  • I remember watching this movie as a kid, I was shocked at Titau being covered in so much blood, the guy must be impervious to pain or something

  • Tonight I had the great pleasure of seeing this film, in 35mm, an uncut print, with Tsui Hark in attendance. I had waited 15 years to see it (I refused to watch bootleg DVD's) and had a great time. The finale is, as has been said, insane.

  • this film is ovrrated. flailing arms and excessive spinning do not make good fight scenes

  • This is was of the best finals that i ever watched, its perfect, and the final scene is kind of depressing but makes perfect sense with the rest of the film.

  • You notice how the guy lying on the ground at 00:20 is facing the opposite direction at 00:45? :-P

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!

  • the story is real savage beastly ti tao go hard too doe:)

  • This sword fight is arguably the best ever filmed; the direction is so goddamn inventive and dynamic and exciting. It's certainly the best and closest thing to a live action anime we're likely ever to see (look at the shot from 3:49 - 3:53 for fuck's sake!). Can someone take Roland Emmerich and Michael Bay's budgets and give them to Tsui Hark and see what he comes up with? I guarantee it'd be a thousand times more interesting than any other contemporary action movies coming out of Hollywood.

  • holy crap that was retarded!

  • Tsui Hark 's a legend !!!

  • guys, we are in the process of putting a fan website together for Tsui Hark, the site isn't completed yet but the forum is. Just type his name (TsuiHark) [dot]com and you get to the site. Then join the forum for discussions!

  • obviously, tsu hark influenced by wong kar wai's ashes of time.

  • IF there were a live action anime fight, i think this would define it.

  • The most amazingly choreographed fighting scene I have ever seen in a movie, PERIOD.

I first saw this movie when I was in France at the age of 15, and still cannot forget it.

Neither have I seen a more intense and heart-pounding action in any other movie.

  • Amazing.

  • Legendary.

  • Is the ending only what the girl thought, not real?

  • They sure did a lot of turning!

  • when it comes to remakes I felt Dao being a remake of one armed swordsman was more powerful than Beat's Zatoichi...but that's my feeling.

  • Very badass movie. Did not sleep too well after having watched this movie late at night. Really, really bad.

  • I love this movie!!! One of my favourite

  • Yeah the french DVD kicks ass but the subs are french only... Si vous êtes pas français it can be quite difficult...

  • @Uzibag Je l'ai moi. Super dvd extra on apprend pas mal sur le tournage du film.

  • This movie has NEVER been released in DVD format in Hong Kong, the place that it was made! What a shame.

I got the limited French version boxset by pure luck (in a 2nd hand store). It's definitely the best version, great video quality (even better than the Japanese version) and a very much improved Cantonese original sound track.

However It only comes with French subtitle, which would be a problem to non-Cantonese/French speakers.

  • wouldn't spinning around like that fast make u dizzy lol

  • He must have went through some intense training :P

  • Is this last scene sped up at parts or is that just how skilled they are with the blade. I don't watch many martial arts films but that scene was really good.

  • That was epic!

  • Ey... could someone please please please please upload this movie w/ english subtitles? Thank you so much.

  • @IbThoj you can find in on emule good quality

  • THE best swordsman movie fight scene of all-time!

  • I agree. This scene burned itself into my mind first time I saw it.

  • completely agree.... never get sick of watching this....

  • the best fight scene ever!!

  • Ppl fighting with that speed is scary

  • 精彩的兵器對決,一場復仇存活的死鬥。幾乎無停歇的武打,刀刀致命!血脈噴張的刀法,讓人喘不過氣!讚啦~徐克,稱的上經典武打^^

  • Can you please tell me where you got this version of the movie? Only one I've been able to find on ebay is a English dubbed version. Back in the day I watched it on VHS and it was in mandarin. Is this cantonese version on DVD? Please tell me where I can buy it (mandarin would be great too). Thanks so much!!

  • Actually I got mine on eBay too, you just need to pay attention what versions they sell. If you're not sure just send the seller a message. Mine is also Cantonese with English subs (just the way I prefer). I don't speak chinese but I found Chinese movies always best with the original sound. I don't mind to read the subs.

So try eBay and talk to the seller if you need to. It is on DVD.

  • Frustrating thing is the French DVD has way better picture quality, but only has the film dubbed. Not worth the tradeoff, just sucks that such a good film hasn't gotten a perfect DVD yet.

  • @lartrak it has gotten a perfect dvd. The french one. U can watch it with french subtitles. What sucks is they have no english subs.

  • i got this movie on kungfuvision for ten dollars the chinese english subtitled one

  • I've never seen anything like this. Most action movies just look too polished and commercial. This one is definitely different. And the last fight looks even greater if you watch the whole movie in one sitting, it's filmed in a different manner than the previous 90 minutes so to enhance the impact even more. Tsui Hark rules.

  • Any chance to upload the full movie?

  • Best fight scene ever!!!!!!!!!

And also my best action movie ever........

  • Same here. I treasure this movie even above my Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies!

  • ehm why he has in the end 2 arms?

  • Holy fucking shit!

  • that's exactly my reaction when i first saw this movie over 10 years ago

  • The ending is so poetical, the way that girl waiting her undeserved (coz the men didn't love her)loves, so dramatic...but I wonder, is her father dead? Coz I love Austin...:-P

  • ... thanx for posting this! this is one of the greatest hk/martial arts films ever!

  • True

  • This scene ROCKS
