  • I remember my dad bought my first 45 record and it was The Archies/ "Sugar Sugar".

  • i remember that! you could get lots of 45s on cereal! my uncle bought me th e45 though and I was soooo excited! my first piece of vinyl!!

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG iba talaga ang kanta noon kays angayon... noon. maliwanag at masarap pakinggn

  • Adoro...

  • HOMER SIMPSON!!!!!!!

  • I read in the book "One Hit Wonders" that the original recording used studio musicians and Andy Kim as lead vocalist. The band here was formed after it became a hit, much like the Strangeloves, Grassroots and Steam. I don't know if the singer here is Andy Kim, since I've never seen him. Good example of early Bubble Gum music.

  • every AM Radio was playing this song..

  • i remember the monkee cutout ... i loved it

  • The Monkees refused to record this. Don Kirshner formed this cartoon band for this song. Fun song, better for cartoon band.

  • Love this song<3

  • The original Milli Vanilli--the real band looked nothing like the cartoon characters that were credited--in either case.

  • What a lovely and lyric song.

  • All of these videos/songs bring back the lost younger years of my life. such a lifetime . it was a great time to grow up in, with television breakthroughts to the music industry voicing changes through songs. Thanks to all thoses trail blazzers who made it decade of enjoyment.

  • and Bobby Sherman record also on the box....singing..Waiting at the Bus Stop.

  • excellent memories LOVE it THX!!!!

  • This was supposed to be a Monkees' song originally.

  • Very nice musik ! Thank you !!

  • one of my all time favorite songs ever.

  • Under the category of "Just shoot me now", my kid said "Hey Mom, I recognize this song! This is the opening song to "Cake Boss". I guess it could have been worse. He could have said "Mom, isnt' this one of the songs you like to turn up when you're listening to the 60's channel on the satellite radio?"

  • his name is ron dante

  • His name is Ron Dante and still tours occasionally.

  • I remember anyone who liked this song was called a Teeny-Bopper. LOL.Toni

  • hey is that Andy Kim?...................

  • It sure sounds like Kirshners voice. Oh Don was in on alot of Jan & Dean contracts .

J&D were going to star in a tv show the fall of 66 Jan had his wreck in the spring do it never

happened . I say he got the idea from that for The Moonkees show . Davy Jones sang on Jan's "comeback" solo stuff . The Pilot of J&D 'S show and the Moonkees show are very simular in comedy

  • Not Don Kirschner. Andy Kim.

  • The Neil Diamond look "back in the day". It is no coincidence.

  • I believe this is actually Don Kirshner sining this.

  • @mikelandreth I think it's Tommy Roe of the songs "Dizzy" and "Sweet Pea" fame. Don Kiahner was the producer. He was the one behing the Monkees. When the Monkees wanted to do their own music and didnt want to do this type of stuff Don simply replaced them with singers who can't complain.. Cartoon Singers.. Walla the Archies started singing.. BTW Sugar Sugar was supposed to be a Monkees song but the boys drew the line in the sand.. Also since I am on the topic--- RIP Davy Jones

  • @jebfarm The record was on the back of the box. You had to cut it out.

  • the archies came up with a scientific theory in 1969 but nobody could work it out...........it has been posted on you-tube site "panetta speaks on the defense"............read the comments below the video.

  • A "Studio Group" screwed Creedance Clearwater Revival out of song of The Year in 1969 (Proud Mary) by all the teenage girls buying this crap! Cannot be live as there was NO Archies!!!!!

  • He almost reminds me of actor Seth Green only with longer hair....Love the song and thanks for posting!

  • ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! my youth completely revisited!!!! i had this 45

  • The song that The Monkess refused to do.

  • If these are "The Archies"," then where are Betty & Veronica? Just sayin.'

  • he's so cute! this is the first time I ever put a face to that voice!

  • Does anyone remember cutting this record from the side of Alph-bits box??

  • @jrocco36 I sure do, used to race to the box before my sisters could get there hands on it.

  • @jrocco36 yup and i remember line dancing to it at summer camp as well

  • @jrocco36 omg-yes!

  • @jrocco36 I remember the record being on the Sugar Crisp cereal box - that's where mine came from. It was probably on a few different kinds of cereal back then.

  • @jebfarm I think your right.. I couldnt remember what box it was on.. I do how ever remembering having to put about 50 pennies on the record to keep it going round and not stopping..

