  • 3:46-3:49- FULL SHIMMY

  • @jodymeach There's no cure.

  • Wow. That was pretty good. I haven't seen that in decades, obviously I fairly dismissed it. Tisha could really sing, it's weird I rem. this song being in rotation, but thought it was some star at the time. Good resurprise.

  • Yeah but to those who saw the movie, the part with Tisha licking the part in her boyfriend's head still haunts me to this day!!! Uggh!!

  • This is movie is the shiiiiit bitches!!!!

  • I loved this movie. This song was one of my faves. As soon as I heard it the words came back as if it was 20 or so yrs ago

  • @DPEN1975 Same here...lol..I didn't think I knew that much of this song. They use to play it all the time on the radio..I think that's where I picked up most of the lyrics. (I think I've only seen this movie once).

  • where have all the girl groups gone? who would you want to remake this today?

  • thumbs up if this is one of the reason you went to college

  • i thought tishia campbell was THE BADDEST CHICK then....i was suffering frm redbone syndrome like most black men in the 80's

  • @babyboi1002, Well I am not sure how old you are but I was in high school when Vanessa Williams became Miss America in 1983 and then lost her crown in 1984. School Daze wasn't released until 1988 people had moved on from those nude pictures and her recording career was on fire at that time. Ms. Williams gave birth to her daugher Melanie in 1987 when the movie was being shot.Yes Vanessa Williams nude pics were a scandal but so were Madonna's. People focused more on their talent and not pics.

  • This is the song....lol love it

  • I love this song as a kid !

  • I love this song

  • This is still one o my favorite songs.

  • i didnt knw who they were until just nw i saw a pic on tumblr

  • i know every word of this song!! i love it

  • tisha campbell was sexier than jasmine guy

  • @rafiq52feek hell naw

  • OOOOOMMMMMMGGGGG!!!!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

  • Jasmine was sooooo fly!!! Her facial expressions in this routine kill me everytime! She was FEELING it!!!

  • Classic!!

  • I felt like she was the Beyonce of back then. It was almost a look into the future of how big she would be. She's been really big as an actress, but not so much as a singer though.

  • I always thought Tisha Campbell and Jasmine Guy were great performers. If they had the right backing, I think they would've made it big in the music business. Then again, it was hard for an actor back then to cross over to music and be successful. There have only been some who have been successful on both sides; Will Smith, Eve, Vanessa Williams, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Brandy and Jamie Foxx.

  • @Cloak3791 AND JANET JACKSON THE QUEEN OF POP!!!!!

  • damn damn just damn no other words for this i wish women could get back to looking like this damn

  • LOVE IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!

  • DAMN she used to be fine and hot as hell. I guess she's still really pretty though!!

  • All four of them could get it!!!!!!!!!

  • Enjoy

  • Man, that babe in the middle (right behind Tisha) @ 3:00 can really, really work it! her body was made for that dance move.... go sista, I've been admiring you secretly for years!

  • thats that shit GFY G

  • the song sucks ass but seriously Tisha has the best voice I've heard in a loooong time. If I got her in the studio to re-record this with more of an upbeat, electric guitar chord and LOSE those drums, she'd not only break into Billboard's top ten, but I'm sure by the time this single's put to rest Lady Gaga would've finally taken cue and sound somewhat entertaining than she does now...

  • @JadeArsenic for the 80's songs like this was everywhere...so at that time this song was GREAT! lol

  • I don't get this comparing Tyler Perry vs Spike Lee thing. They are two totally different directors. There is enough room for the both of them.

  • I loved this movie. Makes me want to go watch my DVD of it. I dont understand where you guys get Beyonce from this though. I get more of an En vouge type feel. I dont remember Destinys child ever dressing like that. But Anyways i love me some Tisha Cambell she was just meant to be on the movie screen/tv!!!

  • favorite movie of a teenager. (=

  • THIS SHOULD BE A STAGEPLAY

  • I always loved this song. Tischa Campbell can BLOW!! so was this song made just for this movie or was it a real song they just sung??

  • i remember doing this in my school's talent show! we killed it!

