@dagr8master for me personally i think blender is more user friendly. simpler to use for me. course i sat through a bunch of tuts for blender. and nvr tried any for maya since i do not have it. anywho it also depends what your trying to make. blender seems to have a bit better ability to do organic shaping. but for example lightwave is better for more inorganic stuff. (buildings, ships, etc)
@santagotback101 nah jokes.....try smoothing less or making larger or smaller scale land marks e.g hills and valleys. try studying games like oblivion...that has awesome terrain you can take example of
That might have to do with your mic but I don't think (this was a long time ago) I used the hypercam audio recorder. I did it in two separate parts one with hypercam and audio with audacity.

this would be good you need to edit this one more time. It is not user friendly. ou are not in modes that your speackin about all good just dont assume people know what u mean.
you should be able to see it in the window if you click into 'textured' view instead of 'solid' view. i haven't tried yet because i cant get the noise to work. i subdivide then press noise and nothing happens. any ideas? (i got version 2.48)

whenever you are uv texturing the mesh, just size your mesh up un the uv window and it will make the grass smaller
