  • thats one dead North Korean or Communist Chinese soldier

  • @capnhands More likely a dead Vietnamese soldier. Sniper rifles are one of those unique military weapons that are so expensive and complicated to produce that when the military DOES make them, they make them last as long as possible, which meant keeping the 1903A4 and M1c in service until they just couldn't find an excuse to keep them around any longer. Most of these old warhorses were issued late in Korea or early to middle of 'Nam.

  • @Rocktecho Lol all of your questions will be answered if you just watch the video.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but dont those rifles have a clip that ejects out the top when it's run out of ammo? Wouldn't the scope get it the way?

  • Where is the love button? >:I

  • did they issue a m1 grarand as a sniper rifle toward the end of ww2? I thought they didnt issue m1 snipers till the korean and vietnam war.

  • @cobra96svt570 The M1-C was issued near the end of WW-II, and the M1-D was in the process of being issued at the time the war ended, so they (the M1-D) never saw WW-II service.

  • @cobra96svt570 had to i saw john wayne in a ww2 show with one, john wayne wouldn't lie

  • haha nice distance

  • I've got a standard issue M1 I got from CMP. What kind of scope setup would you recommend?

  • the scope is 2,5x ?

  • @theroyalgrapefruit Early military snipers (the Garand, 1903A4, 91/30, and even the 98k) tended to use relatively low power scopes (generally between 2.5x and 4x) because the art of sniping was still relatively young, and most shots were made within 300-400 meters, which didn't require any more powerful magnification. Also, scopes were a relatively new idea, and were still very expensive to produce, so really there was no incentive to make bigger, more powerful ones.

  • Lol, I don't think that's a shockwave, I think that's the power of the bullet cutting through the heat. Great video.

  • Was issued a new one overseas. Packed in cosmoline. Took long time to get it clean. Mine had a different scope and no bi-pod. Think it was a Lyman or Weaver just can't remember. It shot good.

  • OMG i want i want i want i want i want i want i want!!

  • My Machete is better..

  • i love the m1

  • is this rifle better than the mosin nagant in your other vid

  • @thebestfisherman1 Hard to say, if they were both with the standard issued scopes, Id go with the 91.30, other than that, this rifle is far better.

  • HAHA 420 ^^

  • I can fap to this.

  • nice muzzle crown

  • Lookat these carebear taken-for-granted liberals coming in here thinking these rifle shooters are pure republicans

  • M1 Garand

  • Cool rifle!! it is my favorite rifle, it has a lot of history...where would we be now if it wasn't for the M1 Garand and the soldiers who used it...

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, I just turned 21 and I'm thinking about buying a rifle. I really like the M1 garand because of it's historical aspects. I was hoping I could get your opinion on where to look for one and what to look for as well as watch out for.

  • @RashaTwain Garands are easy enough to turn up, just go to your local gun show and I guarantee you'll see at least two or three. This one just happens to be a rather rare M1D sniper that will run you somewhere around $3600. A regular old Garand will run you something like $700-$800 for a re-arsenaled service grade Springfield produced shooter (which is an excellent gun to start a Garand collection with). Word of warning though: Milsurp rifles tend to multiply like rabbits.

  • @Thatevilmidget What are the dangers of milsurp rifles?

  • @RashaTwain Really the only danger is ending up with a sewer pipe barrel or a corroded gas piston (not much of a concern on the Garand, but on other semi auto's like the SVT and the SKS it's definitely something to be aware of). Both can be avoided with a simple 10 second examination at the show (buy yourself a bore light, it'll be the best $10 you ever spend). Also, when you're buying your first rifle, bring a more experienced buyer with you, they'll be able to steer you in the right direction.

  • Why are you using the uncut -9 rod? it is worth $400 by it's self. There are plenty of later rods if you insist on shooting.

  • @Wireman134 I use the uncut rod for the photos, I swap it out when I shoot it. Thanks though.

  • Awsomeee!! I love hte M1 for no real reason :S I can't wait to buy one if i can... How lucky is your son!!!

  • 420 yards with a 2.5x scope.... good work man!