  • Hair weave is steadily evolving, thank God! lol

  • WOW so this was the first thing BEYONCE stole. YEAH this is the original DESTINY CHILD they should of came out with an album

  • I always say if this was remade Bey would kill this part!!!....and maybe usher can play her boyfriend lol

  • i love this video to this is my movie actually i love it but beyonce swag came from tina turner hence the blonde hair loud singing her ideal is tina turner but i love tisha as well

  • @kalifani Destiny's Child wasn't the one watching this. Matthew and Tina were watching this, turned to Beyonce and screamed in unison 'YOU CAN DO THAT TOO!!!' And the rest is history lol

  • @benrotten Lmao

  • if you way back..there was the girl groups..SWEET SENSATION AND THE COVER GIRLS

  • I totally agree. The Original Destiny's Child!!!! I love that performance!!!

  • Hey a friend told me Vanessa Williams was suppose to play the role of Jane but she had to drop out because she was pregnant. I would have loved to have seen that and not to take away for Tisha Campbell whom did an excellent job.

  • @PatrickkOMalley She wasn't pregnant...she dropped out because her nude pix were leaked...so she wanted to distance herself from a "sexual image"(she didn't want to do the sex scene)

  • LOVE this song.

  • This brings back crazy CRAZY Memories....this sound track was being blasted all over campus when I was at Jackson State...lol

  • My mom used to say "Girl, stop being fresh singin that song!"..lol. Brings back memories..ha ha.

  • attempting this routine....right now!!!!!

  • Alicia Keys payed omage (sp?) to this movie and this performance in Teenage Love Affair music video.... I Love this movie I was about 5 when this came out and Love it still

  • @bls3025 Teenage Love Affair pays homage to this WHOLE movie not just this particular part.

  • Ha, so this is where beyonce gets her style from..

  • Who dnt remember this movie!!?? I love this...and this my fav part :-)

  • Get it BEyonce!!!

  • OK I love this movie and I love Tisha Campbell but her hair is killing me. It's so...big and bright...

  • This just makes me question when Tisha will hit B'way. I know she loves film and tv, but she has the goods to be a huge B'way star. Huge voice, great actress, and great stage presence..hopefully she gets the memo..

  • I'm sorry but when I was a kid and this movie was in constant rotation on the tube....whoa! jazmine guy....mm...mmm.mmmmm

  • I love this video. I was attending a HBCU when movie came out. It reminds me of my postive and most fullfilling experiences.

  • I love this video. I was attending a HBCU when movie came out. It reminds me of my postive and most fullfilling experiences.

  • Gina and Whitley on one stage? DAAAAAAAYUUUUUUUUM!

  • Oh Spike Lee.... how I love thee! lol!!!! I begged my mother for a dress like Tisha's! lol!!!

  • i agree spike was good in the 80s and 90s but its tyler time now

  • @keonta81 Tyler is nothing compared to Spike Lee. They aren't even in the same league. That's like comparing vaudeville to serious theatre. Spike Lee is one of the greatest and most prolific American film makers ever.

If Tyler Perry is our current day equivalent to Spike Lee then we are in serious regress and decline.

  • @iArsalan I agree. Tyler and Spike are VERY different stylistically. Tyler's approach is very direct with low brow humor. He also incorporates alot of melodrama. Spike is definitely very artistic and expiremental in his work. Both have their merits, however Perry's work contains quite a few faults as well. I mean compare Why did I get married to miracle at st Anna or Malcolm X. I love the comparison of vaudeville to serious theater!!!

  • i swear when i was younger i was performing this wit them! lol i love this song.. i did the dance and all...

  • Funny that Tisha's character was the "star" of this group but her dress was the MOST unflattering fit. The other girls looked waaaaay better.

  • I knew exactly which point to fast forward to on the tape. 26 minutes into the movie just to watch this clip. LOL

  • I forgot Tish Campbell could sing... but she looks crazy in this movie...

  • @Yuffie3982 really Do the Right thing is now taught in film classes I doubt Madae will ever make it pass blockbusters

  • 1. Tisha voice in this is insane.