  • @jebfarm WOW WOW... Can you give details about the cereal box story and the record??? Did it come INSIDE the box?

  • @jrocco36

Have this record from my cereal box my son did not belive it was a record lol

  • @ThePHILALLENSHOW LOL..I can top that one. My daughter asked me what a "record" was.

  • @jrocco36 OMG.........talk about bringing back a memory! THANKS!

  • @jrocco36 Holy crap! YES!

  • @jrocco36 Me I was 3 yrs old in 1969 & loved this song & had my record off the alpha bits box. 43 yrs later love this still!!!!

  • @jrocco36 OMG. I had to slap my brother to give me the box. So looooong ago.

  • @discoqueen1970 You made me laugh. Thanks.

  • @MusicMuze You are so welcome.

  • @jrocco36 Omg I forgot all about it. My wife and I both remember. LOL it was so warped the arm would rise up and down up and down hahaha. So cool thanks so much for reminding me of something cool form the past!

  • @hotdog2020 The warping! It was as if the needle was riding the waves. So hilarious.

  • @hotdog2020 iT WENT IN TIME WITH THE MUSIC!

  • @jrocco36 Thank you for bringing that memory back...I forgot all about it! Think I'll be smiling the rest of the night.

  • @jrocco36 LOL I remember that too! We used to put a couple of quarters on the needle arm so it wouldn't bounce off the record while playing. Super Sugar Crisp had them too. Most of the Kellogg's brand cereals had them. I remember there being some Monkees ones, Banana Splits, Bobby Sherman, and they even had some Jaokson Five ones as well. Not only that, back then you always got some very cool prizes inside the box as well! Oh to be 7 again. 49 isn't as much fun sometimes. lol

  • @jrocco36

I must have put the wrong side of the box on my record player. The only sounds I could hear were "Paul is dead....".

  • @jrocco36 I sure do!

  • @jrocco36 yes!! thank you for bringing back that memory!!

  • @jrocco36 Yep. The technology in those days was outstanding.

  • @solamande Well I wouldnt go so far as to say its outstanding.. In my mind this song sounds just as good as it does here on YouTube.. But in realilty, I record cut from the back of a Cereal box played on a 45player my not be of the best quality. But lets face it.. it was great to be able to cut a record from a cereal box now wasn't it

  • @jrocco36 OMG; YES!

  • @jrocco36 YES! And the Monkees Last Train to Clarkesville!

  • @jrocco36 yes!! i cut the damn thing off the box!! then i played it on my 'close and play'!! box!!

  • @jrocco36 I do, there were a few others too.

  • @jrocco36 I did wish I still had it might be worth something

  • @jrocco36

I do and I wish they still made Alpha bits.

  • @QueenMeanMaryJean They still make Alpha Bits Cereal postfoods com/Alpha-Bits

  • This guy needs to tour with Slipknot for a while..

  • Most definitive "bubblegum" song ever. A perfect piece.

  • Comment removed

  • lovely music.....the 60´s an area of easy listening and an area of harming commericlism extremely lovely Im meltin

  • IS THIS GROUP BRITISH OR FROM THE USA CAN ANY BODY HELP ME PLEASE

  • @Mr47mark

It wasn't a group at all. It was a studio creation using Ron Dante as lead singer. That's why he's the only one seen in the video. The rest of the "band" is anonymous studio musicians and singers.

  • he isn't even singing into that mic, it's like two feet away from his mouth LOL

  • Who is the guy? I think there was exist a band behind the music.

  • @joeycastanheira his name is Ron Dante he along with Barry Manilow produced this single.

  • remember i got a copy of this on the back of cereal box that you cut out and played on a phonograph

  • @htmanUSMC I did too! It was on the back of Post's Sugar Sugar Crisp cereal boxes. Gotta love cardboard records!!

  • nice lookin guy and i love the 60s & 70s when guys weren't afraid to have chest hair. PLEASE BRING BACK THOSE DAYS. tired of all the men now trying to look like women and shaving everything....

  • I heard this ranks #1 as the worlds greatest song !

Cool tune , Praise the Lord , bring them back !

  • Flashback in sound

  • Reminds me of Homer Simpson singing this with the large ice cream cones!

  • Bubblegum music back when it was good and took talent.