  • @darrylhaynes Well you are sick in the head then if you seek out gun videos on youtube. You should love the guns that shot your dumb self because neither of them killed you.

  • no pal....you are the sick one.....in love with something that the sole reason its here is to kill.......gun nut....

  • @mag30th Yup, Im a gut nut, and you are a spammer. I see the other comment you post on other sites, you are the sicko...

  • @mag30th HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH

  • @darrylhaynes perhaps if you liked them more you would have had one on you in both instances and avoided that happening. also might want to rethink where you live/hang out.

  • 2 wrongs do not a right make...or is that 2 deep 4 u.????

  • I love the "ping" when it ejects the magazine. That's an awesome work of art you have there.

  • shooting the M1 is the most fun I've ever had at the range. I cannot imagine going up against this rifle in battle. so impressive.

  • can you still aim down your sights with this thing?

  • This rifle sounds AWESOME with out the wind howling in the camera's microphone

  • I think that "shock" from the bullet is actually the heat.

  • 420 yards nice XD

  • Headshot +50

  • Nothing can slow the bolt of an m1 garand

  • can you supressa m1 grand?

  • That definitely was the best rifle ever mass produced, used from 1936 to 1963, I think, & the rifle to take it's place was the M16 & my dad was in the Unites States Marine Corps from the late 1960s to the mid 1970s & he tells me the 1st M16s were a FUCKING DISASTER, they had to be cleaned & maintained THOROUGHLY or they'd Jam & Break where the Viet Cong were using AK-47s as their Assault Rifle & the AK-47s had been in Soviet Union service since 1947 & they DON'T jam/break....

  • Is it possible to find a scope for the Garand for south-paw shooters, or is the current one adjustable?

  • okay so you've made yourself clear that its not a M1D lol. so does that make it a M1C? or is the E8 before that too? and if it is the i wouldn't be shooting that thing. too valuable

  • didn't they offset the scope on those so they could reload it?

  • i don't mean to pry but can u give me an estimate on how much an m1-E8 would cost original and in restored condition? Or auction value.

  • @TheWinchestermag m1 - e8 can run from 1200-2000$

  • OMG?? BLING ON M1 GARANDE SNIPER SCOPE AND FLASH HIDER... HACKER!@#

  • 420....

  • Are thesights lock-bar?

  • How clear is the scope?

  • m1 garand kicks ass. the only down side is that the clip makes that tinging sounds when it ejects. not very good if you don't wanna be found

  • @oS1LENCEo i think if you are firing a gun that little ting wont matter...

  • CAN YOU ADOPT ME!??? loool pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • pikey

  • fell*

  • great rifle, for the time. Horrible design as far as the clip goes. Imagine if magazine on a m16 or any modern rifle feel out when the ammo is gone... Anyone know a benefit to this?

  • Shooting my garand with 48 gr Varget 155 gr a-max got rapid fire 100 yard group 1.2moa Really like to try it with a scope though.

If anyone knows of a scope mount for the garand that is a picatinny rail that would be great. I'm a lefty and I know that it has to be on the left side but I'll shoot support side with a scope. I need a rail because I'll be swapping the scope on and off. Any ideas or leads appreciated.

  • mag30th, I apologize, its an awesome rifle and putting a scope on it is just fine, I'm just an iron site snob

  • 1 of 2 @Talus83 Im also an iron sight person as well, in fact Im shooting 1,000 yards open sights with several of my other antiques. But as I have to point out at least once or twice a week, I didnt place a scope on this rifle.

The M1-E8 was the US militaries version of the M1 Garand sniper rifle. The US military began placing scopes on sniper versions of Garand as early as 1943.

  • 2 of 2 I receive so many comments from folks very critical of me for "putting a scope on a Garand." I collect antique military rifles, this is as "as-is" M1-E8 (E8 standing for experimental) WWII era sniper rifle. This is the predecessor to the M1-D Garand sniper rifle.

  • @mag30th whats the shortest distance you shoot with your Garand? If it is 100yards what is the difference in point of aim and point of impact? I know the scope is zeroed at 300 yards. Using two different rifles or just changing the Flash hider?