    2. You'r right, Tyler Perry's movies are't help in the hieghest artistic esteem.

    3. Yuffie has a point, we should not completely shunn Tyler's work because he puts on a dress in his movies.

  • @Yuffie3982 lol...a man in a dress isn't dumb?

  • ppl try to compare lee and perry but there is no comparasion. lee is a conscious minded brotha who make movies with indepth thinkin and messages while perry make movies with for main stream america with surface messages. both pack messages just delivered differently. both successful in their own rights. its all based on opinion and for me Im spike lee all the way.

  • * Jasmine Guy ! *

  • Yeah he makes money, like a good whore makes money. I'd rather have Spike's credibility of being one of the greatest film directors than Tyler's money he got for being a clown because that's what you're remembered for. Some of Spike's movies have messages in too, you have to be smart to get them. And I'll pass seeing on watching his plays/movies. Classics like Malcolm X and Crooklyn are better than tranny granny.

  • Tyler is a man in drag with a camera. Deal with it.

  • Before En Vogue and Destiny's Child there were the Gamma Rays. And just think...this wasn't even a real singing group. Love Tisha and y'all know Jazmine can sing too. this was awesome. Major crush

  • @stewartduane they all are biting from the movie Sparkle

  • @stewartduane they all are biting from the movie Sparkle

  • @stewartduane

En Vogue can sing, Jazmin Guy can't hold a note to ANYONE is En Vogue!!!

  • Spike is so jealous of Tyler Perry's mainstream succes. Tyler is very close to becoming a billionaire and spike cannot deal with it

  • Well you have to admit Spike Lee is hell of a lot more talented then Tyler I mean look at Spike Less's work!! You would be pissed to if some mediocre filmmaker oyt shone you because he dressed in drag as an old ghetto black woman. I bet you.

  • Well Spike should look at Tyler's success as he paved the way for him. And it is true Spike did. But why did Spike feel the need to go public? Because he wanted to discredit Tyler in some way. It make Spike look petty. He could have called him on the phone. I lost a little respect for Spike. Just me

  • Maybe Spike could have done it better. You are right about that but he still has a right to be pissed in my opinion. Tyler's work is always the same "angry wronged black woman changes her life after going to church, then she finds a man" THE END. It's boring. and Madea ugh! it's been time to hang that character up. Spike is creative, artistic, a visionary. Tyler....not so much.

Spike is underrated Tyler is waayyy overrated...period.

  • @maxsax2003 i think there is not enough of our people who get credit as much as either of the two so instead of bashing one or the other congradulate and be proud

  • love their hair. so full and luscious.

  • One of my favs from school daze, oh brings back memories.

  • Sick harmonies during the verse.

  • This mah jaaaaammmm!

  • This was done so perfectly...one of my favorite movies of all time.

  • @layleboo

2 bad Spike is a jackass now. I'm not a big Madea fan, but to chop block Tyler Perry?? Come on Spike...

  • I agree

  • oh my gowwd

  • love it

  • I love this!!!

  • i agree, i'm a 26 female and i've seen some women do some awful things, things that are just terrible. i keep to myself and i dont trust people my age. all of my friends are older than me and thats just the way i prefer them to be.

  • The last of the elegant age.I long for the days of elegant woman and elegant attitudes.I think as a whole women have lowered their standards. The song, the words, the message is just simply beautiful. Thanks for this video and thank you Spike Lee for making films like this.

  • @dolphinbuc-I totally agree!!!

  • Jasmine Guy is 7 years older than Tisha Campbell, she must of taken 6 years to graduate college..lol

  • well hell spike was 31 when he did this

  • DAYUM! I forgot about how cool this song was!! Thank God for youtube.

  • I was 8 or 9 when this came out, and was struck with how sexy these women were, everytime I watched this, I would imagine which one I would want to marry when I grew up,,,lol, visually they are stunning, sexy.

  • Oh My Lord Have Mercy thats so cool!!!

  • school daze is one my spike lee favorite movies i think he did a good jog on this one

  • why every time there's something on youtube..BEYONCE name is in it..what the hell dha beyonce have 2 do with GAMMA RAYS..leave ha alone

  • It' s EN VOGUE!

