I tried this a lot but automation clip doesn't work for me in the pattern channel. It works when I play it in the playlist. Also none of the gates work for me. What am I doing wrong ?
Im having trouble try to set up the automation clip... When I try to use it I right click on the drum loop and I hit automation clip and after that Auto clip come on and it keep doin that?? Can somebody please help me P.S. Im using the demo verison
OK I apoligize for so many comments and rookie questions but whenever I link either sampler to the square 8th auto clip [as shown at 21:10] , the volume knobs do not move at all for me! I did everything verbatim so it would seem , and I can't seem to figure out what's going wrong here.
root note * sorry i figured it out I was left clicking and right clicking thus zoning C6 to C6 lol thats why it wouldn't play. Very good tutorial man its great to know such valuable resources of information are available here on youtube.
Hey whenever i did what you do at 22:14 when you made dx7 an arpeggio and then highlighted a different scale [orange highlight] ,and stop the pattern then try to play it again, the sampler will not even play 4 me. Do you have any idea why this is happening ?
I have prloblems with sound. My music gets distorded and cracks when I add kick and bassline together and its really annoying.... I have tried with asio buffer size maxed and with default adiodevice buffer lenghth maxed but either didnt work! Only thing I can get it away is to put fuity limiter to master mixer but then sound is not so good.
when i link the controllers to what you told me to it does not work in pattern mode. Unless i paste everything to the playlist and play it in song mode it sounds like it supposed to. Could you please help me out? as it is a hassle to put everything in song mode
Oh one more thing to add. My volume seems to get stuck on the volume that the automation stopped on. For example: If my automation would totally kill the sound when I stopped playing a song and then start playing something else, the volume will be stuck on 0 even though the master volume is still on 100%. This must be some kind of bug?
@Sodin89 set the control knob to where you want it to start at - right click and choose - Init song from this position. Now when ever you stop and start your automation will reset back to where it was initialized.
@ste1438 I've actually tried that. To resume the volume and get it back I have to make any kind of audio clip that fades in back too full volume, or else the volume will be either totally muted or lowered, there's no other way, except for restarting the program, to get the volume back. this helped me alot but you used premade drumloops how would create a automation for say drum loop I made in pattern 1 NOT and premade loop, and i wants the bass drum the snare and the hithats to all automate at the same time? the must be a better way than automating each individual drum shot.. please inbox me!
@domisking No magic bullet there - tweak each part separately. I didn't focus on it because it is that basic - it's more work when you use separate channels - better though. It's always good to go the extra mile. For example an artist that opts to do chorus by carefully recording vocal layers is going to sound better than someone that simply uses a Chorus effect. Easy solutions often compromise the over all production.
@ste1438 ohwell its a shame they dont have a tool for it really unless i master my drums and save them as wavs and use them as pre made loops is only other way i could do it gutted :/
@domisking It's better to have the channels separated - once you bounce it down to a loop - there is no going back. It's also pain to to go through that process. Do you know how to use layers?

@domisking Layer Channel - you can conbine channels in to one channel with that. set key ranges for each channel and you'll have a lot more control over you drum tracks. Layers are really useful - I need to cover it.
im having that same problem to also my automation clip won't play and its not even when i hit metric in the formula thing. You should redo this tutorial with fl studio 10 or 10.0.8 :)
@M1xMasterMonty93 Your just doing something wrong - it works the same now as it did then when I created it. In fact, back when I did this compatibility was better for FL10 because this is an alpha preview version of FL Studio 10. I did that to ensure this video would not be outdated any time soon.
@M1xMasterMonty93 keep in mind that - 61000+ views and not too many are having an issue - most common mistake is adding notes to the wrong clip or channel, sometimes it's bad linking. If you can't get it working - use song mode - some people have mentioned that sending to the piano roll works - but it should not make any difference. If it works for me, it should work for everyone. There is no trick here - WYSIWYG.
@ste1438 yeah, I was having the same problem - automation clips not working in pattern mode. But listened to the advice in your comment and sent the note in the automation clip to the piano roll, and suddenly the automation clip started working in pattern mode. Bit strange, but got there in the end

Hi, I'm using the FL 10 Free Demo to follow along in your lessons and ran into a problem at the very end. I'm trying to crossfade and I'll follow all the steps correctly, but when I go to select the actual button that says "Crossfade with" it's grayed out. Help?

@Paspiedreamcast unfortunately - Thats endless - there will always be more that can be learned - hardware, plugins, theory, synth programming,FX, mastering, live recording, playing instruments, vocals/vocal FX... It really depends on how far you want to take it. Can't get hung up over it though.
@AerDynamik i had the same problem were you clikcing on the yellow dot for your automation clip? if so thats why you have to clikc on the volume know to do it
Some problem that occured when working with automation clips: when I add formula controler it mutes, both on pattern and song mode, all my automation clips like they didn't exist. Please help me.