  • @Paladin601 Yes, the scope is zeroed at 300, but it is adjustable, and I adjust it to the distance I’m shooting. And yes, I was changing the flash suppressor; it is more accurate with the later prong versions than the earlier cone type.

  • @mag30th I assumed you had the M84 scope I should paid more attention, I am building one with the M84, that is why I asked, Thanks.

  • what is that funnel like thing on the end im not familier with it

  • @goldwing1966 if you pay attention @ 2:00 min it tells you its a wwII flash suppressor.

  • You son almost get pushed off the matte, nice rifle!

  • It makes a wicked sound.

  • i love it when my rifle makes the sound thats around the time of 1:05-1:08

  • such a pretty rifle. im not trying to brag but i hit an egg from 300 yrds with iron sights with my garand (2 shots, 1st was for windage and elevation adj). but damn would i love to have that scope. lol

  • with a suppressor

  • flash hider

  • Mag,

    Where is this range?

  • A Place to Shoot Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun Shooting Range 33951 San Francisquito Canyon Road Saugus, CA 91350 (661) 296-5552

  • awesome shoots!

  • Its called a Vapor Trail when you can see the bullet, but nice vid

  • When a wave compresses the surrounding air it changes the way light refracts, like shimmer in hot rising air. "Vapor trail" is water vapor seen in the low pressure trail following an object traveling at high speed, most typically seen at the wingtip of an aircraft. Low pressure can support less water vapor so the wingtip with a low pressure trail produces a vapor trail. Video shoot was in a hot and dry location, no vapor trail.

  • how much is a M1 Grand?

  • I'm looking to put a scope on my Garand, but it is a regular M1, not a D. Are there special made mounts nowadays??? If so, where could a guy find one????

  • I wouldnt do anything to your Garand that involved drilling the receiver, so you may want to look into the clamp on type mounts. Ive tested several clamp-on mounts on other rifles (the Enfield at 750 yards and the 1903 Springfield at 1000 yards are posted here on my site) and the only one Ive ever tried that was with a crap was the S&K mounts. I have not tried the one for the Garand, but if it is as good as the other mounts, it should work almost as well as a receiver drilled scope mount.

  • HEy where'd you get the gun from?!?!?!? I really want one or at least a kar98

  • Designed by a Canadian! Woooooo

  • True!

  • what i like about the rifle is when the clip jumps out after the last round. but nice setup.

  • I am guessing that the scope, as dictated by its mounting location, is a long eye relief style. What info do you have about it?

  • 426YRDS aint alot considering the average GI in veitnam could hit a target with the m14 at 800+ yards with open sights

  • It is spelled Vietnam, not veitnam. And US soldiers in Vietnam were not issued WWII era rifles.

  • @mag30th

In the beginning, yes. M1 Carbines, Garands, BAR's, and the like were issued along side the M14 & M14A1.

I love this rifle, though. Although I used an M1D. I've handled the M1C, but I never had a chance to shoot it. And not at range. Simple 200 yard targets with some hot rounds. Complete waste of ammunition, but I got to use the damn thing.

    @wigtrimer

They were capable at hitting targets out to that far. But few actually did unless they were snipers.

  • in the beggining they were

  • I shoot 1000 yards open sights with my other antique rifles, and they are profiled here as well. This video is not to profile my shooting skills, but to profile the rifle.

  • I've never heard of 800 yrd accuracy but I'm sure there were some who could do it with open sites. My dad's next-door neighbor said he qualified at 500 yds. with a M1. Those were the pre-vietnam days when they still taught true markmanship. I myself am working up to 400yd open site accuracy. But it will take a long time I think. I'm pretty good out to 200 but it will take a long while to get where I want. Practice, discipline, and more practice.

  • @mindeloman thinking in getting one can u tell me wht caliber this m1 is

  • .30-06 Sprinfield. You can rechamber an M1 for

.308 and a few other cartridge types. .30-06 is not cheap ammo but compared to some, I.E. 7mm rem mag or .300 win mag, it is more affordable. I think the cheapest now is remington 150gr. corelock. Like $18 for 20. I think this stor-bought stuff is a little too hot for the M1. I just load my own and get it real close to military spec. with IMR 4895 powder and hornday bullets. That way I don't have to worry. I've never heard of M1 buyer's remorse.

