only big problem I had was a groud out differential a few years back.

  • @superamerica1981 u make no sense cuz an electric locker will out perfom the stock lockers that come on any jeep including the ones on the wrangler!

  • ok well why did u state the the Touareg didnt have lockers?

  • what does my age have to do with anything?

  • haha the vw does have diff lockers u idiot!

  • The Touareg is fully unibody, as with the Range Rover. That doesnt make it bad for offorad, but yes, offroad driving lowers its torsional rigidity, something the jeep doesnt have... And the cherokee has the hybrid chassis, just like the Land rover discovery. That makes it too heavy and not good to drive on the road. And the touareg was designed to be one of the most capable offroad vehicles. ever.

  • I appreciate your commitment to Jeeps; I too am a Wrangler fan. However, the original VW was produced to use during the First World War, the car had to be able to go over all sorts of terrain, not to mention it could float. Since then VW has managed to establish one of the largest Auto companies in the world, with several pronounced alliances including Porsche. Touareg is one of the most capable off roaders currently available to consumers.

  • JEEP s were, are and always are for offroadin they never produced cars they always produce jeeps so they are more experienced on 4x4 offroads ! the VW is not experienced of jeeps ! for my idea the best 4x4 offroading is a wrangler 4.0 l ! have a nice timee

  • @bessniak Not exactly true as many do not know Porsche ( the father of VW ) Started engineering 4x4 off-road vehicles for the german military infact the Tuareg is build on the same platform as the Cayenne, and of course the Cayenne is Not the first 4x4 ever made by Porsche, let's say they went back to their roots.

  • @bessniak The Jeep Compass: An Inconvenient Truth. Jeep makes cars too!

  • @AMGrulz Yeah, well that "car" is trail-rated, which is a very difficult certification to achieve. I'd like to see a Camry tackle the Rubicon.

  • @bessniak VW has a long history of 4 wheel drives winning the last 3 ralley dakars and even won in the year 1980.

Althow Jeep has almost always compeated in the Dakar , no Jeep has ever won the race.

  • i completley agree these dicks dont know what thier talkign about the touareg is a golf with a lift kit and a price tag, Jeep is a pure 4x4

  • no it isint. do your research, then bitch at us

  • god this is a no brainer, toureg doesnt have diffs, jeep does, i mean jeep is a pure 4x4 toureg although capable is a golf with a lift kit, you cant compare the two offroad you just cant, volkswagen electrics will short out as soon as it hits a river, plus jeeps diesel is 510nm mercedes

  • hahaha what are you talking about?? First of all, it can go into water as deep as its grille and door handles, and second the 3.0TDI makes 550nm of torque, which is more than the jeep, and the VW's engine is quieter, smoother, revs higher, makes more power, uses less fuel, and makes less emmisions. Sorry, the jeep just fails. And no, it isint just a raised golf, thats the tiguan. The touareg's platform is shared with the Q7 and the cayenne

  • Never considered the Touareg and Grand Cherokee together... But it makes sense now that I think of it. Although it'd be better to compare the Touareg to the 2011 Grand Cherokee since it is more refined than this G/C.

  • VW! NA KOLANA CHAMY!! :D

  • No contest the jeep is far superior off road because thats whats its made for, the touareg is good but at heart a glorifed golf

  • VW is pure quality......Jeep's materials look super cheap compared to a Touareg...

Jeep might be a bit better off roading, but I go for the Touareg all the way...no comparison ...German cars are just the best

  • VW Better on street , Jeep better on Off Road that's easy.

  • toooouuaaarreggg is suppeer, jeep no good

  • vw

    przynajmniej dla mnie

    dobre osiągi

    ładna sylwetka nawet na miasto

a jeep troche się znudził z tą kanciatą sylwetką

    i wykonanie amerykańskie(słabe ,twarde,szeleszczące plastiki) w porównaniu z niemieckim to niebo a ziemia

  • Jeeepppppppp!!!!!!

  • ahahahh a VW ma w zanadrzu silnik 6.0 W12 i tatusia jeepa miażdży

  • SRT8, wanna fight? ;)

  • hahahha Yes W12 rulezzz

  • Onnly on a jeep primito ahuevo

  • to sa juz terenówki a nie SUV-y , posiadaja cechy terenówek typu: reduktor, stały naped, itp

  • To są SUV'y ...

    Terenówką jest np Nissan Patrol...

Niektóre sobowe kombiaki nawet mają reduktor 4x2 4x4 ...

  • Comment removed

  • No tak.

Jeep to z zewnątrz zajebisty SUV a nawet terenówka a od srodka limuzyna.

Zresztą 20 tysiecy i mamy auto podwyższone o pół metra więc o czym gadamy...