  • :) iceskated to this at Powderhorn Park, Mpls Mn in '69 as a tot,

  • I love the last part, where he starts really jamming, around 1:50 - "pour a little sugar on me honey (i'm gonna make yr life so sweet) - it' s like for those few seconds it goes from being sweet and bubblegummy to seriously sexy.

  • La buena musica nunca pasa de moda.

  • I still luv this song!

  • It was August 1969, I was listening to this song on the radio of my Dad's new 69 Chevrolet Caprice. The song was interrupted with the aweful news of the Mansion Murders....seems like only yesterday. The summer of 69 also brought us news of Teddy Kennedy at Chappaquiddick, Hurricane Camille, and a real historical event, the landing on the moon. I was fifteen years old. P.S. does anybody remember In the year 2525 by Zager & Evans?

  • @327caprice yes, my Friend I remember Zager and Evans singing "In The Year 2525" it was (and still is) a great song

  • @327caprice I remember August 2525.

I was speeding past Jupiter in my space craft, listening to the latest remixes of Tupacs lost recordings, when the Virtucom interrupted to report on the Martian teleporter disaster. The summer of 25 also brought the final Rocky movie, the inauguration of the 15th president Bush and something really important -- contact with another galaxy ;)

Seriously though, that was a great post 327caprice.

  • @dudeman5685 Wow you're the real McCoy ! I thought it was a big deal to say I once went to the Milky Way......but alas....in all honesty the Milky Way is really just a Malt Shop in New Jersey. Well I can dream , Cant I ? Thanks for the reply :)

  • First schoolgirl romance....wonder what ever became of him...he WAS sweet!

  • Trivia: The Archies were created by Don Kirshner because he was tired of having to deal with "real" human beings (The Monkees) this way he could keep creative control in his hands.

  • This is by far, the biggest hit

and a signature classic for The Archies,

as it soared to #1 in the Top Ten.

I remember the cartoon show back in '69.

This is great stuff here. :)

  • Actually, the artist is Ron Dante who did the voices

and instruments of the whole band.

He also did the voices and instrumental works

for another studio band called The Cuff-Links.

(best known for the one-hit wonder, "Tracy".

  • 1969, tenia 8 años yo, me encantaaaaaaaaa

  • che bel ritmo, quanti balli e quanti bei riccordi!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this.

    Still love it.

    Thanks.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • The lead singer looks a little like Greg Kinnear

  • Wow. This takes me back to that summer (69?) when I was a kid and went nuts for this and Tommy Roe's Sweet Pea. No doubt drove my parents nuts as well, playing it over and over.

Yes, it's bubblegum music, but I was nine and ate it up.

  • I wonder why they don't show the band member on the keyboard?

We hear him, but don't see him.

  • I'm here because of an episode of the Simpsons.

  • ¿Donde estan Veronica Betty y Torombolo?

  • I grew up with Archie comics so I loved this song when it came out. I remember it being called bubblegum music and disliked by a lot of people; it's great to see so many nice comments about it. After nearly 43 years I finally know what the singer looks like!!! Also 43 years ago I wondered why there was a group called The Cufflinks who did the song Tracey (which I also loved) with the vocalist sounding just like the Archies vocalist and a comment posted here tells me it was the same guy!

  • They're not very animated.

  • lipsyncing back then eh?

  • we use to go around singing this song too.

  • the maracas play through all the choruses, where is the guy who plays the awesome maracas track? drives the whole song. Nobody ever wants to be seen playing the maracas. except Davey Jones, maybe.

  • Ladies & Gentlemen - the Three Dantes

  • fabulous lolly fab day's

  • Wheres the keyboard player?and the backup singers.

  • This was my SONG when I was about 7 haha

  • Interesting how this video shows him as multiples playing all the instruments and singing. That's exactly what he did to form the Cuff Links with their hit Tracy. The group was simply his overdubbed voice.

  • The people who disliked this song will get sugar shoved down there throught and get diabetes.

  • If I only had a nickel for every time I've heard this song as a kid.

  • ssssh...no way I can be this old...just too funny..:}}

  • I still remember when this came out and my local AM station played it back-to-back for 1 hour straight. I'm 54 now and can finally listen to it again :-)

  • Oh how I remember this song. It seemed like this song was always on the radio. Good times as a kid when I hear this song.

  • They are all the same guy. He wrote this himself at the request of a studio. I was impressed when i found out he created all the vocals and music himself, but disappointed to find out Veronica wasn't real.