  • OK all you oldtimers; Let me see your thumbs!

  • ping!

  • dang thats really good!!

  • beautiful riffle what a classic!

  • Ive heard that the M2 flashider causes the rifle to be less accurate, but i digress. Beautifull rifle i wish i had the money to convert one of my garands to M1C/D specs.

  • 1:35 i love that beautiful sound!

  • wowz

  • i have a dumb question...

the scope is beside the gun, but then how do you aim through it?

  • its a little weird when you first use one, but you get accustomed to them. seeing its top loaded they had to make a mount that was off center

  • the scope is off set to the side but it is still lined up with the barrel

  • you'll notice a leather cheek pad, this offsets your head so that you can aim through the scope. the way i do it with mine ( i don't use a cheek pad) is use my opposing eye. use one eye for the iron sights and the other eye for the scope.

  • I have heard that most modern ammo can foul up and damage the Garand. I plan on getting one soon, and I just wanted to know what ammo you use. Do you use new manufactured ammo or reloads?

  • you need lighter rounds i think you cant use regular ones you gotta do a bit of hunting to get the lighter rounds

  • Yeah, I've heard the 150 grain bullets are the ones to use, but I have also heard about modern cordite (gunpowder) expanding too fast for the Garand's gas system. Do you know anything about that? Thanks for the info so far.

  • Wouldnt you want to take the flash hider off? Ive heard it reduces range.

  • No, there's no reduction to the gas or the bullet's prepultion, that's just in COD WAW

  • Oh, im not getting my information from that game, haha. My grandpa collects rifles, and He has 2 M1s(one with with a flash suppressor, one without). I have shot both, and the one without the flash hider is seems much more accurate to me, but maybe its just me, or its something with the rifle. Thankyou very much though!

  • although the flash hider doesnt reduce range i know that a silencer reduces the bullet penetration

  • using subsonic ammunition reduces the penetration.

  • I love how everyone is asking what's at the front of the barrel. Apparently everyone has to be told and nobody reads anymore. It's a flash supressor, guys.

  • man i want a garand. i saw 1 at the gunshow in my town but it was soo gunked up i didnt want 2 bother so i got me an m1carbine

  • how do you like the m1-carbine? is the ammunition expensive?

  • no its plentiful and cheep, carbines are really fun to shoot

  • ya like i said to ur other coment its 20$ a box where i get it and it comes in 50 rd boxes and is accurite up to 200 yds only downside needs constant cleaning

  • k, thanks

  • they have the sight off to the sides so that they can load the gun seeing as that it loads from the top

  • wait since the scope is mounted off to the left couldnt you also use the iron sights since a scope isnt in the way

  • Yes

  • o kool and also another question, if your going to sight this gun would you have to adjust for elevation and windage since the scope isnt directly in line with the gun as opposed to only adjusting for elevation for like a r700, hypothetically speaking if there's no wind

  • Yes, what I have done (same as what the military did) was set it up so that it was dead on at 300 yards. you have to not only compensate for elevation but at distances other than 300 yards you have to compensate for the windage, it is a tricky rifle to get used to. Then to make it ever odder to fired, it is only a 7/8 diameter 2.5 power scope. It feels very primitive, BUT, fun to shoot... :-)

  • i c very intresting thanks for the info

  • That a fine rifle.Would love to own that.

  • Did the americans use it as a sniper. If they did was it very often

  • ya they did from what i heard but not as often as the springfeild

  • after the first shot everything starts to ring, and you just keep up the fire, then it's kinda "muffled" somewhat, not actually, that's just how i hear things. never had a fire fight in Iraq, but i did bounding on an objective with my AR15 with no ear pro'.

  • wind likes to ruin everything...