  • real talk this shit is fire

    lol

  • I bet you Beyonce jacked all her swag from this performance. This is the original Destiny's Child lol

  • LMAO everyone i know agrees with you.

  • LMAO!! Hell yeah! Imagine Beyonce' Swagger Jackin' the Gamma Rays! Weave, hip moves, facial expressions, and all. Tisha was gettin' her "Grown Woman" on. She was the baby of the entire cast at only 18 leading the Gamma Rays. I'll bet she was like "I may be 18, but I am woman, hear me ROAR!" lol

  • @benrotten Is that a shady way of saying Beyonce would have killed this performance? smh

  • @benrotten Its funny how people ALWAYS bring up byonce's name in anything that has t do with a female artist sining...SMH im beggining to think all of you haters secretly love her....JEEZ if anything the Gama Rays borrowed from the Supremes just like most other female groups.....and does anyone have anything to say about Alicia Keys copying the entire premise of school daze for her "Teenage Love Affair" video...nope its all about bashing Beyonce!!

  • @ninetiesbaby10 lol, it's too obvious to not make some sort of Beyonce connection. who in the hell has time to hate a superstar..

  • @staredpixie To me its too obvious not to make an En Vogue connection or Supremes connection...but I see no Beyonce in Tisha's performance....I think people are just determined to hate her....even when its not warranted. And it doesnt take much time to sit down and type a nasty comment about her on youtube.

  • @ninetiesbaby10 come on.... The group leader.. The big honey blond hair..

lol, i see it.. as far as performance there is no likeness at all.

  • @staredpixie I mean I see a very thin similarity by a mere technicality. But Beyonce's hair was never THAT big and outrageous or that color. And many groups had showy flashy leaders who stood out(The Supremes once again come to mind)....but Beyonce....I dont see it....I think people are just reaching.

  • @benrotten I'm thinking, [strike that] I'm pretty damn sure that Destiny's Child's 'Cater to You' video is exactly lifted from this performance. & Kudos to them for doing it too.

  • @kalifani out of all the million of girl groups that have been out since the beginning of time, that have done similar performances, you say that DC took something from here. It sounds like you just need to bring up DC or Beyonce

  • @benrotten Actually it was alicia keys.

  • This is so wonderfully weavalicious.

  • i luv this song

  • tischa is dat BOMB_BABE

  • C-L-A-S-S-I-C!!!!!!!!! i love this movie and its soundtrack. this movie was the deciding factor for me attending an HBCU.

  • you did understand that this is fiction and doesn't represent a real hbcu experience.

  • yes butternutt, even though it was 21 yrs ago and i was in the 8th grade @ the time. i went on to attend & graduate from an hbcu - and i was not disappointed.

  • man i love me some tisha and still do The best over look actress in film or a sitcom that never got a chance to shine like she wanted to TISHA I LOVE YOU BABY CORRECTION WE LOVE YOU BABY AHHHHHHHHH My 80's BABY

  • i loved her in "rags to riches." that was my show!

  • where beyonce got alot of her swagg you can see it from here and compare it to what shes doing now.

  • Beyonce should have known how to walk down some stairs then LOL She could get a few pointers from them lol

  • My friends and I loved this movie. I had memorized all of the choreography, and actually I still remember it well!!

  • My favorite part!!

  • tischa is so hot and talented! she should have been a HUGE star. shame. she is so much better than most of the crap she gets (rita rocks)

  • thank you for this!

  • Tisha's got a real Taylor Dayne-ish look with that big hair of hers! Very '80s...

  • love this movie!!

  • Tisha was only 18 years old! god, I love her!

  • not the whole cast, but alot of them . they used the same casting director as the movie, Robi Reed (now robi Reed-Humes), so she ended up casting most of the stars of the movie in the show.

  • Sadly there is not a lot of chances for Blacks to shine in Hollywood. So you'll see a lot of talented Black Folks in similar films.