@zipproductionz try both decide for yourself. Some prefer FlStudio - others ProTools, Sonar, Reason, Cubase, Acid, or Ableton. Choose your poison,but if you don't try them out for yourself you will never know for sure.
@zipproductionz actually. deadmau5 uses FL. im not to sure about ableton for sure but i wouldnt say he doesn't but yes, deadmau5 does use FL. for a fact.
@keeranangel he has said on an interview that he uses fl studio for small loops and some cool editing, he also uses cubase, logic, and reason, but he's main thing is ableton live. i saw it on a interview:)

@zipproductionz if it helps to know deadmau5 also uses fl studio to make quick loops. Think of this as kind of like the begginers beatmaking software even though people like deadmau5 still use it from time to time. If you are already experienced you should get ableton but i've downloaded ableton before and its pretty detailed and not as user friendly as this program until you know the basics.
@1093jmb oh, but i spoke to a dubstep producer who is pretty skilled, hes name is "the polymer drone", he has held live conserts and stuff, he uses ableton but he told me that the biggest stars of ukf dubstep and drum & bass is using fl studio for most of their work:O
this work for me : click what ever chanal go chanal settings assign free mixer track - frutiy fast lp - last tweaked parameters and create automation clip - if you can open last tweaked parameters change a cutoff little and than you should
@andreasdc1 Not in direct resonce to you, but others also. if it works for me, it should work for everyone. You need the latest version of FL Studio. The notion of switching to the piano roll to fix it is not necessary. This pretty simple - not sure why so many are having a problem here.
Another problem, fruity wrapper wasn't in my add channel option. I browsed more, and found it, but now nothing comes up when I use it. Just a toolbar, with no actual visual plugin. Any idea why?
@ste1438 Oh.. Well, I couldn't get that plugin, which I assume is fruity wrapper (since that's what you clicked), to show up when I chose the same option. Maybe its a .dll problem or something.
I have a problem. My main loop is linked to the automation fine (obviously), I followed the directions to a tee. Unfortunately, when I preview in pattern mode, the automation does not take effect at all. It only takes effect in song mode. Any reason why that might be?
@ste1438 i have done exactly as the video proposed, but i dont have any changes... is there some feature that might have be activated that prevents this link?
@mioumitsou I saw the video. You need FLStudio 10. It wouldn't have worked the way you set it up anyway. You need to fill the automation clip with quarter notes (you only put one note in.). You changed the mapping formula of the automation clip instead of the linked controls too. You don't have to use the DX10 or 3xosc . I only used it to demonstrate automation and mapping formulas. I put an arpeggio on on the 3xosc and changed the main key too, but experiment with other instruments.
@ste1438 I chose the dx10 and 3xosc randomly. You would get better results if you used some of the newer synths. I should have done that myself, but at the time, I didn't want to waste time browsing through instrument patches. I just made do with what I selected.
i made my 1st song just using automation clips for volume control without using the standard pattern mapping. much better and dynamic. now want to explore more automation clips in midi controllers and FXs!
I am not understanding why Fl Studio doesn't work with the aniimation when it's on pattern mode. It doesn work when its on playlist mode tho. Any ides why this happens? please help :D Thank you
first off i want to thank you for the videos they have been highly helpful. Though would you say it be best to watch all the videos take notes and then go into FL and start to create projects while referring to notes and the videos, or would you say it is better to do each lesson with fl studio open doing what you are doing?

Hey i played that piece, nocturne 9 and rev etude during a recital once. Chopin is such a beautiful romantic composer. look up the gymnopedies by satie. you could easily do a intro with that piece.
Brill tutorial, I was racking my head over the automation clips names, I only get it now the number after the shapes name is it note duration and the numbers on the end are probably the direction the shape is going in

@MorockanMe You need to become a musician eventually - if you aren't one now. Learn some music theory Only my point of view, but I would recommend that people learn how to play some musical instrument, if they want to be a better artist. You miss out on a lot without that sort of experience. Memorizing music, Rhythm, arranging, dynamics, reading music, theory, and just appreciating music as a fine art.