  • Prolonged exposure to any loud noise can cause perminant hearing damage. However, temporary amounts of it will not cause long term damage. Most of the guys who fought in wars never heard long enough amounts of noise to become deaf. But if you practice shooting recreationally throughout your life, you can damage your hearing. Thats why people wear protection. But I can imagine that some guys in wars would get hearing damage, if a loud enough explosion occured close to them. Its happened.

  • I've never fired a weapon in my entire life. I see comments here and there where people complain about being deaf for an hour or so after firing a rifle etc. How did soldiers fire these back in the day then? I'm sure they weren't issued earmuffs lol I doubt they rushed into battle with them on at least :/ Someone explain, did they just handle being deaf for hours after battle?

  • not very lefty friendly :(

  • eu quero comprar uma dessas pra mim

  • that is such an awesome gun

  • Tell your son. Very nice prone shooting. Very disciplined at a young age. The Corps will be proud to have him when he comes of age. OORAH!

  • Thanks! He loves to shoot, and he will shoot anything. Its funny, because this clip of him was taken about 2 years ago, he weighs about the same but he now 5-10! He's a weed! Thanks again, Ill pass it on!

  • what did u do with the front end of the barrel?! :O

  • It is a WWII era flash-suppresor.

  • I want looking for the carbine version,

  • @triggerhappylunatics

    old style flash hider/suppressor

    lucky 12 y/o.

im 18 and havent had the honor.

  • Very nice...did you restore it yourself or buy it restored?

  • my imagination or the m1 garand inspirated to do the m14?

  • The M14 was developed off of the M1.

  • yes it did

  • What are the chances of a canadian getting his hands on one of these?

  • They don't break any Canadian laws. If you can find one on sale, go for it. I'm buying the first one I see with a price tag on it.

  • wonder if u can still get these at the gun shops =/

  • What is the cone at the muzzle?

  • It is the WWII type flash suppressor.

  • the M1 Garand is good, but the M-14 is pretty much the same gun with a clip

  • I turn the boxes loud before the last shoot came.

    I love it.

  • Beautiful!

  • Do you mean the fire selector switch. No production m1 Garand has a selector switch. This rifle was used back in the day when soldiers only needed one round to get the job done.

  • This was my grandfathers gun during the war

  • m1 garand's PING sound... I love it.

  • It is said that the Germans and Japanese would wait to attack until they heard the ping so US soldiers would keep one with them to toss to make the sound.

  • I've *heard* this was easily countered by "pinging" an already empty en bloc clip. When the enemy heard the ping, they'd stick their heads out, and...well, you can imagine what happened then...

  • Yeah, prettty cool idea if you ask me.

  • you mean they would have one guy shoot off his last round while other guys had full clips. the m1 garand only made that sound from the clip being ejected from the gun

  • No, I didn't mean that. Read SamuraiBSD's response. THAT is what I mean. Soldiers tried not to let their gun's do it because it could/would get them killed because it let EVERYONE know they had no ammo.

  • No, what they'd do was take an empty clip and cycle it through the gun to make it sound like they'd just finished the mag, or they'd hit it against something like a rock to make the noise. The other guys then opened fire.

  • PIING!!!! I love it!

"The M1 Garand is the greatest battle implement ever devised"

    General George Patton.

  • I wish my dad had a gun permit. Either way, we wouldn't be able to find a beautiful rifle like an M1 Garand, even if we lived in the country it was made in.

  • Yea you could. I've seen ads for them in just about every gun catalog or whatever. But expect to pay a pretty penny for one. The cheapest one I've found was $1300 dollars with a couple boxes of original ammo. But you can find .30-06 bullets anywhere in the US.

  • Yeah, I live in Canada. But hey, at least they dont cost as much as a Thompson! Its quite cheap for such a reliable rifle.

  • You can find em in Canada, they're just rare. If you want something comparable thats easy to find, get a Norinco M14. You can find em for $400.

  • Please don't use regular 30-06 ammo in your Garand if you have one. Use the Greek surplus ammo, or handloads. Regular, off the shelf, 30-06 ammo will damage a Garand's operating rod if you shoot it much.

  • Nice, i wish i lived in the US..the gun laws here in ireland are a joke!! nice vid dow!