    ~SH

  • OMG im absoltely in love w. sonqq=]]

  • like that movie as well

  • im 14 and my mom my aunt and I were talkin about sororities and they were like you should watch school daze. After I watched I was like wow Tisha Campbell can sing and that nite I asked my mom if she could get me that movie just for this one song

  • this wasn't a real group but they really caught everyones attention. And now look..... En Vogue, Destiny's Child all had this image and look. TALENT

  • I love both EV and DC! But, come those women in EV ALL could SANG where in DC Beyonce was the obvious break - away star! I do agree that this School Daze skit did inspire EV, DC, TLC, etc.

  • Eu simplismente amo a Tisha sou fã dela e das músicas delas também.

  • Wow, just came across my old cassette tapes and found one with this song and Perfect Match on it! My two favs from the movie. Tisha could really blow! Brings back memories man.

  • Classic. Spike Lee is Legend.

  • OMG I LOVE this song! The music from this film are excellent. My other favorite is "Perfect Match." It took years to find them. Great stuff!

  • this movie brings back so many memories.C/o 88 baby.

  • I heard that Spike initially wanted VANESSA WILLIAMS in the role of JANE TOUSSAINT, but chose Tisha Campbell for her stronger singing voice. I could definitely see VANESSA WILLIAMS playing the blonde/red haired, blue-eyed Jane...not too far from reality...lol!

  • Interesting, because Tisha does have a STRONGER vocal delivery!

  • WordSmith79:

Vanessa Williams had the right look, even though she didn't appear as young as undergraduate in 1988. As for Tisha Campbell-stronger vocal delivery is an understatement! EXCELLENT voice. I can't think of another actress/singer who could have performed so well-especially this song.

Alicia Keyes' video for "My first Teenage Love Afffair" aside, I hope no one ever remakes this film.

  • You are soooo right....TISHA OWNS that performance! It's hers! Period!

  • WordSmith79:

This may sound odd, but I think Tisha Campbell or Jill Scott could have portrayed Etta James in _Cadillac Records_. We know Christina Aguilera probably cried herself to sleep for at least a month and Beyonce Knowles performed Etta's ballads instead of her raw, raunchy blues songs for a reason...

  • You know what? I would've agreed with that if Cadillac Records was filmed and released ten years ago. I think that Tisha or Jill would've been perfect. But at this time, they both are older than Etta actually was during that time period. I think Tisha is in her 40s and Jill is pushing 40.

  • Actually Alicia shouldnt have attempted it either.. in comparison her sexiness in the Teenage Love Affair video was severely lacking.. Maybe a SEXIERnR&B star should have paid homage.. and I shall say no names.. ha

  • jtyshi7:

ROFLMAO! I didn't care for Alicia Keys' video either;though the song itself is fine. I meant that it exixts, and can't be removed from the record, so to speak. No one can improve upon Tisha Campbell's performance, so I hope no one else tries.

  • Actually, Vanessa didn't play the role because she had a schedule conflict. Spike says it in the book about the making of the movie. Personally, I'd have preferred Vanessa but, Tisha is great too.

  • yea i dont think vanessa wouldnt have fit the role

  • I remember when this movie came out spike lee and tisha campbell had a beef. This song was very popular on the radio. I think she wanted to use the song to launch her singing career but spike wouldnt do it.

  • brothaman101:

If that's so, Spike Lee was a real jerk to a great talent.

  • This vid is DA BIZNESS! Ahhhhhh....the memories....

  • This is a great song...Tisha can sing, but I wonder what it would have sounded like with Jasmine singing.

  • this video is still fiyyaa!

  • excellent song!

  • im only 14 years old and i just absolutly love this song

  • lol well baby you have exquisite taste in music.

  • word. so happy to see the youngins likin good music...

  • I sneaked out the house my freshmen year to see this! Spike Lee is bad. The soundtrack is a classic! These my girls. Still sexy!

  • love this shit!!

  • This movie & song epitomizes 1988.The music was great & the new talent was giving us a taste of what was yet to come.School Daze was one of the many great Spike Lee projects.Only he could gather so many great & future great players in one film.Ossie Davis, Samuel L. Jackson,Larry Fishburne, Jasmine Guy, Tisha Campbell,Cassie Davis & so many others. This movie showcases Spike's vision & talent. Hard to believe it's been 20yrs. Congrats Class of '88!!!