I use the "edit events" feature for more small-scale modulation. Heh, put a low-pass filter on some sick bass, right click the frequency knob, click edit events, and then press the magic key combo: ALT+O. Maybe throw a bit crusher on that or something
I also can only hear the Arpeggio and DX7 linked to the Square gate if I am only on the piano roll. How can I get it to work just on the step sequencer steve?
@ste1438 how do you paint(select) a lot of songs with just one click??? which button or key or whatever do you use?? its just anoying to paint one by one for me! please answer
@8St3fan8 It's a 3rd party plugin - It does not come with FL Studio. I only used that as an example for automating 3rd party synths. I got it from "ele4music" which seem to be no longer online. Try KVRaudio for free synths though. There are better free synths out there.
@8St3fan8 Yes -I have the beta - try to send it to the piano roll. You can get the Beta, but it expires. I always use the beta because it extends the life of the video. I have some features that aren't included in the public release. I am just so use to it that I'm not always aware of what some people will or will not have, otherwise I try to mention it.

@keeranangel he has said on an interview that he uses fl studio for small loops and some cool editing, he also uses cubase, logic, and reason, but he's main thing is ableton live. i saw it on a interview:)

@zipproductionz ,it would be better to start studying in Ableton - as far as I heared it have a lot of posibilities for writing electroniq music, but FL is good too - I work in it and i am not dissapointed/Dedmau5 is working in FL Studio too. It is good in mastering and engeneering/

@zipproductionz if it helps to know deadmau5 also uses fl studio to make quick loops. Think of this as kind of like the begginers beatmaking software even though people like deadmau5 still use it from time to time. If you are already experienced you should get ableton but i've downloaded ableton before and its pretty detailed and not as user friendly as this program until you know the basics.

@1093jmb oh, but i spoke to a dubstep producer who is pretty skilled, hes name is "the polymer drone", he has held live conserts and stuff, he uses ableton but he told me that the biggest stars of ukf dubstep and drum & bass is using fl studio for most of their work:O

@andreasdc1 Not in direct resonce to you, but others also. if it works for me, it should work for everyone. You need the latest version of FL Studio. The notion of switching to the piano roll to fix it is not necessary. This pretty simple - not sure why so many are having a problem here.

Another problem, fruity wrapper wasn't in my add channel option. I browsed more, and found it, but now nothing comes up when I use it. Just a toolbar, with no actual visual plugin. Any idea why?

@BRADM69 The wrapper is used by FL Studio to load plugins. It does do anything as channel.

@ste1438 Oh.. Well, I couldn't get that plugin, which I assume is fruity wrapper (since that's what you clicked), to show up when I chose the same option. Maybe its a .dll problem or something.

I have a problem. My main loop is linked to the automation fine (obviously), I followed the directions to a tee. Unfortunately, when I preview in pattern mode, the automation does not take effect at all. It only takes effect in song mode. Any reason why that might be?

@mioumitsou I saw the video. You need FLStudio 10. It wouldn't have worked the way you set it up anyway. You need to fill the automation clip with quarter notes (you only put one note in.). You changed the mapping formula of the automation clip instead of the linked controls too. You don't have to use the DX10 or 3xosc . I only used it to demonstrate automation and mapping formulas. I put an arpeggio on on the 3xosc and changed the main key too, but experiment with other instruments.

@ste1438 I chose the dx10 and 3xosc randomly. You would get better results if you used some of the newer synths. I should have done that myself, but at the time, I didn't want to waste time browsing through instrument patches. I just made do with what I selected.

I am not understanding why Fl Studio doesn't work with the aniimation when it's on pattern mode. It doesn work when its on playlist mode tho. Any ides why this happens? please help :D Thank you

Hey i played that piece, nocturne 9 and rev etude during a recital once. Chopin is such a beautiful romantic composer. look up the gymnopedies by satie. you could easily do a intro with that piece.

@MorockanMe You need to become a musician eventually - if you aren't one now. Learn some music theory Only my point of view, but I would recommend that people learn how to play some musical instrument, if they want to be a better artist. You miss out on a lot without that sort of experience. Memorizing music, Rhythm, arranging, dynamics, reading music, theory, and just appreciating music as a fine art.

I use the "edit events" feature for more small-scale modulation. Heh, put a low-pass filter on some sick bass, right click the frequency knob, click edit events, and then press the magic key combo: ALT+O. Maybe throw a bit crusher on that or something

In my FL studio Link to controller doesnt work. Hm.. I always hear only DX7 or Arpeggio. Its work only if i used Square as a piano roll.

@8St3fan8 It's a 3rd party plugin - It does not come with FL Studio. I only used that as an example for automating 3rd party synths. I got it from "ele4music" which seem to be no longer online. Try KVRaudio for free synths though. There are better free synths out there.

@8St3fan8 Yes -I have the beta - try to send it to the piano roll. You can get the Beta, but it expires. I always use the beta because it extends the life of the video. I have some features that aren't included in the public release. I am just so use to it that I'm not always aware of what some people will or will not have, otherwise I try to mention it.
